One of the four people arrested by U.S. Marshals following a shooting in Albuquerque has made his first court appearance. Union officials haven’t found a very receptive audience for their warnings of a doomsday scenario in a legal case about making teachers pay dues in order to keep their jobs. The case is called Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association and it is pending before the U.S. Supreme Court, which has scheduled oral arguments next week. According to America Works Together — a coalition formed in September by the nation’s largest public sector unions — the case is an “attack from wealthy special interests,” intended to “make it even harder for people to come together, speak up, and get ahead.” But...
  • Cruz spokesman: I’d be “deeply disappointed” if Sarah Palin endorses a progressive like Trump

This makes me think it is Palin who's going to endorse Trump today and that Team Cruz knows it. Otherwise Rick Tyler would have answered this question differently, in spokesman-ese. You know how it goes: "Oh, listen, I'm not going to speculate about who's endorsing who. Ted Cruz admires Governor Palin, she and Ted Cruz have been allies since he joined the Senate, but endorsements aren't going to win this race. Iowans are going to decide based on who has the better record standing up to the Washington cartel and that's obviously Senator Cruz." He doesn't say that. What he's...

With the primary just three weeks away, John Kasich appears to be enjoying something of a surge in New Hampshire. The latest ARG poll out of the state shows the Ohio governor enjoying a second place showing with 20% support. Trump leads the first-in-primary state (Iowa’s caucus is a week earlier) with 27%.

New Mexico plans to sue the federal government and the owners of two Colorado mines that were the source of a massive spill last year that contaminated rivers in Utah and other Western states, officials said Thursday. The New Mexico Environment Department said it filed a notice of its intention to sue the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over the spill. The lawsuit would be a first and also would target the state of Colorado and the owners of the Gold King and Sunnyside mines. Utah leaders have also reserved the possibility of legal action against the EPA. In a statement...

I'd appreciate it if someone posts downthread a few pictures of those Israeli women at the beach carrying assault rifles. Because there is a real lesson there, one that the Germans will probably ignore, but it's worth a try. Plus, those pictures are nice distractions during this cold spell we've having.

Welcome To The New Normal: The Dow Crashes Another 390 Points And Wal-Mart Closes 269 Stores Did you know that 15 trillion dollars of global stock market wealth has been wiped out since last June? The worldwide financial crisis that began in the middle of last year is starting to spin wildly out of control. On Friday, the Dow plunged another 390 points, and it is now down a total of 1,437 points since the beginning of this calendar year. Never before in U.S. history have stocks ever started a year this badly. The same thing can be said...

See if you can tell that I'm angry. Sean Penn is the dolt who fancies himself as a journalist while surrendering all editorial control to his subject, a drug lord and murderer. CBS This Morning has decided to enroll in the Sean Penn School of Journalism. The Hillary whores hosts at CBS This Morning spent an entire segment of the show painting Michigan Governor as the bad guy in the Flint Michigan tainted water scandal. They likened it to a "Katrina moment." The segment then turned entirely into a Hillary Clinton campaign commercial. Everything centered around what Hillary had to...

A terror cell accused of plotting drive-by shootings in the UK used Nike trainers as code words for buying a gun, a court heard. Medical student Tarik Hassane, the alleged ringleader, used coded language when talking online with his co-accused and close friend Suhaib Majeed, the Old Bailey was told. He referred to "creps" or "black Huaraches" which prosecutor Brian Altman QC said would ordinarily be a reference to a type of Nike trainer, but in their secret language, they meant firearms. Days later, on August 25 2014, Majeed reported back "I got it", to which Hassane replied "kl" (cool)....

India's top software services firm Wipro said the recent H1B visa fee hike by the US will have a "large impact running into multi-million dollars", on Monday. The company will try to hire more locals in the US to offset the impact. "It is a large impact running into multi-million dollars for Wipro and also I'm sure for similar such organizations, and it will have meaningful impact on our operating margins. Once we start applying for that, we will disclose those numbers," Wipro chief financial officer Jatin Dalal told reporters in Bengaluru, reported the Press Trust of India. "...this is...

Bristol Palin on Tuesday urged her mom, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, to endorse Donald Trump over Republican presidential rival Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas). The younger Palin took to her blog to note that her mom "has consistently supported" Cruz and accuse the Texas senator of "arrogance" for thinking a Trump endorsement could hurt her. "After hearing what Cruz is now saying about my mom, in a negative knee-jerk reaction, makes me hope my mom does endorse Trump," Bristol Palin wrote in her blog post that her mom shared on her Facebook page and tweeted to her 1.2 million followers....
  • Safe Stolen From Miami Beach Mansion Once Owned by Pablo Escobar: Police

As wrecking crews begin demolition on a Miami Beach mansion once owned by Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, police and the current owners are investigating a very mysterious and very recent theft at the property. The pink waterfront mansion, located in the 5800 block of North Bay Road, was owned by Escobar in the early 1980's before it was seized by the U.S. government 1987, then purchased by a private owner in 1990. s The current owners, Chicken Kitchen owner Christian de Berdouare and his wife, former NBC 6 anchor Jennifer Valoppi, purchased the home in 2014. Sen. Lindsey Graham says that Sen. Ted Cruz is not a more acceptable nominee than Donald Trump. Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Graham said Trump’s “message is not a good message for us. And it will catch up with us in general. So if you really want to make Hillary Clinton president of the United States, vote for Donald Trump. Dishonest beats crazy.” Graham, who has endorsed Jeb Bush, was asked by NBC’s Willie Geist, “If Donald Trump is not acceptable candidate to you, Ted Cruz is close behind him in a lot of the polls. As Jeb Bush continues to lag in the polls, his backers have mounted a Texas strategy, with nearly $5 million in reserved television airtime and an organization they say is extensive and months in the making. The time has been reserved in major media markets, including Houston and San Antonio. It's enough to buy at least 10,000 television advertising spots. -snip- Henson, co-director of the UT/Texas Tribune poll, pointed out that in November trial ballots, Bush was the first choice of only 4 percent of those GOP voters and the second choice of 6 percent. Ever since the USSR collapsed, tourist stalls in Moscow and St. Petersburg have heaved with Soviet knickknacks: Red Army caps and badges, prints of Stalin’s propaganda posters. Today, while much of this is still available, they also tempt visitors to Russia with an increasingly elaborate array of Putin kitsch. On T-shirts, mugs and key rings, Vladimir Putin strikes his signature sunglasses-wearing pose, the image of Russia’s latest strongman ruler. Taking its cue, much Western reporting increasingly assumes that, in time-honored fashion, the Russians have made a personality cult of their leader, with Putin its subject as Stalin was before him.

Exclusive: Pentagon May Demote David PetraeusThe defense secretary is looking to clamp down on misbehaving generals. Pentagon insiders say Petraeus could be the next general to face the consequences. The Pentagon is considering retroactively demoting retired Gen. David Petraeus after he admitted to giving classified information to his biographer and mistress while he was still in uniform, three people with knowledge of the matter told The Daily Beast. The decision now rests with Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, who is said to be willing to consider overruling an earlier recommendation by the Army that Petraeus not have his rank...

Donald Trump may be looking to get litigious with the Washington Post after the newspaper published an article detailing the bankruptcy of the billionaire presidential candidate's Atlantic City casino. When asked to discuss the details of the Taj Mahal's failure in the early '90s, Trump said, "This was not personal. This was a corporate deal. If you write this one, I'm suing you."
