Just the same retread rhetoric and partisan attack politics we've seen from Obama from the beginning!Full text of the speech here. Highlight of the evening: My Congressman, Joe Wilson (R-SC) shouts "LIE" when Obama insists that illegal aliens won't be covered under the Dem plan! Way to go Joe! [video] What particularly strikes me about the speech is that it was almost 100% rhetoric we have heard before. A speech that was hyped to the hilt for the last 24 hours yet sounded like a rerun. At the time of year when most people are tired of reruns and looking...

A very large and important find of a hoard of Roman coins was recently discovered by a novice metal detector user in the Shrewsbury area. This is probably one of the largest coin hoards ever discovered in Shropshire. The finder, Mr Nic. Davies, bought his first metal detector a month ago and this is his first find made with it. The hoard was discovered close to a public bridleway on land that Mr Davies did not have permission to detect on. All land is owned by someone and it is important that permission to search is obtained in advance. The...

The community organizing group ACORN is once again at the center of controversy, this time with the release of a videotape showing officials helping two people posing as a pimp and a prostitute set up a brothel and deceive the IRS by claiming underage girls from South America as dependents. The tape, along with a transcript, was released by a new political blog launched today by Andrew Breitbart, BigGovernment.com. The undercover operation in Baltimore, the work of independent filmmaker James O'Keefe, can be seen here in two parts:

Molecular biologist Michael Behe described a system made of several interacting parts, whereby the removal of one part would disrupt the functioning of the whole, as being irreducibly complex. Both creation scientists and intelligent design proponents highlight examples of irreducible complexity in their studies, because they argue against evolutionary hypotheses. The very structure of these systems—with their interdependent parts working all together or not at all—demands a non-Darwinian, non-chance, non-piecemeal origin. A team of evolutionary molecular biologists thinks it may have refuted this concept of irreducible complexity. In a recent study, the researchers focused on a specific cellular machine involved...

Ok. this is a total vanity but a few observations on last nights speech. 1. My favorite analysis of last night - Steve Hayes, said Obama didn't overcome his chief obstacle: "the common sense of the American people!" 2. I thought his speech was uninspiring, insipid, and mean. And just plain stupid. To me, it was almost painful to watch a la Michael Scott on The Office. 3. If you believe he can increase coverage and add people and make up the cost by "eliminating waste and abuse" - then what can I say to you? 4.This whole Joe Wilson...

"Letting Lehman fail was perhaps the only thing governments have done right during this whole drama,". Rogers argues that the government's actions to rescue Long Term Capital Management ten years ago created systemic risk based on the assumption that the government would ride to the rescue. "Had the central bank allowed the failure of Long Term Capital Management to run its course, Lehman, Bear Stearns, et al would still be here,"

Couples should consider sleeping apart for the good of their health and relationship, say experts. Sleep specialist Dr Neil Stanley told the British Science Festival how bed sharing can cause rows over snoring and duvet-hogging and robs precious sleep. One study found that, on average, couples suffered 50% more sleep disturbances if they shared a bed. Dr Stanley, who sleeps separately from his wife, points out that historically we were never meant to share our beds. He said the modern tradition of the marital bed only began with the industrial revolution, when people moving to overcrowded towns and cities found...

Holly Hackett (name changed to protect her privacy), a member of HSLDA in northern West Virginia, homeschooled her daughter several years ago. Although her daughter made enough progress to satisfy state law, a local official pressured her into putting her daughter back into public school. After several years in public school, and with middle school looming, Holly decided to homeschool her daughter again. She filed a proper notice of intent. But she received a letter from the local superintendent saying: “As you will recall, I denied your homeschooling request for the 2005–2006 school year due to the fact that your...

The party was a rare night out. Raised in a devout, Christian family in Reading, Berks, I was more used to going to choir practice than clubs with friends. (snip-she was drugged) Coming from such a Christian family, I've never believed in abortion, but suddenly finding myself pregnant with a rapist's baby, I looked at it differently. After seeking counselling, I decided to go ahead with the termination. As I walked down the corridor in a hospital gown to the operating theatre, I asked myself over and over: 'Am I doing the right thing?' Suddenly, I was overcome by a...

"Oh, The humanity!" During President Obama's speech last night, Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) shouted out "You lie!" when the President asserted that no illegal aliens would be covered by Obama's health care reform proposal. Although Representative Wilson immediately apologized for his outburst...even calling the White House to apologize directly to the President (I mean a genuine apology, not one of those non-apology apologies that Democrats make after they misbehave)...Democrats and liberals have taken great pains to demonstrate the humbrage at such an assault on the decorum of Congress and such a show of disrespect towards the President
