A Willow man accused of killing another man before turning the gun on himself in an April shooting in Talkeetna died Wednesday night in Anchorage. Billy Kidd, 57, spent 11 days in the critical care unit of an Anchorage hospital before dying around 10:22 p.m. of injuries sustained in the shooting that left 33-year-old Andrew Lafrance dead, Alaska State Trooper spokesperson Beth Ipsen said.

There is no doubt about it, the French-built Rafale fighter is on a roll. Egypt suddenly sealed a deal for 24 of the multirole fighters in February, India finally consummated a reduced initial order of 36 jets, and now Qatar will purchase 24. After 20 years, the Rafale has gone from an export zero to export hero in a blistering 45 days. Each country that has bought the Rafale has done so for different reasons. India is looking to bridge the gap that will be left by retiring old MiG-21s and MiG-27s, and to offset delays in the country’s indigenous...
  • Vanity: Is the Race Of the Six Baltimore Cops Known?

I've looked and been unable to find any news story that says whether the six cops who were involved in moving Mr. Grey were Black, White, Hispanic (or, I suppose, other). It's my understanding that five of the six have given statements to the investigators and one, presumably for Fifth Amendment reasons, hasn't. The race of the cops is obviously relevant but i haven't seen anything that says what race(s) they are. The wisdom and knowledge of all Freepers will be gratefully accepted.

It’s not surprising that a black mother in Baltimore who chased down, cursed and beat her 16-year-old son in the middle of a riot has been called a hero. In this country, when black mothers fulfill stereotypes of mammies, angry and thwarting resistance to a system designed to kill their children, they get praised. “He gave me eye contact,” Toya Graham told CBS News. “And at that point, you know, not even thinking about cameras or anything like that — that’s my only son and at the end of the day, I don’t want him to be a Freddie Gray....

May 1, 2015Friday of the Fourth Week of Easter Reading 1 Acts 13:26-33 When Paul came to Antioch in Pisidia, he said in the synagogue:“My brothers, children of the family of Abraham, and those others among you who are God-fearing,to us this word of salvation has been sent. The inhabitants of Jerusalem and their leaders failed to recognize him,and by condemning him they fulfilled the oracles of the prophetsthat are read sabbath after sabbath. For even though they found no grounds for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him put to death, and when they had accomplished all that...

KENNEWICK, Wash. — After recently shutting down the fundraising page for persecuted Christian bakers in Oregon, the popular crowdfunding site GoFundMe has now removed a page for a Christian florist who is at risk of losing her business, home and/or life savings for declining to use her services for a same-sex “wedding.”

GoFundMe’s old policy on crowdfunding may not have been enough to justify its decision last weekend to kill campaigns on behalf of a Christian-owned florist and bakery — but its new policy is. The website quietly expanded its list of banned crowdfunding activities this week shortly after The Washington Times questioned GoFundMe’s reliance on its policy against campaigns in defense of “formal charges of heinous crimes” to pull fundraisers for Arlene’s Flowers and for Sweet Cakes by Melissa. The new policy, which includes a ban on campaigns in defense of “claims of discriminatory acts,” would appear to make it more...
  • House Rejects Bid to Let VA Docs Give Advice on Medical Pot

The GOP-controlled House Thursday barely rejected a bid by supporters of medical marijuana to permit veterans to receive information about the drug from their government doctors. The 213-210 vote came on a failed amendment to a bill funding the budget for the Department of Veterans Affairs. The proposal by Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., would have lifted a rule blocking VA doctors from discussing the pros or cons of medical pot. They would still not have been able to prescribe it. He said marijuana is less addicting and dangerous than drugs like opiates that are commonly prescribed. "States are listening to...
  • Police kill woman who fired at them from inside patrol car (Atlanta)

Police officers in Atlanta fatally shot a woman who first fired at them while sitting in the back of a patrol car Thursday, authorities said. Two officers were investigating a call about a stolen car Thursday afternoon when they saw a woman sitting inside the vehicle in a parking deck, said Major Darin Schierbaum. He said they took the woman into custody and put her in a patrol car, and that at one point she fired at least two shots at the officers. Schierbaum said the officers returned fire, critically wounding her. She later died at a hospital, he said.

The latest potentially damning “Clinton cash” allegation involves a 2008 nuclear agreement between India and the United States. According to Politico, Peter Schweizer says that Hillary Clinton changed her position on the agreement after Indian business and government interests flooded various Clinton enterprises with cash. The newly obtained chapter, titled “Indian Nukes: How to Win a Medal by Changing Hillary’s Mind,” details a series of donations and overtures from Indians who supported the nuclear deal to the Clintons, and points to one case of an Indian-American Clinton donor — who in April 2014 pleaded guilty in an illegal contribution scheme...

Campaign Canards: Don’t fall for these electoral fallacies by Daniel Clark Now that candidates are officially entering the 2016 race, it’s only a matter of time before political pundits and historians start regurgitating every factoid, tidbit and dose of conventional wisdom there’s ever been about presidential campaigns. Unfortunately, most of them will be wrong. In particular, here are some of the most stubborn electoral fallacies that we can expect to hear repeated over the next 18 months: * The New Hampshire primary results are very important. – From a fundraising standpoint, there may be some truth to that, but the...

RUSH: Now, I want to say some things here about Freddie Gray, but you run a risk in doing so. Some people might interpret as attacking victim, and I want to assure everybody it's not the case, and I want to remind everybody what I do here. You know, I'm a harmless, lovable, little fuzzball. I do not have an attack mentality. I'm not even offering this in any kind of a defensive posture. I just want people to understand what happens here. I go through the day, every day, and I consume news. It's one of my hobbies. It's...

Joe Namath, one of the most charismatic players in NFL history and one of the game's greatest quarterbacks, said today that if he'd known then what he knows now about concussions, he would never have played football. Namath, who has recently undergone treatment for brain injuries, was asked in an interview with Tiffany Kenney of ABC's West Palm Beach, Florida, affiliate WPBF-TV whether would still play the game, given all he has learned about the effects of concussions. "No," he said. "I hate to say that because if I had a child who wanted to play I'd let them play...

Another day, another Clinton scandal. The Boston Globe reported this morning that yet another Clinton tax-exempt organization, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), failed to disclose foreign donations it received while Hillary Clinton served as Secretary of State.“The Clinton Health Access Initiative never submitted information on any foreign donations to State Department lawyers for review during Clinton’s tenure from 2009 to 2013,” the Boston Globe wrote. “[CHAI CEO Maura Daley] said the charity deemed it unnecessary, except in one case that she described as an ‘oversight.'”More interesting, however, is CHAI’s stated rationale for refusing to disclose the donations: since it...

Investigators with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have classified Monday night's fires in Baltimore – including a blaze that destroyed a senior apartment complex – as arson, and are seeking help in solving the crimes. The ATF has established a $10,000 reward for information in the fires, which ATF Special Agent in Charge William P. McMullan called "violent acts of arson committed throughout our city." "Arson is a crime of violence and the individuals who committed these acts need to be held accountable for their dangerous actions," McMullan said in a statement. The ATF is seeking...
