New York Post ^ | February 7, 2020 | Sam Raskin and Gabrielle Fonrouge
... Mayor Bill de Blasio linked a recent crime surge in the Big Apple to the state’s controversial overhaul of bail laws Friday, after spending a week dancing around the matter. “We had, for six years, steady decreases in crime across the board. There’s not a whole lot of other environmental things that have changed recently,” Hizzoner told WNYC’s Brian Lehrer on new CompStat data that shows crime has soared since the new laws took effect at the start of 2020. “It sort of stands out like a sore thumb that this is the single biggest new thing in the...

  • Dear FRiends, We need your help to keep this FReepathon moving. [Thread XXXIX]

Here's hoping 2020 is the best year yet!! Now that he has been forever acquitted, President Trump should put the failed partisan impeachment attempt behind him, then concentrate on winning the 2020 election with wide coattails. Then bide his time as the cases against the various coup plotters wind their way through the justice system. Highest priority political items: Win the election, hold the senate, take back the house!! And then continue the work of making America great again: Build the wall, enforce the law, deport them all!! End DACA!! End sanctuary cities!! End anchor babies!! Continue cutting regulations, cutting...

On Friday the Virginia state House committee passed a bill that would ban the sale of certain semi-automatic firearms, including the popular AR-15 style rifles. The bill is named “H.B. 961” and would also ban silencers and magazines that hold more than 12 rounds. It was passed out of the House Public Safety Committee by a vote of 12-9. The bill, which has the support of Virginia Gov. Ralph “Blackface” Northam will now make its way to the Democratic-controlled House of Delegates. Pro-Second Amendment patriots packed the committee room for the vote, and when it passed, the crowd went ballistic...

The current presidency has been one of the biggest political roller coasters of modern times. Terms like “emoluments” that have not been bandied about in several hundreds of years have become verbatim. Seldom is there a time when the cover story in any major news media does not involve President Trump. While calls for impeachment have ebbed and flowed since Trump took office, they appear to have grown in tenor in recent weeks since a whistleblower described Trump’s interaction with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attempting to direct the Ukrainians to investigate political rival Joe Biden’s son, Hunter’s role working with...
  • Bernie Sanders in 1972: 'I don't mind people calling me a communist'

    02/08/2020 9:36:23 AM PST · by bryan999 · 12 replies
President Trump's recent jab at Bernie Sanders, calling him "a communist," was meant as an insult. But the 2020 Democratic front-runner and Vermont senator might not have taken it that way. In 1972, Sanders, then a gubernatorial protest candidate for the socialist Liberty Union Party, visited an alternative high school in Rutland, Vermont, to give his campaign pitch. During a question-and-answer session, Sanders, then 31, brushed off accusations of being a left-wing radical. "I don't mind people coming up and calling me a communist," Sanders said. "At least, they're still alive." On the night of the Super Bowl, Trump said...

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham claimed a slew of networks declined to book a White House official for Sunday programming after a good news week for President Trump. Grisham, in a Friday night appearance on Hannity, acknowledged the White House will not get much airtime to discuss the State of the Union address, the president getting acquitted in the Senate impeachment trial, and a strong jobs report. "I have got to tell you there is not going to be one White House official on any of the Sunday shows this weekend. Only Fox Business is taking a White House...
  • Pete Buttigieg: Religious conservatives making a 'deal with the devil' for federal judiciary

    The Washington Times ^ | Saturday, February 8, 2020 | David Sherfinski
CONCORD, N.H. — Former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg on Saturday said religious conservatives are making a “deal with the devil” so the federal judiciary can be stacked with nominees from a Republican president. “Does anybody really think that religious conservatives view Donald Trump as a religious [figure]?” Mr. Buttigieg said. “They’re riding a tiger, they’re making a deal with the devil knowing that they can get certain objectives met on the bench.” Mr. Buttigieg and other 2020 Democratic presidential contenders were appearing Saturday morning at a forum on the judiciary hosted by several liberal advocacy groups at a community...

During MSNBC’s Friday night post-debate coverage, Hardball host Chris Matthews behaved like a man possessed, hellbent on informing all about the deadly dangers posed by communism and socialism, how concerns during the Cold War were real, and Bernie Sanders might not be looking to just remake America into a socialist country a la Denmark. Something was up early on in the show as he praised Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) for having “had guts to talk about the issue of this campaign,” which “is that word socialism” as “some people” and “younger people like it,” but socialism wasn’t exactly what they...

