Global warming on trial?
Los Angeles Times ^ | August 26, 2009 | Editorial

Despite a lack of precedent or applicable law, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce wants a hearing to make the EPA provide evidence that climate change endangers Americans. ___ The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, seeking to make monkeys of the legions of scientists who have suggested that climate change is a significant problem, wants to put them on trial. Specifically, it wants the Environmental Protection Agency to stage a “Scopes monkey trial” for the 21st century, appointing a judge to hear evidence on the question of whether global warming endangers Americans' health.

It's an intriguing idea. Congress is considering legislation aimed at fighting climate change that would force the country to reinvent its entire energy infrastructure. Separately, the EPA is weighing an “endangerment finding” that would authorize the agency to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. Thus the federal government may be embarking on a very expensive course -- all to head off a threat that many Americans don't understand or don't believe to be a threat at all. Wouldn't it be great if we could just stage a big trial, weigh the evidence and decide whether any of this makes sense? Maybe we could even get Judge Judy to preside.

Points the EPA MUST adequately explain:
- Why is Carbon Dioxide considered a Pollutant? Don’t plants need it? Aren’t greenhouses that INCREASE the CO2 prone to better crop yields and healthier crops?
- If this is the case [global warming] then is it part of a cycle? Wouldn’t Global Warming increase the available amount of farmland as the arctic regions shrink?

Being Ginsburg, Breyer and, no doubt, Sotomayor believe in international court rulings so damn much the Chamber should sue on 1st Amendment grounds--"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,..."

GW has been officially ruled a religion. (9.9.09)
In the first case of its kind, an employment tribunal decided that Nicholson, 41, had views amounting to a "philosophical belief in climate change", allowing him the same legal protection against discrimination as religious beliefs.

And why would CO2 be implicated as the cause of global warming when ice core evidence of past correlations shows that global warming preceded atmospheric CO2 increases by some 800 years?

It needs to be done in a NOVA like way. A documentary with really great graphics & demos. 2 hours max. Nothing about the economy. Just a special on carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases because the premise of their whole argument is that human activity emitting carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases causes “global warming” or “climate change.” Refute that premise. People are not stupid.
