I support Rep Joe Wilson's comment of calling Obama a liar. I'll stand by Wilson any day. It is time for us to stop listening to the lies of Feinstein, Pelosi, Reid and Obama and all of their Czars. I am sick of the communists who infest the halls of my Congress. I want them all voted out of my house. You go Joe!!!! I have been under the political suppression of Feinstein for too many years. To make matters worse her cronies Pelosi and Boxer also come from the same neighborhood here in California. Not all of us out...

If people think the health-care debate has been contentious, just wait until the Senate takes up cap-and-trade. That wait may be longer than first thought, as Democrats in the Senate have less unanimity on the climate-change legislation than on ObamaCare. After a bruising summer of Democratic discontent, Dick Durbin (D-IL), Harry Reid’s chief lieutenant, feels no rush to start an argument that will further fracture the party:

While Orwell’s ‘1984′ & Huxley’s ‘Brave New World’ tend to corner the market when it comes to predicted dystopian societies, Anthony Burgess offered his own dystopian masterpiece in the form of 1962’s ‘The Wanting Seed’. It foresaw a culture that dealt with overpopulation by enforcing contraception, encouraging Self-sterilization and homosexuality. Overpopulation concerns from the left, have been floating around since the publication of Paul R. Ehrlich’s ‘The Population Bomb’ in 1968. The book was famous in exaggerating the future ramifications of excessive famine due to ‘overpopulation’. Most particularly, Ehrlich claimed, “In the 1970s and 1980s hundreds of millions of people...

Back to web version Thursday, Sep 10, 2009 Posted on Wed, Sep. 09, 2009 Big beer, big movies: Both fall flat By ROBERT W. BUTLERThe Kansas City Star The other day I watched the new documentary “Beer Wars” because … well, because it has the word “beer” in the title. But Anat Baron’s film (she was one of the founders of Boston Beer Co., makers of the Sam Adams line) ended up making me think about movies.Bear with me. (I almost wrote “beer with me,” but I retain a smidgen of self-respect.)“Beer Wars” (you can pick up a DVD at...

American officials said Thursday that Iran's latest proposal for talks with the West falls well short of satisfying international demands that it detail its nuclear program. With a U.S.-imposed September deadline for Iran looming, the officials said the Obama administration remains open to talks and held out hope that Iranian officials might signal a similar interest by the time world leaders meet later this month at the U.N. General Assembly. President Barack Obama warned the fundamentalist Iranian regime earlier this year that the U.S. wanted to see a positive response to its overtures by the end of September. If not,...

Madoff coached a potential witness on how to fool regulators, according to a '05 phone call made public by Mass. Secy of State William Galvin. Madoff preps his employee, "Obviously, this call never took place." Asked what to say if the SEC asks how shares of a trade are distributed, Madoff says: "You don't have to be too brilliant with these guys; you're not supposed to have that knowledge." Madoff highlighted how investigators develop cozy relationships with firms they are supposed to regulate. "These guys....ask us a zillion questions, and we laugh. "They work five years at the SEC then...

Virginia’s got a $100 billion backlog of highway construction projects and a decades-high 7.3 percent (and rising) unemployment rate, but what are its two gubernatorial candidates sparring over less than two months before Election Day? Abortion, the role of women in society and the nature of sin, of course. Trailing in the polls, Democratic state Sen. Creigh Deeds has spent the past month sniping at his Republican opponent, former Attorney General Bob McDonnell. First it was about abortion. Deeds has conducted a series of public events to highlight his contention that McDonnell’s anti-abortion views are outside the Virginia mainstream. Now...

FISHERS, Ind. -- A dispute over the grading scale in the Hamilton Southeastern school district has parents concerned that their children's chances of getting into college will be hurt. Parent Lisa Woolsey said her son wanted to go to Indiana University but couldn't because it takes a 95 percent score to get an A, 6News' Dan Spehler reported. "His grades are good, they're just not on this scale; they don't look as good as they really are," Woolsey said. "We have an awesome school district, but the grading scale we're asking our children to live up to is hurting them...

Republican Andrew H. Card Jr., who was a chief of staff under former president George W. Bush, said last night that he would probably run for the seat left vacant by the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy, prompting another prospective candidate, state Senator Scott Brown, to rule out a bid if Card entered. Card, who served four terms as a state representative for Holbrook before taking a succession of jobs in Washington, told the News Service the chances were “much better than 50 percent that I will find a way to say yes.’’ He said he would probably make a...

A freeze in consumer spending, abysmal same-store sales, and a swath of retail bankruptcies have taken a serious toll on your local mall. Nationwide, mall vacancy rates hover at 8.4%, their highest level since commercial real estate research firm REIS started collecting the data almost a decade ago. To keep their storefronts full, mall operators are starting to get creative when it comes to their definition of a tenant.

President Obama began his speech tonight by noting that liberals have been trying to foist “comprehensive health reform” on this nation for nearly seven decades. (He did not use these exact words.) These decades of failure have not led liberals to reconsider their basic assumptions about the proper role of government in American health care. It was thus overly optimistic to expect a few difficult months to make Obama rethink his health-care initiative. Neither the government-heavy substance nor the dishonest and demagogic tactics have changed. The president denounced “scare tactics” — in a speech that warned that failure to go...

Who would’ve said that at when I finished reading N.T.Wright’s Who Was Jesus? my most of the academic paradigms I used to guide my reading and understanding of the New Testament were to shift so drastically to the side of historicism. Yet, that’s exactly what happened. It’s not that I didn’t know there was something seriously amiss, incomplete, selective, and ultimately seriously wrong with some of the tools I’ve been told to trust, but that I didn’t know how to construct a convincing, rational counterargument to those who diminish the historical value and accuracy of the New Testament. That was...
