I was going back through some of my old postings to different threads and I found the live thread of day 2 of the DNC of 2004. This was the day that Obama was the keynote speaker. The comments start at post 1671 and go on through about 1950. Some of the comments I found to be surprising and some prophetic.

Senator Jim DeMint, R-SC, released a scathing critique Wednesday night of the healthcare plan released by Sen. Max Baucus, calling it a rehash that does nothing to "increase Americans' access to affordable healthcare coverage. What follows is DeMint's point-by-point critique: The chairman’s health care proposal (known as the "chairman's mark") that was released by Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., in advance of next week’s Finance Committee Markup is just more of the same big government policies that have been proposed by this Congress and this administration for months. The chairman’s rehashed proposal does nothing to increase Americans’ access to affordable health...

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., Sept. 16 (UPI) -- A Hofstra University freshman was raped by five men, one of them a student, after meeting one of her attackers at a fraternity party, police said. The 18-year-old student had just begun classes a few weeks ago at the university in Hempstead, Lt. John Allen of the Nassau County Police said. Allen said Jesus Ortiz, 19, of New York allegedly snatched her cell phone after they danced, and she followed him to the Estabrook Hall dormitory early Sunday to get it back, Newsday reported. “The cell phone was taken to lure her away from...

A vehicle getting 15 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 800 gallons a year of gasoline. A vehicle getting 25 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 480 gallons a year. So, the average Clunker transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year. They claim 700,000 vehicles – so that's 224 million gallons per year. That equates to saving a bit over 5 million barrels of oil per year. I repeat - per YEAR. 5 million barrels of oil is about ¼ of one day's U.S. consumption. And, 5 million barrels of oil costs about $350...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The number of newly laid-off workers seeking unemployment benefits likely rose last week, evidence that jobs remain scarce. Wall Street economists forecast that first-time claims for unemployment insurance rose to a seasonally-adjusted 555,000 last week from 550,000 the previous week, according to a survey by Thomson Reuters. The number of people remaining on the jobless benefit rolls also is expected to increase slightly, to 6.1 million from 6.09 million. The Labor Department report scheduled for Thursday comes even as the Federal Reserve said Wednesday that production by the nation's factories, mines and utilities increased for the second...

Posted by constitutionallyspeaking on September 17, 2009 Today is Constitution Day. It was on this day, September 17, 1787, that the Constitution emerged for the first time from the convention in Philadelphia, Pa. Our blessed Constitution that was written not by men of all the same political faction, however, a coalition of men of many political factions, working together to “Form A More Perfect Union” and it was up to ‘We the People” to ensure its long lasting existence. Fast forward 222 years…

Islamic countries distrust the United States under the leadership of President Obama about as much as they did under President George W. Bush. What's going on? Throughout the Bush presidency, opinion polling from the Pew Research Center trumpeted America’s “abysmal” approval ratings across the globe. The problem, pollsters suggested with numbing regularity, was that a “cowboy president” had inflamed the Muslim world—and America’s European allies—with his “unilateral” war on terrorism. The remedy, of course, was a new administration with a fresh approach: a president committed to multilateralism, smart diplomacy, and American soft power. Right on cue, a Pew report hailed...

“FBI raids Denver home in suspect Al-Qaeda plot: ABC” (AFP) – 1 hour ago WASHINGTON — SNIPPET: “About a dozen agents arrived at the home of Najibullah Zazi, 24, and one confirmed to ABC a search warrant was being executed. “Zazi’s travels to New York last weekend triggered a round of highly publicized raids in the New York area,” the ABC report said adding that “authorities told members of Congress the raids had helped to disrupt a plot to carry out a major attack on New York.” Authorities said they found 14 new black backpacks in the New York raids,...

ACORN, the new tip of the Cloward-Piven spear In 1970, one of George Wiley's protégés, Wade Rathke -- like Bill Ayers, a member of the radical Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) -- was sent to found the Arkansas Community Organizations for Reform Now. While NWRO had made a good start, it alone couldn't accomplish the Cloward-Piven goals. Rathke's group broadened the offensive to include a wide array of low income "rights." Shortly thereafter they changed "Arkansas" to "Association of" and ACORN went nationwide. Today ACORN is involved in a wide array of activities, including housing, voting rights, illegal immigration...

