  • The stimulus bill according to Barbara Boxer

Today I received unsolicited email from Barbara Boxer listing some of the items on “the stimulus bill”. Couple of items surprised me: 1. If you receive Social Security benefits, or SSI, you will likely receive a one-time payment of $250. 2. If your neighborhood has foreclosed and abandoned houses, funds are provided to help local governments buy up and improve homes and make them available to renters or future buyers. Why do people on SS need additional $250 and are local governments going to won overpriced neighborhoods to be rented to low income renters ??

It’s 7:00 a.m., and the line is already forming outside the Environmental Protection Agency. The attraction? First lady Michelle Obama, who is due to appear before an audience of EPA employees late in the morning – a crowd that would swell to 1,100, the White House said. One by one, Mrs. Obama is dropping by federal agencies around Washington to give a pep talk and dispense hugs, a gesture that has sent local Obamamania in only one direction: Up. When asked, workers can barely articulate what it is about Michelle Obama that has drawn them out on a cold...

The Traffic Court in Nazareth acquitted a young man who drove four passengers - because he was 21 according to the Hebrew date. The story began in September 2007, when Chaim Frankel was stopped by a policeman for a random check – and was found to be in violation of the law for carrying four passengers. The law states that drivers under age 21 may only carry up to two passengers. Frankel told the policeman that he had actually turned 21 nearly two weeks earlier, and pointed to the Hebrew date as proof. The policeman told him that the Hebrew...

Is He Really My Lord? ". . . so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus . . ." —Acts 20:24 Joy comes from seeing the complete fulfillment of the specific purpose for which I was created and born again, not from successfully doing something of my own choosing. The joy our Lord experienced came from doing what the Father sent Him to do. And He says to us, "As the Father has sent Me, I also send you" (John 20:21 ). Have you received a ministry from the...

The man at the center of a fraud scandal at the Treasury Department has been allowed to quietly quit and retire from his job as a government regulator, despite allegations that he allowed a bank to falsify financial records and amidst outcries from investigators who say the case shows how cozy government regulators have become with the banks and savings and loans they are supposed to be checking on.

They [Babylonians] are a feared and dreaded people; they are a law to themselves and promote their own honor. Their horses are swifter than leopards, fiercer than wolves at dusk. Their cavalry gallops headlong; their horsemen come from afar. They fly like a vulture swooping to devour; they all come bent on violence. Their hordes advance like a desert wind and gather prisoners like sand. They deride kings and scoff at rulers. They laugh at all fortified cities; they build earthen ramps and capture them. Then they sweep past like the wind and go on—guilty men, whose own strength is...

Polygamy came to Parliament Hill on Wednesday, as opponents of decriminalization opened a political front in their campaign to ensure that marriage remains a union limited to two people. Immediately apparent at the news conference on Wednesday were the strange alliances that form around this issue. Charles McVety of the Institute for Family Values is an outspoken evangelical leader from the Christian right, who was vocal in his oppositon to same-sex marriage. Farzana Hassan, president of the Muslim Canadian Congress, an organization that represents secular and progressive Muslims, supported gay marriage but opposes polygamy. Dr. McVety believes the two are...

Archbishop Agostino Marchetto said this Monday in an address on the pastoral care of truckers in Europe, during a meeting organized by the European Association with tolled motorways, bridges and tunnels, being held these days in Innsbruck, Austria. The prelate recalled that the pastoral care of truckers was first addressed 50 years ago by Pope Pius XII, who described the group as "a very vast...