After facing discrimination in the UK because of his biblical beliefs, a spokesman for Franklin Graham tells CBN News they have decided to fight in court for their religious rights there. "Since the original venues have broken our legal contract with them, we are pursuing appropriate actions based on grounds of religious discrimination and freedom of speech. The Gospel always faces opposition, so we will prayerfully and boldly continue to press forward so that the Good News of God's love and forgiveness will be proclaimed in all of the cities we have planned to visit," the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association...

We have a healthy baby! I asked you all to pray several weeks ago for a young woman in preterm trouble. She was loosing the baby. She's been in the hospital all this time, in bed and having to have almost daily tests to see what was happening with the baby. Well, they did a c-section today, baby is out and doing well. She weighs 3.1#, 16 inches and they've already lowered the oxygen. This young couple lost their first baby due to the same problem but that time they nearly lost the mother. Oh, and she's 34 weeks gestation....

The grueling debate Friday night on ABC was actually sad for the seven debaters, with the exception of Andrew Yang, for they all are panderers of the first order. They all say only what they think their potential supporters want to hear. There are few core beliefs among them. They all seem either ignorant or in serious denial of the countless successes of the Trump administration because they all simply deny them. They are each depending, as usual, on the conviction that all Americans are very stupid and unable to discern between the truth and their lies meant to terrorize...

... During the 2018-19 school year, 107 bias and hate complaints were filed at UW-Madison, each of which I retrieved through a freedom of information request. While the information identifying students and professors was redacted, the breadth and scope of what campus community members are willing to report one another for is revealing. UW-Madison isn’t alone—In 2017, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education found 232 American schools with Bias Response Teams. This number is almost certainly outdated—in 2020, it is difficult to find any major public university that doesn’t have some sort of reporting structure, whether they call it...

There was neither a soaring nor shattering moment for the Democratic presidential candidates at their debate on Friday night, but it was still the most contentious one yet ... Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. questioned the long-term viability of the candidacies of Senator Bernie Sanders and former Mayor Pete Buttigieg, the two victors in the Iowa caucuses. Mr. Buttigieg swiped at his opponents as Washington insiders. Mr. Sanders cast Mr. Buttigieg as the candidate of the billionaire class. Senator Elizabeth Warren hit others on how they were financing their campaigns. And Senator Amy Klobuchar swung both at Mr....

Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey took so much offense to the harsh words that President Donald Trump spoke about him during the acquittal press conference Thursday that he published an angry op-ed in The Washington Post the following afternoon. . . . In Comey’s opinion, the decision by the “herd” of Trump supporters, as he described them, to not “get up and walk out” as the president bashed him and the slew of other disgraced former Obama-era Justice Department operatives who’d allegedly plotted against him was the result of the so-called herd being “brainless” (his words).

Chasten Buttigieg, the husband of South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, currently refers to himself as the First Gentleman when he discusses what he will do if husband Pete becomes president of the United States. So you think your vote doesn’t matter this year, eh? You think that because we have been so polarized by politics that you’re going to use your vote as a “silent protest” and not vote for anyone, is that it? You listen and you listen good, your vote matters more this year than at any time since our nation was first founded. Waste it at the...
  • Ideas/Advice: Selling and Building a New House

My wife and I are considering selling our existing home and building a new home. Our approach is to sell the house, rent a furnished house/apartment (we have a yellow lab) while the house is being built. We don't want to worry about having two houses. My question is, what did you do to minimize the amount of moving? Store furniture in PODs? Store semi-trailer? What tips do you have? What would you do differently? Anyone sell & build at the same time? Did you use a realtor who'd purchase your house if it didn't sell after XX numbers of...

At least eight people have died and dozens have been injured in reported ethnic clashes in Kazakhstan. About 30 houses and 15 commercial properties were destroyed during the clash in Masanchi village on Friday. Ethnic Kazakhs clashed with members of the Dungan minority group and Hui Muslims, a group that migrated from China in the 19th Century, reports say. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said the area was "under the control" of the police and national guard. Fighting occurred in a number of settlements in the Kordai district between local residents, Mr Tokayev said at a press conference. Police arrested 47 people....
