Seven people were shot in broad daylight near SEPTA’s Olney Transportation Station on Wednesday afternoon. Philadelphia Police say the shooting happened shortly before 3 p.m. at Broad Street and Olney Avenue. Six of the victims were taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center while the other was transported to Temple University Hospital by police. Their conditions are not known. A suspect was apprehended following a foot chase by police.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s lawyer has claimed the British socialite was physically abused at a federal prison on Brooklyn and punished for making a complaint. Bobbi Sternheim wrote in a letter to a Manhattan federal judge that the abuse occurred recently at the Metropolitan Detention Centre as Maxwell was undergoing a pat down search in her isolation cell. A 36-year-old shop owner in Oakland was arrested and charged Monday with felony assault after intervening in a robbery. KTVU reports that the man fired four gunshots after struggling in a fight with a robber, who knocked down a woman to steal a camera in her possession. The thief then escaped into a car. No one was hurt.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s (D) administration announced Tuesday it would create a commission to study “systemic racism” in foster care. The task force is a response to the “overrepresentation of children of color in the child protection system” which reflects a need for “fundamental system change.” According to a press release issued by MDHHS (Michigan Department of Health and Human Services), Black children make up 29% of the state’s foster care population, despite being only 16% of the state’s total population. The disparity is evident among children of other minority races as well.

Between 2014 and 2020, the number of children reported being exploited and sold by sex traffickers in France increased by 600 per cent, according to the country’s human trafficking agency.
