On August 8th, 1885, New York City hosted the longest funeral procession in history for General U.S. Grant. Grant had died two weeks earlier at Grant Cottage near Saratoga Springs, NY after completing his memoirs. The photos are mostly from a rare commemorative book published shortly after the funeral. Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend’s daughter and grandson are missing after authorities say they were seen struggling to return to shore in a canoe near Herring Bay, a family member confirmed Friday. The University of Pennsylvania’s medical school is set to perform clinical trials to see if a drug used to treat arthritis and malaria can also treat COVID-19. The Perelman School of Medicine is enrolling patients to study if hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) can treat already infected people or help prevent infection altogether. On Saturday the Food and Drug Administration approved the use of two antimalarial drugs, hydroxychloroquine and a related medication, chloroquine, for emergency use to treat COVID-19. The drugs were touted by President Trump as a “game changer” for COVID-19. However, a study just published in a French medical journal provides new evidence that hydroxychloroquine does not appear to help the immune system clear the coronavirus from the body. Six immigrant detainees who have underlying health issues that make them more vulnerable to coronavirus were ordered released by a federal judge Thursday, April 2, from the Adelanto ICE Processing Center in San Bernardino County.
