Reports from the Honduras-Guatemala border shows large groups of migrants illegally pushing past security personnel. Despite the threat of COVID-19, the migrants forced their way across the border. A tweet released by New York Times video correspondent Brent McDonald shows a “large caravan of Central American migrants fleeing pandemic-induced poverty” pushing their way past Guatemalan border security officials. He reports the group is heading to Mexico — presumably with an intended destination of the U.S. southern border. McDonald reported that Guatemalan border officials expect an additional 3,000 to attempt to enter from Honduras on Friday, raising the total two-day crossing...
  • Gov. Mike DeWine says Ohioans will wear masks for years, after new study finds just 1.5% of state had coronavirus antibodies in July

A study of Ohio adults found that 1.5% had antibodies to COVID-19 in July, when the state conducted a large study to try to estimate the prevalence of the illness. Statewide, that corresponds to about 133,000 Ohio adults. Antibodies are proteins developed in people who were previously infected with the coronavirus. Researchers also found that 0.9% of people had active coronavirus illnesses at that time. That corresponds statewide 80,000 people. The conclusion of the study made by Gov. Mike DeWine is that so few Ohioans are immune that the state’s residents will have to continue to wear masks, physically space...

Some churches refusing to join the Patriotic Church are repurposed by the state, while others are barred from activities in the name of “epidemic prevention.”As the expiration date for the Vatican-China deal of 2018 drew closer, local authorities across China intensified crackdowns on unregistered Catholics, ignoring the Vatican Guidelines of 2019 that ask to respect those who refuse to join the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association (CPCA) for reasons of conscience. Bitter Winter continuously receives reports about new cases of persecution. Nuns in Hebei ordered to return homeNuns in the Diocese of Xuanhua in the northern province of Hebei are repeatedly...

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in the middle of a remote MSNBC interview before the first presidential debate when a text box from Zoom Video Communications Inc. broke in: "Your meeting will end in 10 minutes."(snip) Clinton had been berating President Trump, declaring that his "series is about to be canceled," a reference to the real estate mogul and entertainer's star turn on "The Apprentice" franchise. However, as Mashable reported Tuesday, it seemed that neither the network nor Clinton had upgraded their Zoom accounts to receive unlimited meeting time. Those watching the program took to Twitter, joking that...

A common trick of the MSM used to be to ask one Republican if they would "denounce" what another Republican said, dishonestly representing what was actually said. Dim-witted virtue-signalling Republican clods would always take the bait, and bloviate some pompous comment that would become the news story. This is exactly what they are doing with the "failure to denounce white supremists" lie

On Monday, a challenge to Colorado's COVID-19 orders was filed. In a 98-page complaint, a religious conference center and affiliated Bible college claim that Colorado's limitation on the number of persons who can attend in-person religious services violates its 1st and 14th Amendment rights. The complaint (full text) in Andrew Wommack Ministries, Inc. v. Polis, (D CO, filed 9/28/2020), alleges unconstitutional discrimination between religious gatherings and non-religious gatherings, as well as between the Ministries' religious and nonreligious gatherings in the same facilities, giving examples such as: 178. Under the Governor’s Orders, AWMI’s volunteers may provide nonreligious counseling, social services, and...

Apparently the folks at Ancestry.com do not know how to program computers. I set up for a trial membership but after one hour of the membership, I 'stopped' the membership. Unfortunately, for some reason it did not de-activate my membership and I was charged. I followed the questions and I thought I succeeded in ending my membership. Unfortunately, computer bugs in the Ancestry.com website did not tell me that I had completed the de-activation of membership process. I noticed a charge for Ancestry.com today (since it is the 1st of the month). I tried de-activating the membership a second time...
  • Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh Raises Attendance Limits at Mass to 50% Capacity

PITTSBURGH —The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh said parishes will be allowed to increase attendance at Mass to 50% capacity, starting this weekend. "I actually wanted to do it a little bit earlier, but I wanted to wait to see how things were going to fare following the opening of schools," Bishop David Zubik said Wednesday. He added, "I think people are eager to be able to get back to church." Parishioners say the decision to increase capacity is significant, easing a mental and emotional burden. Many have expressed a sense of isolation and even loneliness under the weight of the...

A security check on a US company has reportedly revealed one of its staff was outsourcing his work to China. The software developer, in his 40s, is thought to have spent his workdays surfing the web, watching cat videos on YouTube and browsing Reddit and eBay. He reportedly paid just a fifth of his six-figure salary to a company based in Shenyang to do his job. Operator Verizon says the scam came to light after the US firm asked it for an audit, suspecting a security breach. According to Andrew Valentine, of Verizon, the infrastructure company requested the operator's risk...

Last night Joe Biden stayed in a Cleveland hotel - his first sleepover in over six months, since March, when he took to his basement in Delaware. The great thing about the Biden campaign is that it doesn't require Biden to campaign. Here's yours truly two days ago on the fake-speech format of his ad blitz: If you're just the casual semi-engaged "low-information voter" (as Rush used to say), your impression is of Joe giving speeches, tirelessly, night after night, in between Jeopardy and Ellen and Entertainment Tonight. You could CGI in the rear end of Harry Truman's railroad car...

Border industry is poised for explosive growth in the next few years, as companies take heed of lessons learned in the COVID-19 pandemic and relocate more production to North America, trade experts say. Many U.S. manufacturers who get supplies from China experienced delays during the pandemic, which added to brewing concerns over already tense trade relations between both countries. “We have a huge number of U.S. companies doing business with China. […] Any number of consumer goods come from China but all those companies are coming under the realization that there is trade tensions that are going to continue regardless...

The first presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump reflected the state of America in 2020. Chaotic, confusing and hopelessly divided. Past debates, while heated, contained at least a moment of congeniality and even humor. Who could forget when Ronald Reagan, fending off charges that he was too old to be president, grinned and stated that he would not hold his opponent Walter Mondale’s “youth and inexperience” against him. Mondale could be seen chuckling at Reagan’s deft handling of the pin-prick attack. Compare that with Biden’s vicious accusations against the President of the United States – calling him a...

Explanation: As telescopes around planet Earth watch, Mars is growing brighter in night skies, approaching its 2020 opposition on October 13. Mars looks like it's watching too in this view of the Red Planet from September 22. Mars' disk is already near its maximum apparent size for earthbound telescopes, less than 1/80th the apparent diameter of a Full Moon. The seasonally shrinking south polar cap is at the bottom and hazy northern clouds are at the top. A circular, dark albedo feature, Solis Lacus (Lake of the Sun), is just below and left of disk center. Surrounded by a light...

OSIRIS-REx — an international sample-return mission led by NASA and joined by science team members from Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy, and with an instrument provided through the Canadian Space Agency — is less than one month away from performing a Touch-And-Go sample collection maneuver to return portions of asteroid Bennu to Earth. Meanwhile, science teams have observed regular material shedding activity from the near Earth object — an unexpected find that allows scientists to better understand the dynamic little worlds littered throughout the inner solar system.
