A Willow man accused of killing another man before turning the gun on himself in an April shooting in Talkeetna died Wednesday night in Anchorage. Billy Kidd, 57, spent 11 days in the critical care unit of an Anchorage hospital before dying around 10:22 p.m. of injuries sustained in the shooting that left 33-year-old Andrew Lafrance dead, Alaska State Trooper spokesperson Beth Ipsen said.

The GOP-controlled House Thursday barely rejected a bid by supporters of medical marijuana to permit veterans to receive information about the drug from their government doctors. Police officers in Atlanta fatally shot a woman who first fired at them while sitting in the back of a patrol car Thursday, authorities said. Two officers were investigating a call about a stolen car Thursday afternoon when they saw a woman sitting inside the vehicle in a parking deck, said Major Darin Schierbaum. He said they took the woman into custody and put her in a patrol car, and that at one point she fired at least two shots at the officers. Schierbaum said the officers returned fire, critically wounding her. She later died at a hospital, he said.
