The Coast Guard is searching for a 26-year-old man who was reported overboard from a Carnival cruise ship Thursday evening. The Carnival Dream departed Galveston, Texas, Thursday on a four-day cruise when the guest went overboard, Carnival said in a statement to CNN. "Based on camera footage, it appears the guest jumped from his stateroom balcony," the statement said. Command on the ship began search and rescue procedures immediately. A report came into the Coast Guard around 8:45 p.m. at night, when the ship was about 47 miles southeast of Galveston, the Coast Guard said. An urgent marine information broadcast...

A friend of the Elijah Cummings left Mitch McConnell stunned by refusing to shake the Senate Majority Leader's hand at the late congressman's memorial service in the Capitol. Footage of the moment, which has been viewed 2.1 million times since it was uploaded to Twitter on Thursday, shows Bobby Rankin shaking hands with a number of lawmakers. Rankin is one of the men listed as a pallbearer for Cummings's funeral on Friday. In the video, Rankin hugs House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) before shaking the hands of House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), House Minority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA)...

Women who lived during the Protestant Reformation can give us a unique perspective on the Christian life. They didn’t teach from pulpits, but they did teach from printing presses, throne rooms, and hospitable homes. Here are five things we can learn from these mothers in the faith. 1. The Power of Jesus In a German convent, Katharina von Bora read a rebel monk’s writings on justification by faith alone. At some point, the gospel brought her from death to life. The rest of her life produced service to her husband (Martin Luther), children, church, and Lord. We’re so used to...

Morning "For the truths sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us forever." 2 John 2 Once let the truth of God obtain an entrance into the human heart and subdue the whole man unto itself, no power human or infernal can dislodge it. We entertain it not as a guest but as the master of the house--this is a Christian necessity, he is no Christian who doth not thus believe. Those who feel the vital power of the gospel, and know the might of the Holy Ghost as he opens, applies, and seals the Lord's Word, would...
  • Huge swath of California could go dark with widest power outages yet expected this weekend

This weekend’s planned power outages could be the largest yet in California, as utilities such as Pacific Gas & Electric and Southern California Edison order wide blackouts to prevent more blazes — and more wildfire liability — amid heavy, hot winds. PG&E, which has 5.4 million electric customers and provides power to 16 million Californians, was projecting Thursday that it could shut off power across nearly all of its territory in Northern California on Sunday and Monday because of ferocious gusts. “This system will likely be the strongest event of the year from a wind perspective,” the utility said on...

If your first thought watching the footage of the sparring komodo dragons was something like, "the new Godzilla looks great," we don't blame you. The massive lizards—which can grow up to 10 feet in length and weigh 300+ pounds—admittedly kind of look like the fabled kaiju. Komodo dragons, which are native to Indonesia, are the largest known lizard in existence today and is referred to as "ora," meaning 'land crocodile' by local Indonesians, according to Live Science. Komodos are generally solitary animals and highly territorial, and when they get up on their hind legs and start swinging their heads during...

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden told CBS’s “60 Minutes” that it’s “improper” for Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, to serve in the administration, prompting a sharp rebuke from the Trump campaign.  “My children are not going to have offices in the White House. My children are not going to sit in on Cabinet meetings,” he says in an interview that will air Sunday. "Look, I wasn't raised to go after the children. Their actions speak for themselves. I can just tell you this, that if I'm president, get elected president, my children are not gonna have offices in the...

MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell turned to former Obama adviser Ben Rhodes to "fact check" President Donald Trump on American involvement in Syria. On Wednesday, Mitchell asked Rhodes to correct Trump's statements about ISIS fighters who escaped during U.S. withdrawal from the region. Trump claimed during a Wednesday speech that ISIS was "under very very strict lock and key," with only a "small number" escaping when American troops pulled back from Kurdish territory within Syria. "They've been largely recaptured," Trump added. In his "fact check," Rhodes said that it was "obvious" that a significant number of ISIS fighters escaped, before taking...

