Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 6

Psalm 6[a]

For the director of music. With stringed instruments. According to sheminith.[b] A psalm of David.

1 Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger
    or discipline me in your wrath.
2 Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint;
    heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.
3 My soul is in deep anguish.
    How long, Lord, how long?

4 Turn, Lord, and deliver me;
    save me because of your unfailing love.
5 Among the dead no one proclaims your name.
    Who praises you from the grave?

6 I am worn out from my groaning.

All night long I flood my bed with weeping
    and drench my couch with tears.
7 My eyes grow weak with sorrow;
    they fail because of all my foes.

8 Away from me, all you who do evil,
    for the Lord has heard my weeping.
9 The Lord has heard my cry for mercy;
    the Lord accepts my prayer.
10 All my enemies will be overwhelmed with shame and anguish;
    they will turn back and suddenly be put to shame.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

From what I understand from reading other posts on this site, today is the day that the the pagans and witches have chosen for their annual CURSING of President Trump and his Supporters. I am not kidding. The thought of people gathering together to "pray" for evil, sickness, and disaster to befall another person is totally foreign to me. It is one thing for the Psalmist to pray for the defeat of his enemies. It is quite another to invoke evil spirits in a curse. Before we analyze today's Psalm, I want to give you a brief "Sneak Preview" of Tomorrow's, which is appropriate for today's situation.

14 Whoever is pregnant with evil
    conceives trouble and gives birth to disillusionment.
15 Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out
    falls into the pit they have made.
16 The trouble they cause recoils on them;
    their violence comes down on their own heads.

17 I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness;
    I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High.

Psalm 6 is a song and a prayer in a time of illness, which David's enemies use to chastise him for his sin. We see that kind of thing all the time. Allthough illness may indeed be a part of God's Judgement, it is not for the enemy to GLOAT about it. And that is just what they are doing.

David knows the source of his chastisement, and is repentant, asking God not to give him the full penalty. The "wages of sin is death", but the dead can't praise God or give Him the Glory.

David's relationship with The Almighty is such that he is able to ask such questions as "How Long?", "When?", and "Why?". This is because of God's Unfailing Love, not David's "righteousness".

When we suffer, it is bad enough, but the barbs and gloating of the enemy is even more painful. Yet David concludes his song with confidence and victory. It's that RELATIONSHIP that makes all the difference.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

This is a strange little story, and it just happened, and felt it was significant, considering the nefarious activities of the enemy.

As I was preparing today's commentary, a tick appeared on my arm. (It must have landed on me when I was walking the dog, because it was "fresh" and hadn't bitten me yet.) Now I know several people who have been afflicted with Lyme's Disease, so I got an immediate case of the "heebie jeebies" and brushed it off my wrist, causing it to land on my open Study Bible.

I grabbed a tissue, picked it up and flushed it, and went back to my reading. It had landed on Matthew 10:

"10 Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness."

I quickly said a prayer based upon that Scripture.

Another "coincidence"? You Decide.

This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. ...Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’” (2 Chronicles 20)

“The Lord of the Fight” Is Going Before You in Victory!

Dear friends, I want to remind you that GOD IS FIGHTING for you. The phrase “The Lord will fight for you,” found in Exodus 14:14, is such a powerful promise. From this verse, we can rightfully refer to God as the “Lord of the Fight” because He is the One fighting our battles. OUR God is THE Lord of all, the LORD of the FIGHT! The Bible refers to God as the Lord of Hosts, a man of war (Exodus 15:3). This is because He fights on behalf of His people and we can rejoice in the fact that He has NEVER lost a battle, and He NEVER will!
Be encouraged. No matter what you are facing, not only has Jesus already won the victory for you, but He is fighting for you right now! Romans 10:13 says, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Of course this speaks of your eternal salvation, but the word “saved” in this verse is the Greek word “Sozo.” It literally means to “make safe”and rescue from danger.” It also means “heal, preserve, protect and make whole.” It reveals that whatever our need may be, God will intervene and fight for you!
Remember today that you are not without help, and not without hope. Rise up today and call on His name because the Lord goes before you in victory. He is the Lord of the Fight!
