For today's post, I want to depart from the normal news and political chatter we normally discuss and focus on something that I believe is travesty, both in America and across the world. For decades, Lance Armstrong has been the epitome of toughness and grit in the world of sports. He managed to beat cancer, no small feat there, and then came back to win the Tour de France seven years running. He was heralded as a superstar and he became a millionaire because of his victories and the resulting endorsements. All of this took place amidst accusations of doping....

It’s hard to turn on your TV or read an editorial page these days without encountering someone declaring, with an air of great seriousness, that excessive spending and the resulting budget deficit is our biggest problem. Such declarations are rarely accompanied by any argument about why we should believe this; it’s supposed to be part of what everyone knows. This is, however, a case in which what everyone knows just ain’t so. The budget deficit isn’t our biggest problem, by a long shot. Furthermore, it’s a problem that is already, to a large degree, solved. The medium-term budget outlook isn’t...

The Next 10 Years Are Going To Be Mind-BlowingWe are living in an extremely exciting time in terms of science and technology. Things that have always been considered science fiction are becoming normal day-to-day components of our lives. And while we have been seeing invention after breakthrough over and over in the last couple of decades, this next ten years is going to blow everything else out of the water. The awesome thing about all these scientific discoveries it that they create technology that allows us to make more breakthroughs even faster. Our ability to innovate is increasing exponentially as the...

Listen to Your Heart Today's Scripture “The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, and adds learning to his lips.” (Proverbs 16:23, NKJV) Today's Word from Joel and Victoria The scripture tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. God Himself spoke the worlds into existence by the creative power of words. Think about that for a moment — you can bless your future with your words, or you can curse it. There are many influences over our words. In the heat of the moment, we can let our emotions tell us what to...

“It Is the Lord!” "Thomas answered and said to Him, ’My Lord and my God!’" —John 20:28 Jesus said to her, ’Give Me a drink’ †(John 4:7). How many of us are expecting Jesus Christ to quench our thirst when we should be satisfying Him! We should be pouring out our lives, investing our total beings, not drawing on Him to satisfy us. “You shall be witnesses to Me . . .†(Acts 1:8). That means lives of pure, uncompromising, and unrestrained devotion to the Lord Jesus, which will be satisfying to Him wherever He may send us.Beware...

Martial arts movie legend Jackie Chan deserves a rhetorical roundhouse kick to the mouth. So does his pal PSY, the Korean rapper whose "Gangnam Style" music video has racked up more than a billion views worldwide. Both men have raked in big bucks from Western fans while trashing the very freedoms and cultures that made them superstars. Last week, The Washington Post spotlighted a recent interview Chan did with Chinese TV in which he accused America of being "the most corrupt country in the world." The Hong Kong-born Chan also admitted proudly that he is a propagandist for the Communist...

My daughter-in-law asked me a question today. She asked me: So I'm curious- COMPLETELY disregarding Obama, terrorism, muslims, etc- what do you think would be a solid solution to reduce gun violence? This is my answer. It's long, but I hope you take the time to read it. This is going to be a very difficult question to answer, mainly because there are no simple answers. But one thing is certain: guns, and the availability of them, are not the problem. I’m going to reach into the Bible tonight because the only answer(s) I can give you are found in...

The Obama administration has taken exploiting children to a new low. On Thursday, the White House posted four YouTube videos of children reading letters to the president about finding a solution to the gun violence problem (the same kids sitting behind him on Wednesday). In Hinna’s video, for example, she says, “Can we stop using guns? I think if there are no guns on the street no one could get hurt. Bullets don’t have eyes, it can hurt anyone. I’m really scared of guns and criminals around the world. I love my country and I want everyone to be happy...

I’m a peaceful, law abiding citizen. I’ve never so much as thrown a punch in a fist fight. Don’t have temper tantrums, not much of a sports fan. Never played football, baseball soccer, or hockey. Batted a few tennis balls around in high school, and that’s not false modesty; I considered it a great accomplishment if when I got the ball over the net. As a sportsman, I was a great reader. But I loved to shoot. I practiced marksmanship in my high school indoor range with the school’s .22 rifles. I saved up and got one of my own,...

So many tears for a fake dead girl, but none for a real one. The death of Notre Dame football star Manti Te’o’s beautiful, brave girlfriend Lennay Kekua — widely reported by Sports Illustrated, CBS and many other media outlets — was all either an elaborate hoax or worse. And in response, my alma mater held the kind of emotional news conference for the fake dead girl they never held for the real one, Lizzy Seeberg.

JERUSALEM — Less than a week before Israel’s parliamentary elections, a fractured array of centrist parties has failed to join forces and offer a coherent alternative to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Divided by personal rivalries and the lack of a shared agenda, Netanyahu’s centrist challengers remain at odds, and two have even signaled more readiness to join a future coalition under his leadership than unite with each other. While Netanyahu has focused on what he portrays as his ability to defend Israel militarily and diplomatically, his centrist opponents are trying to steer the campaign to other issues, targeting potential voters...

The VCDL just sent out the list of gun bills that have hit the General Assembly. Time to take action. I refuse to be disarmed. You should too. If you want to cower in the corner then by all means do so. Just keep your mouth shut while some of us deal with the threats facing this nation!

The Obama administration's current warpath against so-called "gun violence" -- which is Newspeak for non-violence committed by non-criminals with their non-illegal private property -- is a brazen challenge to America's manhood. The progressives have apparently decided that this is the moment when they can play their ultimate authoritarian hand, and let the chips fall where they may. They believe, in other words, that this is the moment when they may be able to break America at last, one way or another. Through Obama's forceful, smug insistence on taking action in defiance of Congress, along with the aggressive urging to do...

Q: An unbaptized person can’t receive any of the other sacraments unless he gets baptized first, right? So how is it possible for a Catholic to marry a non-Christian in a Catholic ceremony? I don’t see how the non-Christian spouse can be receiving the sacrament of matrimony, if he’s never received the sacrament of baptism! Is the marriage a sacrament for the Catholic but not for the non-Christian? How does this work? –Ashley A: It’s a very astute observation! By thinking it through logically, Ashley has spotted a genuine theological/canonical quandary.

In the last 24 hours, the media have scrutinized Notre Dame All-American linebacker Manti Te'o's life more completely than they did President Barack Obama's in the last eight years. And that is shameful -- on both counts. The crux of the Te'o story, of course, is whether Te'o conspired to fabricate his seemingly tragic relationship with imaginary girlfriend Lennay Kekua or whether he is a victim of a cruel hoax. Much is at stake -- or so we are told. If Te'o proves to be a willing participant in a hoax, NFL scouts will question his character and downgrade his stock in the upcoming NFL draft. For those who care, Deadspin has some excellent reporting on this story -- better reporting, in fact, than anyone in the major media has done on that other Hawaiian fabricator of girlfriends, Barack Obama. Although I and others in the blogosphere had made the case early on that the girlfriends Obama wrote about in his memoir Dreams from My Father were not real, the major media ran from the story. To see how far and fast they ran, please check out my AT articles on the subject: "What Does 'Composite Girl' Tell Us About Obama" and "Did Maraniss Commit Fraud to Protect Obama." The Deadspin reporters rightly chastise a "compliant press" for buying into "Notre Dame's mythmaking," but in the press's defense, who would think it necessary to vet a linebacker? There is no excuse for how our media have failed to vet the president.
