President Barack Obama has met at the White House with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, the deputy supreme commander of the United Arab Emirates armed forces, the White House said. The two "discussed ways to deepen the strong political, security and economic relationship" between the United States and the UAE, as well as ways to "bolster regional security, and advance Israeli-Arab peace efforts," the White House said in a statement on Thursday.

WASHINGTON -- The uproar over former White House adviser Van Jones has heightened attention on the ranks of nonconfirmed policy "czars" within the Obama administration. The use of special White House advisers and the czar moniker itself go back decades, but government watchers say President Barack Obama has appointed an unusual number of senior coordinators, especially for a president so early in his administration. They have responsibilities ranging from health care and climate change to Afghanistan and the auto sector. Some Republicans, fanned by conservative commentators' warnings that these advisers constitute a shadow government, have seized on the czar issue...

Foreign porn companies refile suit against Korean netizens By Kim Eun-jung SEOUL, Sept. 11 (Yonhap) -- A group of U.S. and Japanese porn companies will refile a lawsuit from next week against South Korean uploaders, their legal representative here said Friday, accusing the country of holding a double standard in investigating copyright violations of local and foreign material. Some 50 foreign firms sued 10,000 Korean Internet users in July for uploading their adult materials onto local Web sites, but prosecutors limited their investigation to those confirmed to have uploaded content more than three times. Only 10 were punished. The porn...

Quick background: I found this while searching for events that happened on September 9 (we just had 09/09/09). A Web site mistakenly lists this disaster as happening on September 9, 1963; actually it happened October 9, 1963. Hadn't heard of it before, but it's listed as one of the top engineering disasters in history. The Vajont (Vaiont) Landslide The site linked in the header provides small snapshots of the whole area. Two examples: Here's an annotated picture that helps put it in context. Here's a picture of the immediate aftermath: To really get this in perspective, though, use Google Maps....

Most parents have experienced their young children getting restless when waiting for a meal in a restaurant. But not many get the bill at the end of it with a message describing their offspring as a 'little f*****'. This is what happened to parents Craig and Kimberley Cartin at a Mexican restaurant in Halifax, West Yorkshire, where they received the receipt which had 'Thankyyou littell f*****' written on it. Visiting the brand new eaterie, called Cactus Joe's, on its opening weekend the family had already been frustrated by slow service and poor food, which caused hungry two-year-old Molly to complain....

My husband, Rick Rescorla, was one of the 3,000 Americans murdered by terrorists on 9/11/01. Rick was Vice President of Security for Morgan-Stanley/Dean-Witter, the largest tenant in the World Trade Center. His heroic actions on the day of the attack, along with his extraordinary foresight and preparation, saved the lives of 2,700 people. His story has been told on television and radio - in newspapers and magazines - and in the book Heart Of A Soldier, by Pulitzer Prize winner James B. Stewart. Rick is also on the cover of another book, We Were Soldiers Once... And Young, written by...

List of those lost on 9/11/01Bush's 9/11 speech Transscript of Bush's 9/20/01 speech (From American Rhetoric "Mr. Speaker, Mr. President Pro Tempore, members of Congress, and fellow Americans: In the normal course of events, Presidents come to this chamber to report on the state of the Union. Tonight, no such report is needed. It has already been delivered by the American people. We have seen it in the courage of passengers, who rushed terrorists to save others on the ground -- passengers like an exceptional man named Todd Beamer. And would you please help me to welcome his wife, Lisa...

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: I have been asked if we got sound bites of McCain this morning on the Today Show. Let me quickly look here at it sound bite roster. I don't believe so. Let's see. We don't have any McCain. What did McCain say on the Today Show? What did he say? Hmm? Hmm? Hm-hm. Hm-hm. He threw Palin under the bus? Well, that's because Obama gave him a big compliment last night. McCain was out there giving a thumbs up. Marty in Virginia Beach, you're next on the EIB Network. Hi. CALLER: Hi. I just talked to Orly: She has 2 good news items that she is very busy with right now: 1. Judge Carter is ‘giving her expedited discovery - immediately’. 2. Judge Land will allow her to present before the court in GA. She is leaving now to fly to GA to appear before Judge Land at the Federal Building in Columbus, GA at 2:00 pm tomorrow (Friday, 9/11/09). She would like as many military supporters to be there as possible. I called Carl Swensson (RiseUpForAmerica.com), and he will see what he can do. If you have any contacts there, please...

