Tea party-backed candidate Christine O'Donnell upended nine-term Rep. Mike Castle in Delaware's Republican Senate primary on Tuesday. Castle was the latest establishment-backed candidate to stumble as the grass-roots movement displayed its political strength. Tea partiers can claim success in some eight Republican Senate contests, a handful of GOP governors' races and numerous House races. A snapshot of where the tea party movement made a mark in 2010:

If everyone who supports O'Donnel gives $25 each then I am sure we can raise a HUGE amount of cash for her, SHE may OVERWHELM them; and it almost certainly would end the talk of "SHE CAN'T WIN"! God Bless, -Jeremy http://christineodonnell2010.com/ By the way please spread the word, and ask everyone you know to do this TOO!

When a man in Lynchburg, Va. reached in his pocket to pay for dinner, he instead grabbed his pistol and accidentally shot himself. Wayne Meredith Latham, 56, ran out of the Waterstone Pizza restaurant in a panic after wounding himself on Saturday night. He was found by local police about a block away from the restaurant, and paramedics arrived and took him to a local hospital, the Lynchburg News & Advance reported. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released later that night. Although Latham has a concealed weapons permit, police arrested him on charges of recklessly handling a firearm,...

Newly minted GOP Senate nominee from Delaware Christine O’Donnell singled out former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for special thanks during her victory speech Tuesday evening. “You betcha!” an ebullient O’Donnell told cheering supporters, using a Palin catch phrase. “There’s another woman I’ve gotta thank, you betcha! When the cheering crowd subsided, O’Donnell continued: “Thank you governor Palin for your endorsement. Because she got behind us war-weary folks, and gave us a boost of encouragement when we needed it. “And she was a vote against the politics of personal destruction,” O’Donnell told the enthusiastic throng. On Sept. 9 a Palin post...

Sarah Palin’s candidate in the Republican primary on Staten Island, Michael Grimm, beat his challenger, Michael Allegretti, according to New York 1 News and the Daily News. Grimm, who was also backed by Rudy Giuliani, was a former FBI agent and Marine veteran. He was criticized for raising a lot of money outside the district, and not having lived there as long as Allegretti, whose family ran a local business on the Brooklyn side of the district. [...] Grimm will take on freshman Rep. Michael McMahon, a moderate Democrat who has the backing of the Conservative Party and who voted...

Two Evansville men were arrested early Tuesday morning after a police chase that stemmed from an altercation at an adult nightclub. Evansville police say one of the suspects fired a gun into the air while leaving the Busy Body Lounge on Columbia Street around 2 a.m. According to a police report, a dancer at the club claimed one of the men tried to give her two counterfeit $50 bills. An argument ensued and one of the suspects pointed a gun at the dancer and another person. Police say the suspect, Edward Ivy, then got into a black Chevy SUV with...

The protester who burned pages from the Koran outside a planned mosque near Ground Zero has been fired from NJTransit, sources and authorities said Tuesday. Derek Fenton's 11-year career at the agency came to an abrupt halt Monday after photographs of him ripping pages from the Muslim holy book and setting them ablaze appeared in newspapers.

Five Reasons O'Donnell Could Win —Ace 1. Coons could always self-implode. There is a small but nontrivial chance any politician will simply blow up. Odds are maybe 2% of that, but it's somethin'. 2. Coons isn't ideologically suited for Delaware himself. He's called a "bearded Marxist" -- he too may be too extreme for Delaware. Thus, we'd have a Republican too far to the right battling a Democrat too far to the left. Not great chances, but not an impossible longshot, either. 3. Coons may not be a great practical candidate, either. Mike Castle just wins elections -- until now...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 14, 2010 CONTACT: Levi Russell at (509) 979-6615 or via email at: Levi@FrontLineStrat.com The Tea Party Express issued the following statement in response to preliminary reports that the National Republican Senatorial Committee would not support their own nominee for U.S. Senate in Delaware: "The National Republican Senatorial Committee has reportedly said they will not support their own nominee for U.S. Senate in Delaware. This is a rash statement that hopefully they will reconsider once good judgment sets in. "The NRSC tried to meddle in the vote recount for liberal Republican Lisa Murkowski in Alaska. Now they...

If Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski attempts a write-in bid to keep her seat in the November election — and she will decide by Friday — her Senate GOP colleagues will not support it. Several Republican senators told The Hill this week they are backing primary winner Joe Miller, an attorney who shocked the political establishment with his Aug. 24 victory over Murkowski, 51 percent to 49. “I’m a big fan of Lisa’s, but I usually go with the primary winner,” said Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama. “I don’t think it’s a good idea for her,” said Sen. James Inhofe of...

Sept. 13, 1876 – Dr. James M. Haswell died after forty-one years of missionary service in Burma with his dear wife Jane Mason, who he had married on August 23, 1835, and sailed for their chosen field one month later. He was more fruit from the Hamilton Theological Institute in Bennington, Vermont. Dr.Haswell mastered the Burmese language and then turned to the Pegulan dialect to reach the 80,000 of that tribe. He only took two furloughs, one in 1849 and another in 1867, and those were used to spur interest in missions. He was most diligent that his son James...

Most of the reasonably well-informed Repubicans I know think the race for the Republican presidential nomination is wide-open. They see a field of high-profile candidates consisting potentially of Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, and Newt Gingrich, along with a few successful governors such as Tim Pawlenty, Mitch Daniels, Haley Barbour, Bobby Jindal, or Chris Christie. This sort of clash seems particularly intriguing because the potential candidates can be viewed as representing establishment/country club Republicans (Romney), evangelical Republicans (Huckabee), Tea Party Republicans (Palin), the spirit of 1994 (Gingrich), and good government Republicans (the governors). But, as I've suggested before, there's...

The path to a Republican Senate takeover narrowed to the point of vanishing Tuesday night, as marketing consultant Christine O’Donnell upset Rep. Mike Castle in Delaware’s Senate primary and likely dashed the GOP’s hopes of capturing the seat in the process. Though six other states and the District of Columbia voted in primary elections Tuesday night, the outcome in Delaware had by far the most profound implications for the fall campaign. While Castle was comfortably on track to capture Vice President Joe Biden’s former Senate seat, O’Donnell will enter the general election at a wide disadvantage to the presumptive Democratic...

In politics, what is the value of any Ivy League education? The answer this year might be: a certain ability to walk a very fine line. Consider that two of the Tea Party's most potent insurgents, Joe Miller in Alaska and Ken Buck in Colorado, possess Ivy League graduate degrees. The progressive left's most interesting bomb-thrower, Rep. Alan Grayson from Florida, has one too. Courting the energized wings of their parties and somehow making sure that middle-of-the-road folks aren't too put out requires a certain rhetorical and presentational sophistication. Buck, Miller, and Grayson have interview skills, spin skills, "wink wink,...

Businesswoman Michele Rollins (R) was supposed to coast to the Republican House nomination after clinching the backing of delegates at the state party's convention. But this cycle, the establishment's endorsement has marked political careers for death and Delaware has been no exception. Developer Glen Urquhart (R) remained in the primary race after Rollins got the May endorsement and his tenacity came close to being rewarded with victory on Tuesday. Only 552 votes separated Urquhart and Rollins, a former Miss USA-turned government attorney, with all 325 precincts reporting. A spokesman for Rollins said the campaign is considering its options, which may...
