The suspect got away, but was caught Thursday morning in Northeast D.C. while hiding in a kitchen cabinet, police said. Prince George's County police identified the suspect as 27-year-old Juan Randolph. Sources tell FOX 5 the older woman was a virgin. She apparently had a roommate who was not hurt.

Recycling a comment that he made in 2012, presidential candidate and Texas senator Ted Cruz (R) doubled down on his statement that he has never seen a “Hispanic panhandler,” ThinkProgress reported. While speaking earlier this week with the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Cruz was asked “how to inform, mobilize, and attract Hispanic voters in 2016. Cruz’s response was that the Hispanic community is “fundamentally conservative one” and that they “work their fingers to the bones.” Some years ago, I was having lunch with a Hispanic entrepreneur in Austin. He asked me a question. He said, “When was the last...

Having never run a business, made payroll, or served his country in a leadership capacity with any accomplishment. As the race for the White House gears up, all eyes are on the presidential contenders, and there has never been a larger crop of Catholics either already in the race, or waiting in the wings. If anyone wants to get a glimpse into the contemporary Catholic Church in the United States, the range of Catholic politicians reflects the amazingly diverse and difficult variety of American Catholics.   The “conservative Catholics” are best represented by Senator Rick Santorum. A life-long Catholic, Santorum became more serious about his faith after marrying. Now a daily mass attendee, Rick Santorum has put...

  • Can Ted Cruz's hawkish populism actually win? ("There isn't really a natural Cruz constituency")

The Republican foreign policy debate usually gets described as a divide between Rand Paul and ... basically everyone else. But Ted Cruz wants to change that, positioning himself as a sort of "third way" between Paul's non-interventionism and Bush-style neoconservatism. Cruz's approach seems like it should be popular, but it also illustrates one of the central problems in his candidacy: there isn't really a natural Cruz constituency. Cruz's position on the use of force is hawkish: he wants the US to be far more aggressive than the Obama administration has been when facing threats. But he's also skeptical of nation...

BALTIMORE, Md. (WJLA) -- An investigation into the death of Baltimore resident Freddie Gray has found no evidence that his fatal injuries were caused during the videotaped arrest and interaction with police officers, according to multiple law enforcement sources. The sources spoke to ABC7 News after being briefed on the findings of a police report turned over to prosecutors on Thursday. Sources said the medical examiner found Gray's catastrophic injury was caused when he slammed into the back of the police transport van, apparently breaking his neck; a head injury he sustained matches a bolt in the back of the...

State police investigating alcohol agents’ arrest of University of Virginia student Martese Johnson have forwarded a report including several hundred pages of documents to Charlottesville’s top prosecutor. Details on the findings were unavailable, and it’s unclear whether the report, which also includes hours of recorded interviews, will be made public. Requested by city Commonwealth’s Attorney Dave Chapman, the probe is one of two state police launched in the wake of Johnson’s arrest early March 18 outside a Corner pub. Gov. Terry McAuliffe also ordered an investigation. Chapman, who was prosecuting a murder trial Wednesday, was unavailable for comment. The law...

Man sentenced to 60 years for 'brutal' northwest branch trail rape ROCKVILLE, Md. Joaquin Orellana Torres, 24, received his sentence in Montgomery County Circuit Court Thursday morning. The judge presiding over the case said he deviated from guidelines when sentencing Torres because of the brutality of the attack. Hanoi is the first Southeast Asian nation arming its submarines with land attack cruise missiles. Vietnam is in the process of acquiring 50 anti-ship and land attack 3M-14E Klub supersonic cruise missiles for its burgeoning fleet of SSK Kilo-class diesel-electric submarines, Der Spiegel Online reports. According to the article, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) recently updated data on its website, based on information obtained from the United Nations’ register of conventional arms, indicating that Russia has already delivered 28 missiles over the last two years to Hanoi, although the precise number remains unknown. The Klub is a Russian-made...

“I’ll have those niggers voting Democrat for two-hundred years.” — President Lyndon Johnson. The Democrat Party has always been about oppressing blacks as a way to retain political power. After their defense of slavery failed at the hands of Republican President Abraham Lincoln, Democrats formed the Ku Klux Klan and instituted Jim Crow laws. The Welfare State, created by Lyndon Johnson through The Great Society in 1964 (just a year after that quote), might have started with good intentions. In reality, though, it has turned out to be just another malevolent tactic designed to protect Democrats at the expense and...

Christianity killed paganism in antiquity; what will kill the new paganism? Western civilization may be swiftly defaulting to functional paganism, and by default paganism I do not mean we shall see the gods and goddesses again dressed out in temples, hungry for sacrifice. Pan, Zeus, or Athena may find niche markets in contemporary neo-paganism, but I don’t think even they will fit into the unfocused spirituality trending today. No, what I mean by default paganism are habits of thought and living that commonly governed life for ordinary Romans, the people. Until roughly the mid-twentieth century, there were three widespread...

A recent survey by UC-Berkeley's student assembly found that nearly half -- 47% -- of its Ph.D students were depressed, citing dismal job prospects. About 37% of its master's degree students also reported depression. Even though the once-a-decade report only focused on Berkeley -- one of the most prestigious public universities in the country -- it could spark a wider discussion on the value of graduate education in America. "The largest source of anxiety for me is my job outlook. It is tremendously uncertain and thus fear-inducing," one anonymous graduate student said in their survey response. Job pessimism was the...

Thomas Cromwell was the principal behind-the-scenes fixer for much of the reign of King Henry VIII. He engineered the interrogations, convictions and executions of many whom Henry needed out of the way, including his two predecessors as fixer and even the king's second wife, Queen Anne. When Cromwell's son, Gregory, who became sickened as he watched his father devolving from counselor to monster, learned that an executioner for the queen had been sent for from France a week before her conviction, he asked his father what the purpose of her trial was if the king had preordained the queen's guilt...

The latest apologists for the Sexual Revolution – that great swamp of sewage backup, human misery, family breakdown, squalid entertainment, and lawyers – have been saying that the most radical anthropological breach ever known to man, the detachment of marriage from childbirth and the plain facts of nature, will have no effect (none at all, not to worry) on marriage and childbirth and family and community life. To which I reply, “Haven’t you said that before?” About what exactly have the sexual revolutionaries been right? Which of their non-predictions has been confirmed? They told us that liberalization of the divorce...

ROME—In this far reaching, follow-up interview to a story Aleteia brought you in February, Bishop Emmanuel Badejo, who serves as Director of Communications for the African Bishops, discusses with Aleteia the latest developments regarding Boko Haram, and his fellow Nigerian bishop’s claim that he had vision of Jesus Christ, who told him the terrorist organization would be defeated through the power of the rosary.    He also offers his perspective on Hillary Clinton’s statement last week that “deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed” for the sake of giving women access to “reproductive health...