NEW YORK – A government that is constitutionally required to offer each citizen a "useful" job in the farms or industries of the nation. A country whose leadership intercedes to ensure every farmer can sell his product for a good return. A nation that has the power to act against "unfair competition" and monopolies in business. This is not a description of Cuba, communist China, or the USSR until 1991. It's the vision of the future of the U.S, as mandated by a radical new "bill of rights" drawn up and pushed by President Obama's newly confirmed regulatory czar, Cass...

Let's get the obvious out of the way. Congressman Joe Wilson should not have blurted out "liar" during President Obama's speech last night. It was rude, inappropriate, and a total break in protocol. In fact, Congressman Wilson has said as much and he apologized. The president accepted. That should be the end of it. After all, as rude as it was, Mr. Wilson is not the first to interrupt someone's speech rudely.

Here is video of Karl Rove tonight talking with Greta Van Susteren and saying he believes Obama's Health Care Speech shows Obama has chosen a "Democrat only" strategy in which he will ram through a Health Care bill with 50 votes in the Senate, with Vice-President Joe Biden as the deciding vote. Rove said others did not take Obama's words that way, but he does. Rove also talked at length with Greta about the possible ramifications of Obama ramming a bill through Congress using the "Nuclear Option." . . . . (VIDEO)

This image adorned the front page of the Colorado Springs Independent "newspaper" today. Evidently, it is racist and hateful to portray President Obama as The Joker, but perfectly acceptable to portray Glenn Beck as the same fictional character. I have written often of the illogical nature of subjective morality, but this offers another illustration (pardon the pun) of how it is used to rationalize impropriety as propriety. The editor and author, Anthony Lane, undoubtedly decided that because it was done to Obama they were justified to do it to Beck. Similar arguments abound in the liberal mind. Just today I...

The White House announced today that President Obama will deliver a "major speech" (yes, another one) on the country's current financial situation next Monday, September 14, at Federal Hall in New York--coincidentally, the one-year anniversary of the collapse of Lehman Brothers. The White House says the president will "discuss the aggressive steps the administration has taken to bring the economy back from the brink, the commitment to winding down the government's role in the financial sector and the actions the United States and the global community must take to prevent a crisis like this from ever happening again." I'm beginning...

Despite a lack of precedent or applicable law, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce wants a hearing to make the EPA provide evidence that climate change endangers Americans. ___ The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, seeking to make monkeys of the legions of scientists who have suggested that climate change is a significant problem, wants to put them on trial. Specifically, it wants the Environmental Protection Agency to stage a “Scopes monkey trial” for the 21st century, appointing a judge to hear evidence on the question of whether global warming endangers Americans' health. It's an intriguing idea. Congress is considering legislation aimed...

(A spiritual analogy of the horrific events of 9-11 and its parallels of the Day of the Lord) “9-11” will always be remembered as one of the most horrific and catastrophic events ever in U.S. history. It was almost beyond belief that such a series of horrific events actually happened in the United States of America. America was completely and totally caught off guard. No one, seemingly, could ever imagine that such a day could have taken place here on U.S. soil. The events that followed were beyond anyone’s conception. What transpired on that September 11th morning came as a...

Juice extracted from North American lowbush blueberries, biotransformed with bacteria from the skin of the fruit, holds great promise as an anti-obesity and anti-diabetic agent. The study, published in the International Journal of Obesity, was conducted by researchers from the Université de Montréal, the Institut Armand-Frappier and the Université de Moncton who tested the effects of biotransformed juices compared to regular blueberry drinks on mice. "Results of this study clearly show that biotransformed blueberry juice has strong anti-obesity and anti-diabetic potential," says senior author Pierre S. Haddad, a pharmacology professor at the Université de Montréal's Faculty of Medicine. "Biotransformed blueberry...
