The Treasury Department formally lifted nearly all U.S. restrictions on family travel to Cuba on Thursday, along with limits on how much money families can send to relatives on the island. The department also eased regulations prohibiting U.S. telecommunications and satellite linkages between the United States and Cuba and licensing requirements for visitors engaged in agricultural and medical sales. The amendments expanded the definition of "close relatives" -- previously limited to parents, spouses and children -- and said there would be "no limits" on the frequency or duration of their visits to Cuba. Virtually all restrictions on money sent to...

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has begun a homicide inquiry looking for the person or people responsible for the wildfire, which continues to burn. The blaze, known as the Station Fire, has burned for over a week in the Angeles National Forest outside Los Angeles. After a forensic investigation, officials with the U.S. Forest Service determined on Thursday that the fire...

A BACK-TO-SCHOOL speech planned by Barack Obama has turned into an ideological battlefield, as conservative parents claim the US President wants to indoctrinate their children. Schools from districts in six US states have refused to show students the televised speech planned for Tuesday, after complaints from parents that Mr Obama wants to spread his "socialist agenda". The protests appear to have left the White House wrong-footed, forcing the revision of an accompanying lesson that had asked students to "write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the President". It had been hoped Mr Obama's address - about...

The Radicalization of Obama's 'Green Czar' Van Jones was arrested in San Francisco in 1992 for participating in a demonstration following the acquittal of four LA police officers accused of beating Rodney King. FOXNews.com Friday, September 04, 2009 The political radicalization of Van Jones, President Obama's "green jobs" adviser, dates back to 1992, when he and hundreds of others took their anger to the streets of San Francisco in the infamous Rodney King protests. Jones, a Yale Law School student who was working in the Bay Area as an intern, was part of a mob that stormed the city following...

Thanks to a highly publicized UFO sighting in 1965, Exeter is known as the "UFO Capital of New England." Should we believe in UFOs, or are they just nonsense? The idea of "belief" shouldn't really be part of the question. A UFO, after all, is an "Unidentified Flying Object" — "unidentified" being the operative word. It's when we begin to interpret what the object is that we get into trouble. As soon as it's called an alien spacecraft it becomes an "Identified Flying Object," then you have to start talking about "belief." And in spite of all the sightings and...

'Oooh. Van Jones, alright!' [Victor Davis Hanson] Ah, the Dividends of a Yale Law degree: The problems with Van “change the system” Jones are not just his serial slurs against much of American society (“an apartheid regime”) as we know it (e.g., capitalism, the coal industry, American farming, the white population, the Bush administration (for causing 9/11), the Republican “***holes”, etc. — but that he simply cannot tell the truth about his own history, in disavowing almost everything he has said, written, or signed in the recent past. (His involvement with the 9/11 “Bush did it” lunacy has a heritage...

Ex-speaker of Florida House addresses Lakeland Republicans. BY BILL RUFTY LAKELAND - If Marco Rubio's appearance in Lakeland on Wednesday is any indication of his support in his campaign for the U.S. Senate then Gov. Charlie Crist had better take notice. Rubio, the former speaker of the Florida House who is challenging Crist for the Republican nomination, addressed a Lakeland Republican Club luncheon at Cleveland Heights Golf Course. The crowd that was expected to be about 160 grew to a little more than 190 and gave him three standing ovations. His main message, to the audience and during an interview...

TORONTO (AP) -- Canada added a better-than-expected 27,100 jobs in August, one of the biggest gains since the recession began in the country last fall. But according to Statistics Canada all of the jobs are part-time. The agency said Friday that Canada's unemployment rate edged up to 8.7 percent from 8.6 percent in July, as more Canadians began looking for work. Still, the addition of 27,100 jobs is well above the previous month's 45,000 job retreat. The result also beat consensus expectations of a 15,000 job loss month. The U.S.-equivalent based on labor market size would be 271,000 jobs gained....

Montel Williams is now a moonbat talk show host for Air America. The formerly civil TV personality is now a foaming-at-the-mouth nutroots-panderer who wishes GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann dead. WILLIAMS (1:30:32): Michelle, slit your wrist. Go ahead… or, do us all a better thing [sic]. Move that knife up about two feet. Start right at the collarbone. Where are the civility police when you need them, huh?

Remember Lucus Smith? The man who claimed he had Obama’s birth certificate and tried auctioning it off on ebay? Lucas made a couple of youtube vids. Lucas filed a declaration with the court in California concerning how he had gotten a hold of Obama’s birth certificate and submitted the birth certificate along with the declaration. I personally don’t know for sure if its real but he would be a fool for knowingly filing a lie with a court. Lucas’s latest youtube vid defending his find…

News fairly unbalanced. We report. You decipher. [this means satire, capiche?] A draft copy of President Barack Obama's planned September 8 address to America's public school children, tells students that "If you want to grow up to be like me, you should beg your parents to put you in private school, right now." Although Obama attended public school in Indonesia early in life, he soon switched to a private Catholic school, and from fifth grade through graduation went to a private college-prep school in Hawaii. His own daughters now attend a private school in Washington D.C. "Do you think you're...

Defense Secretary Robert Gates is objecting “in the strongest terms” to an Associated Press decision to transmit a photograph showing a mortally wounded 21-year-old Marine in his final moments of life, calling the decision “appalling” and a breach of “common decency.” The AP reported that the Marine’s father had asked – in an interview and in a follow-up phone call — that the image, taken by an embedded photographer, not be published.rest of story at link...

Thanks to the work done by Jim Hoft at (Gateway Pundit) , an (an army of Davids) has begun scouring the Internet to find more about Barack Obama adviser Van Jones and his bent towards 9/11 Trutherism. Hot Air reader Geoff A digs out (this nugget) from 2002 at the first anniversary of 9/11 in San Francisco, when Jones appeared at the Embarcadero for a protest. Here’s the description, which sounds familiar to anyone who followed the Obama presidential campaign (emphases mine):"# Wednesday, Sept. 11, 5:30 AM - 7:30 PM ALL-DAY SEPT. 11 PEACE GATHERING Justin Herman Plaza, Embarcadero at...
