Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said cases in 30 or more states were linked to cases in Europe. During a House Oversight Committee hearing Thursday discussing the coronavirus response, Redfield said the "real risk in general right now, and this is why the President took the action he did last night, within the world now, over 70% of the new cases are linked to Europe. In the United States … 30 states or more were linked actually to cases in Europe." Redfield reiterated, “Europe is the new China.” Dr. Anthony Fauci, director...

U.S.—Parents across the nation have expressed their worry, fear, and shock at having to raise their own children now that government schools have temporarily shut down. Those who send their children to public schools registered their displeasure at the government for not doing its main job of indoctrinating their children, even temporarily. "Raise, educate, and parent my children?" said one exasperated mother as her teen sat at home, bored and with nothing to do. "But that's the government's job! What am I supposed to do? Teach them things? Instill them with my values? Train them up in the way that...

...Bernie is a poor debater. Not as much as Biden, but close enough. All he can do is respond to every question with an angry rant about corporations and medical care. That's not going to win anything. After Biden's victory speech, it's clear that the current brains behind his campaign have been able to get him to memorize his own speeches and deliver them in an angry tone that passes for energy...

Ron “Johnson initially wanted to subpoena Andrii Telizhenko, a former Ukrainian embassy official who served as a Blue Star consultant from 2016 to 2017. Peters, the RANKING DEMOCRAT, opposed the subpoena, saying that Telizhenko was spreading disinformation about the Bidens, possible in aid of Russia. Telizhenko began working last year with Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who has accused Joe Biden of pressuring the Ukrainian government to help Burisma.”

The King, Pierce, and Thurston County schools are going to be closed until at least April 4th. So Seattle announced that they are also closing all the City libraries. So how will the students access books while they are home-schooling during that period?

I’ve been ruminating on the promises that the Census Bureau incessantly makes regarding data security; that our information is “protected by law.” Well, I’m not impressed. The Bureau says that strict fines and penalties are in place for divulging data illegally (what and the magnitude of those fines and penalties are is never revealed.) Regardless, fines and penalties, even up to incarceration are not enough to “protect us by law” from theft, burglaries, rape and murder. Once those crimes are committed against us, they can never be UNcommitted by ANY action of law. So, our information is leaked, the responsible...

Court ruling came on eve of court appearance scheduled in WikiLeaks case. The appearance has been called off. ederal judge on Thursday ordered Chelsea Manning to be released from jail, concluding Manning's testimony in a WikiLeaks related case is no longer required. The decision by U.S. District Judge Anthony J, Trenga in Alexandria, Va., came after Manning attempted suicide earlier this week. "Ms. Manning’s appearance before the grand jury is no longer needed,” Trenga wrote. “Her detention no longer serves any coercive purpose." The former U.S. Army intelligence analyst on Wednesday attempted suicide in jail as Manning waited to be...

Is it the campaign that’s not up to the challenge posed by Trump or is it the candidate? Is it the campaign that was responsible for underwhelming fundraising or was it the candidate? Was it the campaign that flopped in Iowa and New Hampshire or was it the candidate? I think the answer to all three questions is “the candidate.” Biden’s comeback, though no doubt aided by the quality of his opposition, looks like a case of making something out of almost nothing. Even so, it’s possible that the campaign needed someone new to run it. There’s no way that...

Obviously, the coronavirus story changes by the moment. But here is a snapshot in time of coronavirus deaths, as reported by CDC and in news reports. The majority of U.S. deaths to date (31 of 40) have occurred among the elderly, sick in Washington State nursing homes or long term care facilities. A majority of the Washington State deaths (27 of 31) occurred in King County. A majority of the King County deaths in Washington State (22 of 31) occurred at the same elderly nursing facility in Kirkland. This large cluster in one facility is under investigation. There have also...

The COVID-19 outbreak is giving new meaning to those “sustainable” shopping bags that politicians and environmentalists have been so eager to impose on the public. These reusable tote bags can sustain the COVID-19 and flu viruses—and spread the viruses throughout the store. Researchers have been warning for years about the risks of these bags spreading deadly viral and bacterial diseases, but public officials have ignored their concerns, determined to eliminate single-use bags and other plastic products despite their obvious advantages in reducing the spread of pathogens. In New York State, a new law took effect this month banning single-use plastic...

One of the key questions pertaining to the Wuhan cororavirus is whether warm weather will stop the pandemic. President Trump has suggested that it will. He says “a lot of people think that [the virus] goes away in April with the heat — as the heat comes in” and that “there’s a theory that, in April, when it gets warm — historically, that has been able to kill the virus.” Actually, this particular virus is new, so that, strictly speaking, there is no history to rely on. As with so much surrounding the Wuhan coronavirus, we don’t know really know...

Former Vice President Joe Biden will hold “virtual” town hall and rally events, his campaign told reporters late Wednesday, in lieu of holding massive rallies in places like Florida and Illinois. The campaign cited ongoing concerns about coronavirus, particularly in Illinois, which has at least 25 confirmed cases of the illness. Biden had events scheduled in Chicago and Orlando but “his campaign said that after consulting with officials, the former vice president would not hold large-scale events in the states,” according to MSN. He also canceled two fundraisers in Chicago The wave of fear over coronavirus may come as a...

US County level info was extremely useful and important. It looks like since 3/10, county level info has been removed. The ArcGis JHU map no longer shows county level numbers. Please bring it back. This seems to be the data set after which this change started happening: 82e1397#diff-eb3e961500680278537f38c751212d2e cscollett commented 1 hour ago • Yes, it sounds like they were having some issues with the county data lagging the state data or some places not reporting by county at all. Having both was also resulting in double counting if people didn't programmatically divide the by-state and by-county data, and aggregate...

Has anyone heard whether the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) is going to take place this year in college basketball? This could be an amazing opportunity for the NIT--getting the 20 or 30 (I'm not sure of the number) BEST teams in college basketball, and it would be a warning shot to all the sports establishment. We can still have a 2019-2020 national championship.

(MRC-TV) Amid mass panic over the seemingly inevitable coronavirus outbreak sweeping the country, some in the abortion industry are using the widespread alarm to tout the importance of…abortion. Why? Well, that’s unclear, given that abortion has nothing at all to do with the coronavirus. Even still, several abortionists and abortion advocates have taken to Twitter to stump for the public’s “right” to access abortion pills via telemedicine (i.e., an online consultation without having to physically see a doctor). Dr. Dustin Costescu, an OBGYN, associate professor and “sexual medicine specialist” at McMaster University, tweeted that “self-managed abortion is safe” and “avoids...

Anyone craving sports will find the replay of today's first round of The Players Championship on Golf Channel. There were actual spectators on the course today, but the plan is no spectators tomorrow, Saturday, or Sunday. So if one of the guys hits a hole-in-one, he will hear not the roar of the crowd but his caddy, his playing partner, and his playing partner's caddy saying, "Good shot, dude." Still, props to the PGA for going on with the show. I can see postponing events at indoor arenas where people are in close quarters, but suspending outdoor events in the...

WASHINGTON—U.S. Small businesses hurt by the COVID-19 outbreak will be able to receive up to $2 million in disaster assistance loans as part of the economic relief package offered by President Donald Trump. In his address to the nation on Mar. 11, Trump said he instructed the Small Business Administration (SBA), a government agency, to “provide capital and liquidity to firms affected by the coronavirus.” He called on Congress to increase funding for the SBA program by an additional $50 billion.