A class-action lawsuit recently filed by the undocumented employees of a local cleaning company underscores that workers who are in the country illegally have many of the same workplace rights that U.S. citizens have. That’s particularly important in Nevada because illegal immigrants make up an estimated 12.2 percent of the state’s workforce, according to a 2008 Pew Hispanic Center study. But the idea that undocumented workers have rights is also controversial. Members of the “What part of illegal don’t you understand?” lobby have consistently expressed indignation about workers in such cases receiving anything but a deportation order. Nevada Labor Commissioner...

Though official records are incomplete, it appears that the turnout in Tuesday’s Democratic primary was the lowest in modern New York City history. Despite pleasant weather and the efforts of candidates who crisscrossed the city for weeks, just 11 percent of enrolled Democrats went to the polls. The primary was also marked by a political anomaly: more people cast their ballots for public advocate and comptroller than for mayor.

Obama's entire life has been devoted to fomenting racial animus Dear Liberals, Please be advised that your Race Card account has been closed. This decision was based on your account history of excessive over-limit spending. Please destroy your card immediately as it will no longer be honored. Sincerely, The American People No president in history came to office with more political capital than Barack Obama. He squandered it like a lottery winner within a few months. If liberals had any sense of irony, they would appreciate the inanity of braying about racism right after America elected a black president. Obama’s...

Both presidents were vilified by those out of power, fueling the rise of manic countercultures. Lee Siegel on what Glenn Beck’s angry army has in common with hippies. Let’s all calm down. The Tea Party Express rally in Washington wasn’t the beginning of some political apocalypse that is going to plunge the country into civil war. If anything, its noisiness was inversely proportionate to its power—the ugly images and inflammatory rhetoric were burbles of helplessness. Without cable TV’s magnifications, the peaceful, even cautious, demonstration would have come and gone with barely a notice. Fundamentally, the gathering in the nation’s capital...

The message from President Obama to young people is clear: thank you for voting for me. Now PAY UP!!!!!The Washington Post today reported on how young people will be forced to pay a disproportionally high amount in health coverage if Obamacare is passed, stating that they could "wind up paying disproportionately hefty premiums -- effectively subsidizing coverage for their parents".As one commentator translated: "In other words, we’re going to require young people to get health insurance not so much because they need it, but because we need their money."Cato's Dan Griswold has detected a pattern: "Those same young workers will be forced to pay...

I wanted to post this thread to let everyone know that I am going to begin drafting a proposed Constitutional Amendment that will require the Supreme Court of the United States to certify all Congressional, Presidential, and Vice-Presidential candidates eligibility to hold office PRIOR TO ELECTION DAY. I have been inspired by what Hannah Giles and James O'Keefe have accomplished just by being active and involved. I have also been less than inspired in the lack of a formal legal process to certify our candidates, and even less inspired by the lack of recourse afforded to citizens by our federal...

SAN DIEGO – At least one Border Patrol agent shot the driver of a pickup as it tried to run over agents who were detaining two suspected illegal immigrants near the U.S.-Mexico border Wednesday evening, authorities said. The man driving the truck was later detained in the Nestor neighborhood and taken to a hospital for treatment, said supervisory Agent Daryl Reed, a Border Patrol spokesman. He did not know where or how many times the man was shot. About 6:30 p.m., agents were stopping two people at the entrance to Smuggler's Gulch near Monument Road in the Tijuana River Valley....

Back before my job contained some actual responsibility, there was the perpetual temptation (and I did give into it much of the time) to watch videos on YouTube. While there's nothing more annoying in life than some yay-hoo droning on about the dreaded neocons scrambling their brains, there are those special occasions where you will find something that is worth your time and effort. Anymore, the internet has become a classic sports network of its own, with people finding film of games from days gone by and even more recent games getting posted just after they occur. In this the...

Jimmy Carter strikes again! The former President is not content having left office with high inflation, high interest rates and high unemployment. Nor is he content with having signed into law the Community Reinvestment Act -- strengthened by President Bill Clinton -- which played a major role in the eventual housing market meltdown. Nor is he content with having cut the legs from under the Shah of Iran, which led to the establishment of the Islamic theocracy in Iran -- a state that pursues a nuclear weapon, funds the terror groups Hamas and Hezbollah, and continues to undermine the fledgling...
