Many gun-loving Americans are convinved that President Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress are bent on ripping rifles from their "cold, dead hands," as actor Charlton Heston once declared at a National Rifle Association meeting. But from the perspective of police departments – not to mention gunmakers – the Obama administration may go down as one of the most gun-friendly in history. Across America, police departments are using the taxpayer-funded stimulus bill to boost their arsenals with shotguns, handguns, and assault rifles. Among the general public, a record 1 million guns were sold across the United States in August alone, rebuffing...

Statement from Bertha Lewis, Chief Organizer, ACORN Regarding Recent News Reports September 12, 2009 The relentless attacks on ACORN's members, its staff and the policies and positions we promote are unprecedented. An international entertainment conglomerate, disguising itself as a "news" agency (Fox), has expended millions, if not tens of millions of dollars, in their attempt to destroy the largest community organization of Black, Latino, poor and working class people in the country. It is not coincidence that the most recent attacks have been launched just when health care reform is gaining traction. It is clear they've had these tapes for...

As the recession and bailout have pushed this year's federal budget deficit to an unheard-of $1.6 trillion, an unpleasant reality has dawned: Taxes are going up. The only questions are when, how much, and for whom? The answers depend on the shifting sands of wealth politics and the scope of health-care revision. "But everybody thinks that by 2011 tax rates will be higher, at least for those with higher incomes," says Thomas Ochsenschlager, a tax official at the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

I figured since I had two questions, I'd combine them into one thread to make my referencing simpler and one less for everyone to look at. :) How does one truly know if a site that sells heirloom seeds is REALLY selling heirloom seeds? That's my 'caveat emptor' question. Secondly, I'm needing a cleaning kit for my carbine, but the non-specialty stores seem to have just American standard caliber kits. IIRC, isn't .308 the same as 7.62mm in diameter? Thanks for your help!

On Thursday, two ACORN officials in Baltimore were fired for offering to help a man and woman posing as a pimp and prostitute to engage in child prostitution and a series of tax crimes. On Friday, after another secretly shot videotape surfaced showing the same couple getting similar advice from ACORN officers in Washington, the officers were also fired. In light of these developments do you feel the Justice Department should launch a full investigation into the group's dealings and leadership?

I can’t make it to Washington DC today for the national 9/12 march, but I’m with all the marchers in spirit. It’s been an unprecedented year for limited government activism. It would never have been possible without the early initiative of grass-roots leaders in the #tcot community on Twitter, Smart Girl Politics #DontGo — and concerned moms like Keli Carender and Amanda Grosserode who stood up in their communities against reckless spending in Washington before anyone was listening. Before the cable news was paying attention. Before it became fashionable for politicians to latch on.

Many in the Right have taken note of Barack Hussein Obama's repeated shafts at Rightist commentators who've accurately characterized his attempt to nationalize American medical care. We're "liars," "fabricators," and "divisive voices." We're adamantly opposed to "reform." We must have evil motives, for why else would anyone stand athwart something so compassionate as health insurance for all? Though he seldom mentions them by name, it could not be clearer that Obama's two principal nemeses are Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Heath Palin. His diatribes are aimed too directly at the points they've made and the phrasings they've used to support any...

The UK continues to provide us with a vivid and terrifying education about the dangers of health care rationing. The UK”s central planners have urged that doctors make no efforts to save prematurely born babies under 22 weeks. This don’t treat decree (because that is what “guidelines” become in practice) is based on evidence measuring overall outcomes. Almost all such babies either die or have very serious disabilities (or to put it bluntly, if they live, their lives are deemed not worth living). What this means, is that members of categories are not treated like individuals and rendered care in...

President Obama has promised to pay for health care reform mostly by ridding the system of wasteful spending. The message is that reform will be painless: We're cutting the fat, not the meat. But what if your paycheck is part of the fat? More to the point: Does cutting back on wasteful health care spending mean that doctors will make less money? Actually, let's split that question in two. The first is whether U.S. doctors are overpaid. The second is whether paying them less would save all that much. The answers, respectively: yes and no. There's no question that doctors...

DeMint Calls Out Obama and Congress: ‘Americans Are Awake, They’re Informed, And They’re Outraged’ Saturday, September 12, 2009 By Terence P. Jeffrey, Editor-in-Chief (CNSNews.com) - Speaking before a massive crowd of cheering protestors attending the “Taxpayer March on Washington” at the West front of the U.S. Capitol today, Sen. Jim DeMint (R.-S.C.) issued a challenge to President Barack Obama and Congress. “I think you all know that the president has warned us that if we disagree with him, he is going to call us out,” said DeMint. “Okay, Mr. President, we are out. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Waterloo.” DeMint...

The next 100 years George Friedman Published 27 August 2009 Japan and Turkey form an alliance to attack the US. Poland becomes America’s closest ally. Mexico makes a bid for global supremacy, and a third world war takes place in space. Sounds strange? It could all happen. . . In 1492, Columbus sailed west. In 1991, the Soviet Union collapsed. These two events bracketed the European age. Once, Mayans lived unaware that there were Mongols, who were unaware there were Zulus. From the 15th century onwards, European powers collectively overwhelmed the world, creating the first truly global geopolitical system in...

Two sources with knowledge of the situation told the Tribune today they have been notified that Christopher Kelly, a key figure in the federal corruption probe into former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, is dead. The Cook County medical examiner’s office today confirmed that a body identified as Christopher Kelly was brought to the morgue from Stroger Hospital. The office would not provide any details, including his age, address and manner of death, because the family had not yet arrived at the office. Kelly’s attorney, Michael Monico, declined to comment today when reached by a Tribune reporter. Kelly is a former confidant...

A new Treasury Department study reports that most Americans don't have health insurance at some point in a 10-year span. The raging debate over healthcare continued Saturday with the two major political antagonists trumpeting their arguments for and against changes in policy that could impact every American. That would be President Obama and — no, not Congressman Joe “You Lie!” Wilson — conservative broadcast dynamo Glenn Beck. On his Saturday morning radio and YouTube broadcast, Obama spoke of “an anxiety that’s keeping more and more Americans awake at night.” “Over the last twelve months, nearly six million more Americans lost their...

The recession has slashed families' earnings, increased poverty and left more people without health insurance, according to the Census Bureau's annual snapshot of living standards. The report Thursday offered sharp evidence of how much the falling economy has touched Americans across incomes and races. Median household income, adjusted for inflation, fell 3.6% last year to $50,303, the steepest year-over-year drop in forty years. The poverty rate, at 13.2%, was the highest since 1997. About 700,000 more people didn't have health insurance in 2008 than the year before, though the share of the population without coverage was about the same. "There's...
