Van Jones,... is, or at least was, a self-professed communist. He also had ties to an organization called Standing Together To Organize a Revolutionary Movement, a communist group that considered Mao Zedong as its ideological leader. It formed Workers Organized To Rid Us of Capitalism. Jones also advocated on behalf of death row inmate Jumia Abu-Jamal, convicted of killing a Philadelphia police officer. I would think the president would think twice about appointing someone with that kind of history. Now Jones has resigned, claiming he was brought down by a smear campaign. He gave the infamous nonapology apology, saying that...

****** The conventional wisdom after the fall of the Taleban was that tracking bin Laden down would not make much of a difference to the larger War on Terror. At a March 2002 press conference, President Bush referred to bin Laden as “a person who’s now been marginalised”. In 2005 the CIA even closed “Alec Station”, its dedicated bin Laden unit that had been given the mission of hunting al-Qaeda’s top leaders, and reassigned its analysts and officers to other counterterrorism missions. Senior CIA officials believed that al-Qaeda was no longer the hierarchical organisation it once had been. Although it...

Liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org is jumping on the Rob Miller fundraising bandwagon, 36 hours after Miller's 2010 opponent, Rep. Joe Wilson, yelled "You lie!" at President Obama. Miller, a Democrat working on a rematch, has raised more than $750,000 since then, and MoveOn.org sent an e-mail to supporters Friday asking them to help put the challenger campaign over the $1 million mark. A spokesman for Wilson says he's had a post-ouburst fundraising boost as well, that has topped $700,000. Wilson posted a video on his campaign Web site, where he also describes himself as sorry only up to a point:...

If there was an underlying theme to Barack Obama’s healthcare speech on Wednesday night, it was his ambition to become a historic president. Doubtless most presidents imagine their likeness on Mount Rushmore. Few are revealing it as clearly as Mr Obama. The immediate goal of Mr Obama’s speech was to put healthcare reform back on track after weeks of mangling by the carnivorous wing of America’s conservative movement. Mr Obama made sharp work in calling out their “bogus claims” – such as the so-called “death panels”. The next few weeks will show whether his speech to Congress helped draw some...

have to tip my hat to James O'Keefe, Andrew Breitbart, and the folks at Big Government. Not only is this brand new site and relatively new journalist breaking huge news, but they are also showing the entire media and business world text book marketing and journalism. When they broke the video yesterday, they never let on that there was more. Furthermore, we had ACORN proclaiming that the two investigators went to a plethora of sites before finding the one in Baltimore which was rotten. Never did they let on that in fact what they had was only the beginning. So,...

And believe it or not, that number’s “better than anticipated.” Much like how it’s “better than anticipated” that we’re “only” losing 200,000 jobs a month these days, after we were assured back in February that the stimulus would cap unemployment at eight percent. The government in August took in $145 billion in receipts, but $256 billion in outlays led to an overall monthly deficit of $111 billion. That number is better than anticipated — most expectations were that the government had added $162 billion to its tab last month. The record deficit stems from increased government spending to stop the...

Senator Michael Bennet finds himself in a toss-up with two potential Republican challengers, Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck and Aurora City Councilman Ryan Frazier. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds Bennet ahead of Buck 43% to 37%. With Frazier as the opponent, Bennet is essentially even... Any incumbent who polls less than 50% is considered potentially vulnerable. Polling released earlier showed that the Colorado Governor’s race is also potentially competitive in 2010.

Ten people have been arrested during a demonstration outside a mosque in north-west London where an anti-Islamic protest was planned. At least 1,000 people gathered outside Harrow Central Mosque as activists from Stop Islamification of Europe planned to demonstrate outside the mosque. Unite Against Fascism were also present to "defend the mosque", they said. Bricks, bottles and firecrackers were thrown at police officers who were present in riot gear at the scene. Just after 2000 BST, police said there were a small number of people in the area. Mobile patrols were continuing in a bid to reassure residents. What played...

NOVO-OGARYOVO, Russia (Reuters) – Russia's Vladimir Putin on Friday gave his strongest indication yet that he may run again for the presidency at the next election in 2012. Ever since Putin's presidential term expired last year and he made way for his chosen successor Dmitry Medvedev, there has been speculation the move was only temporary. Putin, now serving as prime minister, remains extremely popular among Russian voters despite the economic downturn and he continues to dominate the political scene. Speaking to the Valdai discussion group of Russia experts, Putin said the transition at the top in 2007/8 had been a...

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: President Obama was in New York earlier this week to memorialize Walter Cronkite, but just a few days later President Obama did not come to New York to memorialize what happened at the Twin Towers eight years ago today, nor did he send Biden to New York to memorialize Cronkite, but he did send Biden to memorialize 9/11. But he did not. Now, there's a lot to get to today and I'm gonna get to the ACORN stuff, those two people allegedly fired. CNN says "allegedly engaged in alleged illegal acts," they've been fired. I want to...

A U.S. District Court hearing to determine if a Army captain fighting deployment to Afghanistan because of the challenged the legitimacy of Barack Obama’s presidency was rescheduled for Monday. Capt. Connie Rhodes filed the complaint last week and Judge Clay Land granted an emergency hearing Friday afternoon in the Columbus federal courthouse. Rhodes, a medical doctor who was with her unit in Fort Riley, Kan., did not attend the hearing. That prompted Land to reschedule it for noon Monday. Rhodes is scheduled to arrive at Fort Benning Saturday and deploy within seven days. Rhodes’ attorney Orly Taitz — a national...

I was born into the WWII and learned to understand people lime Hitler, Lenin and Mao who were walking the earth at the time. After the war our attention was focused upon the communists and their threat to us. The country was very concerned for its safety given the risk imposed by the USSR on a daily basis. At the age of nine I made a personal oath with myself to fight communism with all my ability. I was not alone in this type of commitment; many of my young friends felt as I did. At eighteen I joined the...

On Sept. 11, 1297, in a rare but important military victory for Scotland, clans under William Wallace defeated a large English force at the Battle of Stirling Bridge northeast of Glasgow. In 1777 American forces under Gen. George Washington were defeated by the British in the Battle of Brandywine near Wilmington, Del. In 1841 all but one member of President John Tyler's Cabinet resigned to protest Tyler's veto of a banking bill. (Only Secretary of State Daniel Webster remained.) In 1918 the Cubs lost the World Series to the Boston Red Sox. In 1962 the Beatles recorded their first single...
