That figure represents charitable contributions...

Former UN Ambassador John Bolton announced today that he will not seek the GOP nomination for president in 2016, effectively leaving the foreign policy hawk’s top super PAC donors to look elsewhere for someone to back. Some have already found their candidate — or maybe more than one — though in many cases we don’t yet know whom they’ve anointed. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is the only White House aspirant whose campaign has reported donors at this point. (Mid-July, when the reports will come due, will likely be full of surprises.) Texas oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens seems to have...

It’s the admission conservatives have been waiting for! Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-Ore.) just told the world what conservatives have suspected for decades:“Our party has gotten to be a party of liberal elites. That’s great if you want to be in the minority for the next 30 years. That’s not where America is. Democrats have left our lunch-bucket allies behind.”In an interview regarding his opposition to the EPA, Rep. Schrader makes the admission after after calling the EPA the “big problem for economic development in our region.” …

NEW YORK (AP) — When Oprah Winfrey was a youngster, the mere sighting of an African-American on television was occasion to alert all the neighbors, she recalled. "We would call them to say, 'Colored people are on TV! Colored people are on!'" The only black child she was ever likely to see telecast was the unflattering role model Buckwheat on the ancient "Little Rascals" comedies, Winfrey added.

Whoever wants to become a Christian must first become a poet. – St. Pophyrios of Kavsokalyvia St. Porphyrios made this statement in the context of love and suffering: "That’s what it is! You must suffer. You must love and suffer–suffer for the one you love. Love makes effort for the loved one. She runs all through the night; she stays awake; she stains her feet with blood in order to meet her beloved. She makes sacrifices and disregards all impediments, threats, and difficulties for the sake of the loved one. Love towards Christ is something even higher, infinitely higher." This...

The mysterious deaths of four people found in a burning house in Northwest Washington on Thursday afternoon prompted police to ask the public for help in investigating what they called a highly suspicious fire. Police said that three adults and a child, whose identities were not released, were found on the second floor of a home on Woodland Drive NW, just north of the vice president’s residence at the U.S. Naval Observatory. Police did not say how they died. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said that detectives were trying to track the movements of a blue 2008 Porsche, with D.C....

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia reaffirmed his commitment to defending the Constitution while speaking to the Federalist Society in his home state of New Jersey on Friday. Scalia, the preeminent conservative firebrand of the court, told the audience it is the structure of the government under the Constitution and not the liberties guaranteed under the Bill of Rights that makes us free. As reported by The Daily Signal: “Every tin horn dictator in the world today, every president for life, has a Bill of Rights,” said Scalia, author of the 2012 book Reading Law: The Interpretation of Legal Texts. “That’s...

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, addressed a gathering of Iranian teachers on May 6 who repeatedly responded to his address by chanting in unison: “Allah is great! Khamene’i is the leader! Death to the enemies of the leadership! Death to America! Death to England! Death to the hypocrites! Death to Israel!” According to an English-language transcript of the speech published by the BBC, the Iranian teachers interrupted the ayatollah with chants calling for death to America, England and Israel at three points in his speech. “We say that teachers carry out the task of the prophets; this is the...

And now, I present the super amazing transformation timeline of Mike Huckabee on common core. ———- Mid 2013: “These standards, known as Common Core State Standards, have been near and dear to my heart since I served as Governor of your neighboring state of Arkansas. And it’s disturbing to me there have been criticisms of these standards directed by other conservatives including the RNC. The truth of the matter is, these criticisms are short-sighted. Like many of you, I’ve heard the argument these standards “threaten local control” of what’s being taught in Oklahoma classrooms. Speaking from one conservative to another,...

Tyson's Corner, Virginia (CNN)—One hundred leaders in the conservative movement met behind closed doors Thursday as part of an attempt to consolidate support for their favored presidential candidates. The Conservative Action Project convened the summit at the Ritz-Carlton in Tyson's Corner, Virginia to educate leaders of super PACs ranging from the Club for Growth and the Senate Conservatives Fund and activists from social-conservative organizations like the Family Research Council and the Eagle Forum. The goal, according to two attendees, is to narrow the leaders' support to a few candidates by the next time the organization meets in October. Some of...

