CTH is spending time on this issue because the food distribution sector is the most important sector in all commerce. Having some familiarity with the supply chain might help people to understand the challenges; and possibly help you locate product. The Inversion – Big chain markets; those who spent millions developing their own proprietary ‘just-in-time’ distribution networks and automated ordering systems; are currently the least equipped to deal with the level of demand. Meanwhile smaller chains, or mom-and-pops, who rely on third-party brokered distribution are faster to respond.Several factors have increased retail market demand for food products and non-perishables. People stocking...

Democrat presidential hopeful Joe Biden picked a Secret Service protective detail this week, which means he is now safe-guarded with some of the very guns he is fighting to prohibit the common man from possessing. NBC News reports the Secret Service detail was assigned to Biden after his campaign filed a request for one “to senior congressional officials.” A source told Breitbart News such a detail will see Biden protected with pistols, semiautomatic rifles–perhaps ARs and/or Sig Sauer MCX platform firearms–and there is the strong possibility of fully automatic firearms being part of the equation too. The latter consist of submachine guns...

Do Electric Vehicles really give off zero emissions? While Electric Vehicles (EVs) do not emit CO2 like traditional combustion engine cars, they actually do still have particulate emissions which pose a substantial threat to clean air. Batteries required to power cars with no assistance from a traditional engine are quite heavy and place a much larger burden on tires than traditional cars. As the EVs rack up miles, particulates from tires, break dust, and re-agitated roadway pollutants are all mixed into the environment, creating potentially harmful air quality. As the increased workload on braking systems of EVs became a known...

The NCAA should attempt the difficult task of conducting its basketball tournaments in empty arenas. We need the positive energy of March Madness to offset the negative energy connected to the COVID-19 virus. March Madness can provide something to cheer about. The entertainment industry has a long history of entertaining military troops on the front lines to help the morale of the troops. Television has made it possible for troops on the front lines of distant battle fields to watch major entertainment events like the Super Bowl. .We are all "troops" on a battle field a killer virus has invaded....

NASA unsticks its Martian digging probe by whacking it with a shovel. ______________________________________________________________________ The robotic scoop-arm pins “the mole” against the side of its hole in an attempt to get it moving.NASA/JPL-Caltech ___________________________________________________________________ Every day, the InSight lander’s suite of instruments sends back data proving that the Red Planet isn’t really dead. Marsquakes rumble the seismometer. Swirling vortices register on onboard pressure sensor. And temperature sensors help track the weather and changing of the seasons. Despite the lander’s successes, however, one gauge has met with resistance from the Martian environment while trying to carry out its mission. Something has stopped...

[Catholic Caucus] Starved of the Sacraments Pope Francis' 'field hospital' Church is bankrupt ROME (ChurchMilitant.com) - The Church is in "full retreat" by suspending Masses, "a fact that had never occurred, not even during the two world wars, even in the most terrible hours in the history of this country, on the occasion of disasters, floods or earthquakes." That's the view of illustrious Italian epidemiologist Dr. Paolo Gulisano, a professor of History of Medicine at the Bicocca State University of Milan. Gulisano is also a celebrated cultural essayist. He is ripping to shreds "one of the most famous slogans of the current pontificate," which is the Church as...

The Senate is on track to clear a multi-billion-dollar aid package Wednesday afternoon to help those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic by providing paid sick leave, free diagnostic testing and expanded food aid. The measure is the second of several packages Congress plans to pass to help bolster the health care sector and reduce the impact of a virus that has brought wide swaths of the economy to a halt. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Wednesday morning that he would vote for the legislation, despite his frustration with some of its elements. “It is a well-intentioned, bipartisan product...

We know the numerator, but not the denominator.” — Leading medical researcher, name withheld, discussing the statistical effect of the coronavirus 2019 One of the most difficult problems in assessing the current coronavirus 2019 (hereinafter COVID-19) pandemic is sorting through the conflicting expert opinions and the evolving statistical data that have — with an enormous assist by the mainstream media — plunged our nation into a state of panic and paralysis. How did we get here? And just how serious is the threat posed by COVID-19? I’m neither a doctor nor an epidemiologist. But as a prosecutor and trial lawyer,...

Federal and state governments are making a massive gamble about a little-understood new virus. They are betting our future on the most extreme worst-case scenario without considering the costs. Federal and state governments are making a massive gamble about a little-understood new virus. They may not only be betting our entire economy, but our nation’s future. Thus it’s imperative that they not make foolish choices. We shouldn’t allow policy under a Republican president to be driven by a Democrat like Steve Mnuchin, whose overwhelming priority is reassuring Wall Street above all else. Voters don’t vote for Donald Trump to get...

Earlier today, I posted several charts showing coronavirus fatalities in various countries in several formats. Many think that per capita mortality rates are the most relevant metric; our friend Brian Sullivan, who runs a highly sophisticated biomedical company, emailed us today with these comments: Another worthwhile analysis would consider the common sense observation that the US, South Korea, and Europe had their first cases at roughly the same time. Therefore, I think it is informative to compare the per capita number of cases and deaths in Europe and South Korea to those in the US. I created the table below...

The Coronavirus market crash is doing the unspeakable: Turning major stocks into pennies. Hope you sold like the pros told you to. All told, 18 stocks in the broad S&P 1500, including consumer discretionary J.C. Penney (JCP), energy firms like Denbury Resources (DNR) and real estate firm CBL & Associates (CBL), are now trading for less than a buck. The S&P 1500 is a collection of small stocks in the S&P 600, midsize S&P 400 and large S&P 500 companies. All the S&P 1500 trading for less than $1 were admittedly damaged goods ahead of the coronavirus market crash. Even...
