When a man in Lynchburg, Va. reached in his pocket to pay for dinner, he instead grabbed his pistol and accidentally shot himself.
Wayne Meredith Latham, 56, ran out of the Waterstone Pizza restaurant in a panic after wounding himself on Saturday night.
He was found by local police about a block away from the restaurant, and paramedics arrived and took him to a local hospital, the Lynchburg News & Advance reported.
He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released later that night.
Although Latham has a concealed weapons permit, police arrested him on charges of recklessly handling a firearm, willfully discharging it in public and carrying a concealed gun after drinking alcohol.

Depending on the weapon, let’s say it’s an auto. 1. It has to be loaded. 2. It has to have a load in the breech. 3. The safety has to be off. 4. You have to pull the trigger.
All those things have to happen to properly discharge a weapon.

Article does not say if he had the gun in a pocket holster and whether he confused that with his wallet.
How on earth do you forget what’s what in your pockets?
Why would you drink while armed? Is the guy just asking to be sued?
I feel bad the guy shot himself but from a responsible gun owner’s perspective this guy is a dangerous idiot. He is extremely fortunate he did not shoot someone else accidentally. Extremely fortunate. As well as not hitting a major artery in his leg and possibly bleeding out.
