Frontrunner Donald Trump invited fellow GOP presidential candidates Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum to attend his fundraiser for veterans, after the two expressed interest in attending to support a good cause. Trump even brought them on stage with him to discuss issues involving veterans. Trump said he had got to know both Huckabee and Santorum "on the trail, as they say." "We have Mike Huckabee sitting right here." Trump said to the crowd asking Huckabee to stand, adding he's a "great guy." "Where's Rick?" Trump then questioned. "Come up here for a second." Trump then pointed to Mrs. Huckabee and...

Best debate so far Kelly asked Rubio to defend his getting elected to Senate by opposing amnesty, then working with Senate Dems to pass their Obama amnesty bill. She even asked Cruz to defend his trying to amend the same Senate bill on citizenship without specifically calling for it to oppose all legalization of illegals. These FNC questions are tough. Cruz asked to defend his opposition to ethanol. So far none of them have walked off the stage in protest. Trump made a good decision to no-show, since he says that him being questioned on his past statements is being...

Moderator Martha MacCallum twisted facts during the GOP undercard debate in Iowa when she turned to pro-life former Sen. Rick Santorum and asked, "Carly Fiorina was the only one of the GOP candidates to attend the March for Life in Washington last week. Where were you?" The premise of MacCallum's question was deceptive, at best. As Breitbart News reported, Fiorina was the only GOP presidential candidate invited to speak at the March for Life on January 22. The committee that organizes the march set the theme of "Pro-Life, Pro-Woman Go Hand-in-Hand" as a way to counter the "war on women"...

The City Council officially announced late Thursday that it will hold a public hearing and vote next week on legislation to give all of the city’s elected officials significant salary increases for the first time in a decade. Salary for Council members who now make $112,500 plus bonuses will increase to $148,500, an increase of $36,000 or 32 percent. As first reported by POLITICO New York, the raises are tied to specific and significant governmental reforms, including the elimination of outside income, making Council seats full-time positions, and a requirement to publish financial disclosure forms in an online database. The...

This is a shortened and edited version of FBI footage showing the joint FBI and Oregon State Police traffic stop and OSP officer-involved shooting of Robert “LaVoy†Finicum on the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. You’ll note that Finicum was shot by an Oregon State Police Trooper at relatively close range as he appeared to be reaching into his coat in a manner consistent with attempting to draw a handgun. Flash bangs were then deployed in an effort to get the other occupants of the vehicle to surrender.

The spread between the yield on corporate bonds and that on treasuries passed the 2% mark yesterday for the first time in over three years yesterday. In the chart above I’ve annotated with red vertical lines the prior two occasions when spreads widened to this degree for the first time in at least two years. Notice that each of the two prior occurrences led to painful bear markets and recessions. Now this indicator alone isn’t sufficient evidence that another painful bear market and concomitant recession are on their way. However, when you pair it with the all the other data...

A well-funded Republican super-PAC is intensifying its assault on GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump, preparing to hit the airwaves in New Hampshire and Iowa. By the time its anti-Trump campaign is done, Our Principles PAC will get its messages before nearly every Republican voter in both Iowa and New Hampshire, founder Katie Packer said Thursday in a telephone interview with The Hill. "This is new money," she said when asked whether this campaign should be counted within the more than $1 million of anti-Trump ads already disclosed to the Federal Election Commission by her super-PAC. A larger but undisclosed amount...

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump is dominating Google searches during Thursday night's GOP debate, despite not being on the stage. The debate is sponsored by Fox News and Google. Trump announced earlier this week he wouldn't attend the event, just four days before the Iowa caucuses, claiming he was treated unfairly by Fox News. The network sent out a press release earlier this week mocking the billionaire businessman, who has had a long feud with Fox anchor Megyn Kelly. Instead of attending the debate, Trump is holding his own event at the same time to raise money for veterans. Trump...

Iraq's Mosul Dam Could Collapse, Causing 'Catastrophic' Destruction, Says U.S. General U.S. commander in Iraq warns of looming disaster if weak dam fails: 'In the U.S., we would have drained the lake behind it.' The top U.S. general in Iraq warned Thursday of the potential collapse of Mosul Dam in the country's north, saying such an event could prove "catastrophic." The U.S.-led coalition is still determining the likelihood the hydroelectric dam could collapse but has developed a contingency plan alongside the Iraqi government, said U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Sean MacFarland.

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump began his Thursday-night charity event by touting all of the people --including himself -- who wrote big checks for it. Trump announced that he would suddenly host a fundraiser for veterans as an alternative to going to the Fox News primary debate. Trump boycotted the event after repeatedly complaining about Fox host Megyn Kelly, one of the moderators at the debate, as well as the network overall. "First, we have to talk about people that made a lot of money," Trump began. "They wouldn't have made a lot of money, they wouldn't even be here,...

Mr. Trump mentioned at the end of the program that he had posted in the lobby a list of charities to which the money would go. I am very glad he said he was being careful about which organizations were chosen to ensure the funds go to benefit veterans. So the question, can anyone find a copy of the list to post? . . . I think it would be great information to get out publicly.

The powerful Syrian Kurdish YPG militia and its local allies have drawn up plans for a major attack to seize the final stretch of the Syrian-Turkish border held by Islamic State fighters, a YPG source familiar with the plan said on Thursday. Such an offensive could deprive Islamic State fighters of a logistical route that has been used by the group to bring in supplies and foreign recruits. But it could lead to confrontation with Turkey, which is fighting against its own Kurdish insurgents and sees the Syrian Kurds as an enemy. ...The source confirmed a report on Kurdish news...

David Cameron has vowed to resist plans by the European Union to bar Britain from waiving VAT on food, medicine and children's clothing, a senior EU official said. Pierre Moscovici, the Economics Commissioner, said that Britain's "zero rate" for VAT on a number of items is "not the best idea" and suggested it will be looked at as part of a review by the European Commission. It will fuel controversy as David Cameron holds a series of meetings as he prepares to call a referendum on Britain's continued membership of the of the European Union. ...

The first question and joke of the night, unsurprisingly, were about the man who did not show. Responding to Fox moderator Megyn Kelly's question about what kind of message it sends the people of Iowa to boycott the prime-time debate, Ted Cruz vowed to make the state "fly-to country" when he becomes president in 2017, not "flyover country."

The governing body of Oriel College, which owns the statue, has ruled out its removal after being warned that £1.5m worth of donations have already been canceled, and that it faces dire financial consequences if it bows to the Rhodes Must Fall student campaign. ...
