Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) admitted Thursday that he had planned on spending longer than he did in Cancún, in a spur-of-the-moment trip his wife tried to recruit friends and neighbors to join that was motivated by Texas’ frigid temperatures, according to texts obtained by the New York Times, following widespread outrage over a vacation Cruz initially claimed was driven by his daughters and their friends. The senator’s wife, Heidi Cruz, tried to recruit friends for the trip on Wednesday and noted their house was “FREEZING,” the Times reported Thursday, citing texts obtained from a group chat. She proposed staying at...

Members of the Maine Republican Party state committee are condemning "in the strongest possible terms" Republican Sen. Susan Collins' vote to convict former President Donald Trump in his impeachment trial this month -- another sign of the backlash against lawmakers who bucked Trump, but one that may not have immediate impact given that Collins just won a fifth term."We vehemently disagree with your vote on this matter and condemn it in the strongest possible terms," members of the committee -- including the state party's chair and vice chair -- wrote in a letter to Collins posted to Facebook on Wednesday,...

The billionaire philanthropist offers four bold ideas to help business take on the climate crisis ---- [cut] It took me years to come to this point of view. I became interested in climate change not as an environmentalist, but as an advocate for global health and development. Since the early 2000s, my wife Melinda and I have been funding efforts to improve health and fight poverty in lower- and middle-income countries. A few times a year, I would travel abroad for the chance to see the work in action. Often, I’d fly into a country at night and be struck...

With millions of Texas residents suffering from the effects of a deadly winter storm, President Biden "took the day" off, Sean Hannity charged Thursday. "Where is our commander-in-chief?" asked the "Hannity" host. "You know, that new guy? Oh, that's right! This morning, he decided to take a snow day. The guy ultimately in charge of FEMA and all of the country's emergency resources and federal agences? Yeah, he took a day off in the middle of this natural disaster. Where's the feigned phony, selective liberal outrage on this? "To be fair," Hannity added later, "it's not even really totally clear...

Many, probably most, Texans hadn’t heard of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas until this week. Then a historic winter storm froze up the place and “electric reliability” turned into an unfunny joke for far too many. Their electricity was reliably unavailable. Texans are getting to know the 50-year-old council and are not liking what they’re learning. For one thing, about a third of its members don’t even live in Texas. Well, now that the glare has turned on ERCOT, it has removed the board members’ names from its website. They’re gone. They were all there earlier in the week....

The House of Delegates, after a long debate, passed a bill allowing families to use public money for private education costs. House Bill 2013 passed 60-39, which means a relatively large block of the House’s 77-member Republican majority voted against it. It now goes to the state Senate, where similar measures have received solid support from the Republican majority in recent years. The “Hope Scholarship” would be established through funds from the state Department of Education to pay for expenses like tuition, tutoring, fees for standardized tests or educational therapies. Joshua Higginbotham As originally conceived, the education savings accounts could...

Remember a few years ago when Trump suggested that if the left started tearing down historic statues that eventually they would come for people like Lincoln and Washington? Remember how people in the media scoffed at the idea? Well, here we are. This is happening, just as Trump predicted. The city of Chicago is reviewing statues which might ‘offend’ people and Lincoln and Washington are on the list. The Daily Wire reports:

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Montana Governor Greg Gianforte signed a constitutional carry bill into law Thursday afternoon. House Bill 102 allows Montana gun owners to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense throughout the state without written authorization from the government. Supporters say it creates a single standard for the state. The new law allows guns to be carried on university campuses and in the state Capitol. “Our Second Amendment-protected right to keep and bear arms is part of Montana’s, and our nation’s, rich heritage. We have a responsibility to preserve it,” Gianforte said. Montana is now one of nearly 20...

Yesterday some nobody, wannabe writer, social justice twit released a hit piece “expose” about how posters on Baen’s Bar ... However, this was clearly part of a coordinated attack in order to materially harm our business, because immediately after the hit piece was released complaints were filed with the various internet companies Baen uses for services to pressure them into kicking us off the internet. This hit piece was presented as “evidence”. Without going into details the companies then contacted Baen about these “serious allegations” so last night Baen temporarily took down the Bar forum to protect the rest of...

CNN host Chris Cuomo was mocked on Twitter for lambasting a Texas politician while his brother, Gov. Andrew Cuomo, faces calls to resign and impeachment inquiries after an exclusive Post report found his administration covered up thousands of nursing home COVID-19 deaths. In a Thursday morning tweet, the younger Cuomo posted an article about a Texas mayor who stepped down from office after calling his constituents “lazy” amid a massive power outage. Cuomo asked his followers: “Resign or apologize and learn and become a better leader?” Twitter users couldn’t help but wonder if the television anchor was actually talking about...

Sturm Ruger & Co. is staffing up in order to meet the “historic surge” in gun demand that has depleted its inventory. The Southport, Connecticut-based gun maker has hired 250 employees, mostly in production, since the middle of 2020 to help replenish its stocks as the surge in demand caused combined inventories in its warehouses and distributors to decrease by 86%, or 290,000 units, last year. Retailer inventory of Ruger also remains low. The hiring spree resulted in a 30% increase in production during the second half of 2020. Ruger is continuing its hiring spree today. “We are working hard...
