The Senate is on track to clear a multi-billion-dollar aid package Wednesday afternoon to help those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic by providing paid sick leave, free diagnostic testing and expanded food aid.
The measure is the second of several packages Congress plans to pass to help bolster the health care sector and reduce the impact of a virus that has brought wide swaths of the economy to a halt.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Wednesday morning that he would vote for the legislation, despite his frustration with some of its elements.
It is a well-intentioned, bipartisan product assembled by House Democrats and President [Donald] Trump's team that tries to stand up and expand some new relief measures for American workers, McConnell said. In this case, I do not believe we should let perfection be the enemy of something that will help even a subset of workers. However, the House bill has real shortcomings. It does not even begin to cover all of the Americans who will need help in the days ahead.
McConnell reiterated he plans to keep the Senate in session, possibly during weekends, to draft and pass a third package to combat the health care and economic impacts of the pandemic.

If this virus shuts down Planned Parenthood for a while it will save more lives than it will take.
I want my $1,000 bucks! And I want my wife’s $1,000 bucks!
Hopefully the cure won’t be worse than the disease.
Didnt think of that. This might actually save some babies.
Yes. By far
Does this money only go to people who are employed or does this extend to disabled and or retired folks?
I heard it was based on income. I live with my daughter and do not work so if she claims me and makes $50k, I wonder if I would qualify for a check?
This is going to be a headache for those having to do the paperwork and cut checks.
I think it should be done direct deposit but who knows, maybe that will be a choice.
Im more thrilled that I get to wait three months to write that check to the IRS. Thats great news. I know I still have to submit but its nice to delay payment.
Hopefully.
Our criminal electric company just slammed us with a $1400 bill and we don’t have it.
Ever since they installed a “smart meter” without asking permission, our bills have been insane.
Its 250 billion which is close to every adult. I think you both will get a thousand.
And the hits just keep coming.
How the heck do you have an $1,400 electric bill? Mansion?
Every little bit helps.
I did notice the gas meter at our new house here in TX wasn't measuring correctly. They weren't performing manual reads of the meter, and they weren't using estimated values, so they had to be getting the meter reads from somewhere. It appears they were doing a wireless/satellite read of someone else's meter and applying it to our address. Once that was figured out, the meter reads on the bill were consistent.
Dow just crashed falling 1300 points!
those “smart” meters are just a way they can lower our thermostat whenever they want.....I feel more and more like a mouse in maze.....
Not even.
300 year old log house.
We’re already sitting around in the dark and the cold trying to lower the bills.
I don’t even own enough stuff to plug in and run 24/7 to justify the amounts they charge us.
We’ve had “issues” ever since the electric company installed a pole with a transformer on it in our lane to supply electricity to a guy’s cabin above us.
We have complained and begged them to come find out where the “leak” is coming from but they just say “everything is fine”
The old analog meter still spun even if we threw the main circuit breaker, shutting ALL the electric off.
So they replaced it with a smart meter and now we’re really screed.

Translation: The American people are gonna take it in the shorts again.
Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters. -- Daniel Webster