(CNSNews.com) – Attorney General Loretta Lynch vowed on Tuesday to continue the Obama administration’s push for public schools to abandon their “zero tolerance” discipline policy, because critics claim it is aimed disproportionately at minority students and other “at risk” youth, including migrants and LGBT students. “We are working with our partners in the private sector, and of course, the federal government, including Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Secretary of Labor Tom Perez, to end the school to prison pipeline that sends too many children on the well-worn path from the schoolhouse to the jailhouse,” Lynch said at the National...

Thieves are stealing money from people's credit cards, bank and PayPal accounts -- by first tapping into their Starbucks mobile app. Starbucks (SBUX) on Wednesday acknowledged that criminals have been breaking into individual customer rewards accounts. The Starbucks app lets you pay at checkout with your phone. It can also reload Starbucks gift cards by automatically drawing funds from your bank account, credit card or PayPal. That's how criminals are siphoning money away from victims. They break into a victim's Starbucks account online, add a new gift card, transfer funds over -- and repeat the process every time the original...

George Stephanopoulos was one of the most partisan of partisan warriors ever — just look at "The War Room," the documentary from the 1992 Clinton presidential campaign. So it was something of a surprise in 1996 when ABC News hired Stephanopoulos, fresh out of the Clinton White House. And there was some confusion about what the deeply partisan Stephanopoulos' role would be: Analyst? Pundit? Straight news reporter? At the time, I asked ABC about it and was assured Stephanopoulos would be a pundit — like William Kristol, who was then with ABC News — and would not do any news...

NDAA CUTS MILITARY PERSONNEL to ADD ILLEGALS Seeking Amnesty May 14, 2015 By Colleen Conley The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016 is currently being bandied about by Congress, with potentially dire circumstances facing our armed services. The NDAA sets the legal framework within which the defense budget operates and informs the Department of Defense what it must or cannot do in various areas. The current debate swirling around the FY16 NDAA demonstrates the inability of Congress to grasp the primary issues which determine funding of the military; the Budget Control Act of 2011 and entitlement spending. In...

President Barack Obama might not be prepared to commit the United States to providing lethal aid to Ukraine in its effort to beat back Russian aggression destabilizing the eastern portion of that country, but America is increasingly committed to that fight. “At a former Soviet military base outside of the western Ukrainian town of Lviv, about 300 U.S. Army paratroopers from the 173rd Airborne Brigade, which is based in Vicenza, Italy, are training the Ukrainian National Guard,” Newsweek revealed this week. Though they are not using American weapons, Ukraine’s soldiers are receiving a crash course in U.S. military tactics in...

The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Jose has a traveling LGBT mass called “All Are Welcome” (see a news report about it here; the reporter enthuses that this could be a first step in changing Catholic teaching). I found out about it in this comment from a reader:... ...If I were still Catholic and lived in that Diocese, I honestly don’t know what I would do. I could not go to mass in diocesan parishes that so clearly and even proudly defied authoritative church teaching any more than I could go to an Arian mass back in the day. And...

The Amtrak train that derailed in Philadelphia on Tuesday night was equipped with an automatic speed control system that officials say could have prevented the crash, which killed eight passengers and injured hundreds. But the system, which was tantalizingly close to being operational, was delayed by budgetary shortfalls, technical hurdles and bureaucratic rules, officials said Thursday. In 2008, Congress ordered the installation of what is known as positive train control systems, which can detect an out-of-control, speeding train and automatically slow it down. But because lawmakers failed to provide the railroads access to the wireless frequencies required to make the...

CLEARWATER -- An Amtrak conductor on medical leave in the Bay area has watched news of the derailment in Philadelphia in disbelief. Mike Callanan worked that very northeast route for Amtrak as a conductor for five years. He even trained the conductor who was onboard when the train flew off the track, killing eight people. “It was very emotional for me," said Callanan. "These are my brothers and sisters out there. I worked with them every day on the Northeast Corridor.” Callanan is very familiar with the curve leaving Philadelphia where the derailment occurred. The speed limit is 50 miles...

The spacious $2 million family home, a short walk from Joe Biden's home on Embassy Row, is owned by Savvas Savopoulos, president and CEO of American Iron Works, the leading manufacturer of building works in the United States. Savopoulos, 46, lived with his wife Amy, two teenage daughters Abigail and Katerina, 10-year-old son Philip, and two house keepers in the exclusive neighborhood alongside numerous ambassadors.
