Breakthrough? Scientists Say They've Developed a Wuhan Coronavirus Vaccine That Can Be Rapidly Deployed
Townhall.com ^ | April 3, 2020 | Matt Vespa

Right now, we’re on defense concerning fighting the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak. It’s a time for stacking sandbags and hunkering down by social distancing, washing hands constantly, and avoiding touching one’s face.

This is the way…for the time being.

Until we have some treatments that are ready to be mass deployed, such as hydroxychloroquine, which is reported to be effective, then that would be a key stopgap measure until we have a proper vaccine. As of yesterday, and the numbers are definitely higher today, the U.S. has over 230,000 Wuhan viral infections, with over 5,700 dying from it. It’s a serious disease. It’s highly contagious. And no one is immune. The young have a much greater shot at recovery if infected, but that does not mean they cannot get sick or die from the Wuhan virus. Many already have experienced the former, and tragically, some have the latter. The immunocompromised and the elderly remain, as with any viral infection, the group that is a great risk of death if they contract this disease.

This virus can live on some surfaces for up to three days, which is why staying at home is key.

So, when will we have a vaccine? Johnson & Johnson said it hopes to start testing for one in September, but a year to a year-and-a-half appears to be the timeframe. Yet, at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, scientists say they may have found one already. What’s more, is that their findings show their supposed treatment can be rolled out rapidly to reduce the spread of the virus. The delivery system is not one injection, but in a fingertip-sized patch containing 400 “microneedles” (via NY Post):

The researchers announced their findings Thursday and believe the vaccine could be rolled out quickly enough to “significantly impact the spread of disease,” according to their study published in EBioMedicine.

The vaccine would be delivered on a small, fingertip-sized patch. When tested on mice, the vaccine produced enough antibodies believed to successfully counteract the virus.

[…]

“These two viruses, which are closely related to SARS-CoV-2, teach us that a particular protein, called a spike protein, is important for inducing immunity against the virus,” read a statement from co-senior author Andrea Gambotto, M.D., associate professor of surgery at the Pitt School of Medicine.

“We knew exactly where to fight this new virus.”

[…]

Researchers said they sided with using a patch, rather than a traditional needle, to deliver the spike protein to the skin, which elicits the strongest immune reaction.

The patch contains 400 tiny “microneedles” made of sugar and protein pieces. It would be applied like a Band-Aid with the needles dissolving into the skin.

The vaccine would be “highly scalable” for widespread use, the researchers said in a news release.

Is this the gamechanger we’ve been looking for? We’ll see.

They can try it on me if they want.

I’ll volunteer.

Has to be tested for 6 months at least....but is that enough?? That would be before human testing which could be years away.

Fauci screwed around with Ebola just like he is doing with this.

Game changer?

Not if the democrats have any say in it. They want our economy destroyed so they can set up their fantasy of a communist utopia. Just listen to what they’re saying and read between the lines.

so, how do they know whether their vaccine is safe AND effective?

there’s a fairly large number of these vaccines that have been made around the world, but no one has made one has tested it enough to know whether it’s safe, and just as importantly, whether it works ... just look at the 2019-2020 influenza vaccine which totally missed the boat ...

If this is based on the SARS anti viral, it has not worked yet. Apparently, the COVID is much more “sticky’ in getting on and in a cell than the SARS virus is.

Tracker chip?

I dunno, they can track me from my bedroom, to the bathroom, to the kitchen, to the media room, to the backyard, then back to bed if they really want to.

My world has gotten really tiny here lately. I don’t think they would at much risk of losing me.

If they don’t hurry the heck up, they can plan on giving it to us in the 6 foot evenly spaced soup lines we’ll all be standing in.

Crossing my fingers and hoping for a fast treatment.

This is a rehash of other reports with the same players on the same subject occurring in the past week. This is Fauci's real home field.

[[What’s more, is that their findings show their supposed treatment can be rolled out rapidly to reduce the spread of the virus.]]

What does ‘rapidly’ mean?

If it gets approved tomorrow- expect cuomo, Michigan, nevada, and other states to issue an EOs like the following

Executive Order- effective immediately:

No pharmacist shall dispense 400 tiny “microneedle” patches or any amount of microneedle patches except when written as prescribed for an FDA-approved indication; or as part of a state approved clinical trial related to COVID-19 for a patient who has tested positive for COVID-19, with such test result documented as part of the prescription. No other experimental or prophylactic use shall be permitted, and any permitted prescription is limited to one fourteen day prescription with no refills.

SARS-COV-2 is the virus.

Covid-19 is the disease the virus causes.

The disease is pneumonia where the lung cells and avioli fill up with fluid. Patients die from not being able to breathe,, in effect drowning.

So Covid is the disease, it doesn’t ‘stick’.

The SARS-COV-2 sticks to a pneumocyte receptor causing fluid to form (a cytokine response).

They’ve tested it on mice.......
.............
Viral vaccines need lots of human testing, that takes time. Then drug companies have to figure out how to make it in mass quantities and how to distribute and administer it.
............
My Mother was the first public health nurse in Alaska to vaccinate for polio. She took the vaccine first.
................
She caught polio from the vaccine. A mild case and survived, but was partially crippled for the rest of her life.
................
Any speeding up, will have its risks. The government would have to indemnify any drug company cutting corners. And, warn of the side effects that would only be discovered after the rolling out quickly.
