On her MSNBC show this morning and while discussing the grand jury that Robert Mueller has impaneled in Washington, DC, Joy Reid dismissed as “one of the more absurd arguments I’ve heard” Harvard law prof Alan Dershowitz’s assertion that DC has “an ethnic and racial composition that might be very unfavorable to the Trump Administration.” Paul Butler, a law prof at George Washington University, reinforced Reid: “Alan Dershowitz was my criminal law professor, but I’m here to teach him: Professor Dershowitz, you’re just wrong on that issue.” View the video here.

Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.) had no qualms about keeping an IT staffer on her payroll even while he was under federal investigation. House Capitol Police opened an investigation into Imran Awan and four other Democratic contractors in February. Despite every other member of Congress severing ties with those staffers, Schultz continued to keep Awan on her payroll, even after his House IT privileges were revoked. Schultz only stopped paying Awan in July, the day after he was arrested for bank fraud at Dulles Airport while attempting to flee to his native Pakistan.

A dozen sources told Huffington Post that at least two of Bolling’s female colleagues at Fox Business and one at Fox News received the photos of male genitalia from Bolling. The women who received the photos said they knew the messages were from him because they recognized his phone...

A student painting that depicts the Statue of Liberty wearing a Muslim hijab, displayed in congressman Lou Correa’s Santa Ana office, is being attacked as an unpatriotic violation of the separation of church and state by members of We the People Rising, a Claremont-based activist group that advocates stricter enforcement of immigration laws. The group, including several Orange County participants, has asked without success that Correa remove the painting hanging with other finalists from the Democratic congressman’s student art competition. Because of the complaint, Correa said he asked the House Office of Legislative Counsel for advice and was told there...

Former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee Al Gore told HBO's Bill Maher he thinks he carried the state of Florida in 2000, a state that would have given Gore the presidency over George W. Bush. Gore, 69, visited Maher on HBO's "Real Time" on Friday to discuss his follow-up climate change documentary "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power" when the host broached the issue of rising sea levels. .... “So when the sea levels rise, obviously we could lose Venice. We could lose Florida. And who would know better about losing Florida?” Maher joked, leading to some groans from the live...

For those of us who have experienced moral lapses in judgement that have led to trials and tribulations beyond what we ever imagined, there is hope for healing and restoration in Christ's message. This message reminds us that God’s agenda is not to crush sinners under his feet, but to heal and restore their relationship with Him. Regardless of how bad you may think your sin is, you will be restored in whole one day. We must know that if you are of God, then there will be a punishment for your sins during your life on earth, because...

Around 15 people reportedly connected to a right-wing extremist group briefly stopped the Stockholm Pride event, which saw 45,000 participants and thousands more Stockholmers celebrating in the city. The parade, which passed through the Swedish capital’s Östermalm neighbourhood, was briefly stopped at around 2:45pm by right-wing extremists, reports news agency TT. The group that interrupted the march is thought to be connected to right-wing extremist network Nordisk Ungdom (Nordic Youth), according to a report by Aftonbladet. “They interrupted the program and stopped the parade temporarily,” Mats Eriksson of Stockholm Police told TT. Eriksson confirmed that the people were “protesting”, but...

In what is surely an attempt by the Canadian state to make people fear the very idea of defending themselves and their families, a man has been charged with attempted murder after wrestling a gun from one of three armed home invaders and shooting one of them (non-life threatening injury). Why is it that Canada (and other nations) are so determined to ensure that the population is unable to adequately protect themselves? Kyle Earl Munroe was at home with a friend when three armed intruders entered his home, he and the other man struggled with the intruders, Munroe managed to...

Is a "noodle mass" a legitimate form of religious service? This has been the source of heated debate for years in the northeastern German town of Templin. Now, a court has issued a ruling on the matter. The controversy centers on four signs in the small German town of Templin, in the northeastern state of Brandenburg. At each of the four main entrances to the town, a sign erected by the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster informs locals of the date and time of their weekly "noodle mass," exactly like how the Catholic, Evangelical and Protestant denominations advertise their...

President Trump's national security adviser H.R. McMaster on Saturday defended President Trump's strategy on winning the war in Afghanistan. The president has not announced a comprehensive strategy on Afghanistan yet, but according to McMaster he has made “a number of decisions" on the military approach there. [snip] McMaster also added that the White House wants to see a "change in behavior" from interested groups in the region, particularly Pakistan. The top aide said that while Pakistan has taken "great losses" fighting the Taliban, they have done so "selectively." "This is Pakistan in particular that we want to really see a...
  • The US Navy’s newest aircraft carrier has no urinals

The $12.9 billion USS Gerald R. Ford, which can carry about 5,000, is the first new US aircraft carrier designed in 40 years. Of course, a lot has changed in 40 years. For one thing, it’s not uncommon to find women serving aboard such carriers these days. Women account for nearly 20% of the sailors in the US Navy. So, the ship’s designers adapted to the new reality. According to the Navy Times, the Ford has no urinals—only seated toilets with stalls.

Virgin Galactic performed the latest glide flight of its second SpaceShipTwo suborbital spaceplane Aug. 4, calling it a "dry run" for upcoming powered test flights. SpaceShipTwo, carried aloft by its WhiteKnightTwo aircraft, separated from the plane about an hour after its 11:58 a.m. Eastern takeoff from Mojave Air and Space Port in California. The spaceplane landed back in Mojave ten minutes later. The glide flight was the sixth for this SpaceShipTwo vehicle, named VSS Unity, and the first in two months. As on two previous glide flights, pilots tested the feathering system that raises the vehicle's twin tail booms for...

In the course of the segment Charles Krauthammer addresses the applicable law in a manner that is extremely misleading. This is what he had to say on the legal issues (my transcription): I thought we adjudicated this in Watergate days. We have an odd system but it is a traditional one where if there is an unauthorized leak of classified information — it’s illegal — the person who goes to jail is the leaker and not the receiver [i.e., the reporter]. We do want to have some protection for the First Amendment simply because we believe that the press needs...

At a recent community forum to discuss plans for the Obama Presidential Center, Karin Droegemueller stepped up to the microphone and introduced herself as an "angry birder." She is among a flock of birders who fear that the proposed $30 million Tiger Woods golf course and expanded driving range tied to the development of the Obama Center will ward off the millions of migratory birds that stop in Jackson Park, and displace the nearly 300 species that have helped make the park a favorite Chicago birding destination... But not all open land is equal, they say. A manicured golf course...
