THE COMING WAVE(An Interview With Mother Abigail) I came in from the wilderness, a creature void of form. "Come in," she said, "I'll give you…” Bob Dylan 2006While researching the New Media, I became fascinated with the development of the “Flu Blog”. It seemed to represent – not only the direction – but the form and structure of the changing media in the Internet Age. My original thesis was to write a series of articles detailing, as thoroughly as possible, the creation of the “Flu Blog” – from inception to mainstream assimilation. However, as often happens in war and creativity,...

We wrote here about the Environmental Protection Agency's scuttling of a report by one of its own scientists that says human activity has little or nothing to do with climate change. The Obama administration, the scientist's boss explained, "has decided to move forward on endangerment"--i.e., to make the false finding that CO2 emissions endanger human health and well-being--and therefore "your comments" can only have a "negative impact on our office."

Health Reform: A Senate health care bill will force Americans to buy health insurance whether they want it or not. Where the extra doctors to treat them will come from is anybody's guess...Debby Smith, the uninsured cancer patient hugged by President Obama, is also a Democratic operative. She is a member of Organizing For America, a group that is a project of the Democratic National Committee, and Smith was invited to the event by the White House itself...Acknowledging that many are uninsured because they choose to be, a Senate version of medical reform imposes fines of $1,000 for uninsured people...

Christina Romer, chair of the Council of Economic Advisers to President Obama, recently wrote an ode to Keynesian deficit spending as a method for curing severe recessions. Yet a simple glance at the big picture shows that the Keynesian story makes no sense. Romer on the "Mistakes of 1937" Romer worries that President Obama will cave in to political pressures, and cut stimulus efforts before the economy has sufficiently healed. She alleges that this was the same mistake Roosevelt made after his initial (apparent) success in battling the Depression: [T]he recovery in the four years after Franklin Roosevelt took office...

Reasons to expect more from her in the future By Tony Blankley Tuesday, July 7, 2009 Professional politicians and political journalists don't waste energy on political corpses. They reserve their energy -- positive or negative -- for viable politicians. Thus, an intriguing part of the Sarah Palin phenomenon is the intensity of response to her every word and move -- from both Republican and Democratic Party professionals and from the conventional media. The negative but sustained passion being expressed by the professional Washington political class against her tends to belie its almost unanimous assertion that she is washed up. I...

Global Update The vaccine against tuberculosis that is routinely given to 75 percent of the world’s infants is too risky to give to those born infected with the AIDS virus, says a new study published by the World Health Organization. It recommended that vaccination be delayed until babies can be tested. The Bacille Calmette-Guérin vaccine, known as BCG, protects children well against deadly tuberculous meningitis, though it does less well against the lung form. It has been in use since 1921, and children in many countries — though not the United States, which never adopted it — bear its characteristic...

Here’s the latest on California’s chronic-turned-chaotic budget crisis. Not much to report. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger held an event this morning with some country district attorneys promoting his idea to crack down on potential fraud in the now massive, and heavily unionized, in-home health service program. He says it can save hundreds of millions, public employee unions and Democrats say no, with legislative leaders saying they’re open to some reforms, but after the budget. Not unlike a previous pledge by another set of Democratic legislative leaders to get change the redistricting system. Assembly Speaker Karen Bass boycotted this morning’s Big 5...

STOCKHOLM__Sweden's Riksbank cut interest rates to a fresh record low on Thursday and offered banks 100 billion crowns ($13.2 billion) to boost lending as it strives to reverse the country's worst recession since the 1940s. The central bank lowered its key interest rate by 25 basis points to 0.25 percent in a surprise move, putting official rates at their lowest since records began in 1907, and said it expected rates to remain at that level until late 2010. "The deposit rates are actually negative now. In some sense they are creating a money machine for banks. You can lend all...

(Washington, D.C., July 6, 2009) -- As I traveled throughout the U.S. on my recent book tour, I kept running into people who would ask me, "Where is Steve Forbes? The economy is melting down. We need his economic expertise right now." I couldn't agree more. Steve's message in the 1990s of free market ways to create hope, growth and opportunity at home and abroad may have seemed too bold to the GOP establishment at the time. But it's desperately needed today. His plan to scrap the corrupting federal tax code - "We need to take the tax code and...