Even men who identify as women typically acknowledge that they are “transgender women,” clarifying that they were not born women. The Big Sky Conference didn’t even go that far when it honored a transgender woman as its “Female Athlete of the Week” in cross country. The student’s university was even more circumspect, simply identifying the transgender woman as “Athlete of the Week.” June Eastwood, formerly known as Jonathan, “finished second in a field of 204 runners at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational” and helped the University of Montana finish seventh as a team, the conference said in a press release....

“‘But the testimony which I have is greater than the testimony of John; for the works which the Father has given Me to accomplish—the very works that I do—testify about Me, that the Father has sent Me’” (John 5:36). John the Baptist’s testimony carried considerable weight; after all, he was the greatest man who had ever lived up to this time (Luke 7:28). But the testimony Jesus was about to introduce was far “greater than the testimony of John.” More convincing than the greatest prophet’s testimony to Christ were “the very works that” He did. Throughout His ministry the Lord...

  • NYT Confirms Ukraine Didn’t Know U.S. Froze Aid at Time of July 25 Call: ‘Can’t Have Quid Pro quo

The New York Times unwittingly confirmed the veracity of the GOP argument that there could be no quid pro quo because Ukraine did not know the United States had delayed the release of aid for the Eastern European country at the time of the July 25 call. In an article on Wednesday, the newspaper actually tried to discredit the argument but ended up confirming it instead. House Democrats pursuing the impeachment inquiry are trying to determine if President Donald Trump abused his power by allegedly coercing Ukraine during the July 25 call to investigate corruption allegations against Joe Biden and...

Grocery shopping had never been one of my favorite activities, but it never used to be as cumbersome as it is now. I'd fill up the cart with food, wait in line at the check-out counter and kibitz with the cashier as the bagger loaded up—and double-bagged—my groceries. Now, the lines are much slower because bagging has become an ordeal thanks to the "Earth-protecting" plastic-bag ban the state had passed a few years ago. Consider what happens now. Store employees can't simply place your food in the needed bags. They have to ask how many bags shoppers want to buy....

In the closing days of World War II, a Japanese American set out with other men from the infamous internment camp at Manzanar on a trip to the mountains, where he went off on his own to paint a watercolor and got caught in a freak summer snowstorm. A hiker found Giichi Matsumura's body weeks later amid a jumble of boulders, and he was laid to rest in a spot marked only by a small stack of granite slabs.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem (Music in The Bible) Psalm 6 Psalm 6[a] For the director of music. With stringed instruments. According to sheminith.[b] A psalm of David. 1 Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger     or discipline me in your wrath. 2 Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint;     heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony. 3 My soul is in deep anguish.     How long, Lord, how long? 4 Turn, Lord, and deliver me;     save me because of your unfailing love. 5 Among the dead no one proclaims your name.     Who praises you from the grave? 6 I...

As U.S. troops follow President Trump's orders and pull out of northeast Syria, they leave behind men they fought side by side with against the Islamic State group. Amid fears of ethnic cleansing by Turkey, the Kurds have agreed to withdraw from a border area where fighting is underway, and now terrified civilians are also fleeing. Caught in a struggle between two branches of government, career government workers on civil-servant salaries are worried about how to pay for lawyers to guide them through. WASHINGTON — As a parade of State Department officials began trooping to Capitol Hill this month to testify in the impeachment inquiry imperiling President Trump, officials from the department’s employee association dispatched an appeal to its nearly 17,000 members. Send money, they pleaded. For the second time since Mr. Trump took office, an investigation into his conduct has set off a scramble across Washington for lawyers to represent witnesses — and for the...

Investigators said faults by Boeing, Lion Air and pilots caused the crash. Five months after the disaster in October last year, an Ethiopian Airlines plane crashed, killing all 157 people on board, which led to the grounding of the entire 737 Max fleet. Faults with the plane's design have been linked to both crashes. [SNIP] What does the report say? The 353-page report found the jet should have been grounded before departing on the fatal flight because of an earlier cockpit issue. However, because the issue was not recorded properly the plane was allowed to take off without the fault...
