ISOF, advised by U.S. SF, detains 8 suspected insurgents in separate operations (Baghdad)
Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO
BALAD, Iraq – Iraqi Special Operations Forces, advised by U.S. Special Forces, detained eight suspects March 25 and 26 in separate operations.
In Baghdad, ISOF detained one suspected al Qaeda member who helped create a suicide network associated with attacks against Iraqi and Coalition forces in the Baghdad area. The suspect also recently formed a criminal group to conduct attacks against Coalition forces in Tahrir, southeast of Baghdad.
Two additional suspects were detained in the operation and are being held for further questioning.
In Basra, ISOF detained a suspected criminal who is reported to be an illegal vweapons dealer in the area. The suspect is believed to be smuggling and selling massive amounts of weapons to Special Groups and criminal elements that attack Iraqi and Coalition forces. ISOF conducted the operation in support of Government of Iraq efforts to stabilize Basra. Four other suspects were detained and are being held for questioning.

A Qassam rocket was found on a kibbutz within the Sdot Negev Regional Council Thursday. This rocket likely landed there within the last few hours without triggering the Color Red alert system.

Qassam rocket lands in Eshkol Regional Council; none injured

A Qassam rocket fired from the northern Gaza Strip Thursday landed within the Eshkol Regional Council. No injuries or property damage were reported.
On Wednesday, 17 Qassam rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel. Two people were lightly wounded in these attacks, and seven others were treated for shock. (Shmulik Hadad)

British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, who heads the ministry responsible for counter-terrorism, recently sent the above quoted letter to a recipient in the Middle East. It is worrying to realize who the recipient was and what that implies about Britain’s role in the global struggle against radical Islam.
Was it sent to a Hezbollah official in Lebanon or Iran? Not a chance; “Army of Allah” officials are always welcome guests in the UK. Ibrahim Moussawi, Hezbollah’s chief propagandist, recently concluded a British “speaking tour” with no objections from Ms. Smith’s Home Office.
Perhaps it was sent to a radical imam or cleric somewhere in the Gulf? Wrong again; Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi was successfully granted a visa five out of the last six times that he has applied. Al-Qaradawi, a Muslim Brotherhood affiliated cleric, is known for praising terrorist attacks against Israelis and Americans, calling for the destruction of Israel, and stating that homosexuals should “be put to death”. During his last trip to Britain, where he chaired the annual meeting of the European Council of Fatwa and Research at London’s City Hall, London mayor Ken Livingston compared him to the Pope.
Shamefully, this letter was sent to a politician in the Jewish State. Moshe Feiglin, the head of the Jewish Leadership faction within the Likud party, initially had thought that the letter was a prank, as he had no intentions of visiting the UK and had not applied for a visa. He was shocked to learn that the letter was indeed authentic and that Britain had become the first nation on earth that banned his presence.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “BEIJING - A 19-year-old woman has confessed to attempting to hijack and crash a Chinese passenger plane that had to be diverted earlier this month after suspicious liquid was found on board, the official Xinhua News Agency said Thursday.
Xinhua said the woman confessed to a “terrorist” attempt on the March 7 flight to Beijing from Urumqi, the capital of China’s Muslim Xinjiang region. The flight was diverted to Lanzhou, in western Gansu province, after one or more passengers were found with suspicious liquids.
The woman is from China’s Turkic Muslim Uighur minority, Xinhua said, and officials have called the attack part of a terror campaign to turn the region into an independent nation called East Turkestan.”

Sounds gang related.
I was saddened and angered today to see some gang graffiti on a very nice house in our neighborhood. Enough midnight basketball. How about some midnight police patrols?
Yep, sounds that way to me, too.
Suggestioon:
Before painting over that grafitti, have the property owner take a photo of it.
File a vandalism report and give the officer a copy of the grafitti photo.
The gang unit should be able to “read” the grafitti and let you all know what the problem is there in the neighborhood.
If you have a Neighborhood Watch, be watching for subjects who are suspicious in your area.

The forgotten front of the WOT. There are some rumors building that the Tali / AQ have shored up their bases in Pakistan - due in large part to the internal chaos in the gov’t there, and are now redevoting resources to Afghanistan. The question to be answered is will there be a substantial change in tactics? Previous years had relatively large formations of Tali taking border regions. These forces would eventually be pushed out by our troops and smashed by our ground and air assets. This had the effect of turning the Tali offensives into a meat grinder for them. Internal issues in Pakistan are likely the reason we’ve started to more agressively strike across the border at Tali/AQ headquarters. Anyway, heres a report on the developing action:

KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban says it will use new techniques and draw on years of fighting experience to again increase attacks in Afghanistan this spring.
A statement attributed to Taliban senior commander Mullah Bradar also warns Afghans working with the government to quit their jobs or risk being targeted.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia State Police were hunting Thursday for a sniper or snipers suspected of shooting at motorists along Interstate 64.
A 20-mile section of the major highway was closed overnight and into the early morning hours as officers pursued the gunman — but has since been reopened.
State police said that at least four cars were struck by bullets along an 11-mile stretch of the highway Wednesday night. A Virginia Department of Transportation vehicle was found with bullet holes near an exit for I-64 along Route 250, FOX News has confirmed.
