Los Angeles Chapter FRN (HRF) - Rallys for America at the Oscars - Thread One
Welcome to one of several media presentation pages that will reveal what it was like to attend the Hollywood Resistance Force Rally at the 75th Annual Oscar Awards ceremony. On this page you will find GIFs, JPEGs, and MOV movie clips. The movie clips range from 0.7 to 1.3 megabytes in size. They are not profound by any means, but they do show what was going on out there. Each plays for around ten to fifteen seconds.

This is a photo that was placed on the live Oscar thread. It is the best shot I have of our group from across the street. I appologize for not crediting the contributor here, but did credit them on our first after Freep thread, linked above.
This three frame montage gives a decent perspective of the Hollywood Boulevard and Hyland Avenue intersection. You are looking at the southwest corner from the northeast corner. The black car on the left is on Hollywood Boulevard. It will have to turn right (north) on Hyland. The Kodak Theater is located in the middle of the next block on Hollywood Boulevard. Click on any of these graphics for a larger version.
Here is another shot of the Hollywood Boulevard and Hyland Avenue intersection. You're looking south on Hyland, with Hollywood crossing to the right.
After the freep, the Hollywood Resistance Force gathered at the Holiday Inn for dinner. In attendence were LA Chapter members and other Freepers as well as new friends who wanted to join us. Here we're discussing things we liked, and things we'd like to change for our next Freep. We also discussed future plans for the Chapter, and upcoming events. RonDog, center right enters his name on the roster. We do this at each gathering so that we'll make sure to include new members and update our files on current members.
Here is another photo of our evening gathering.
Okay, this is the last one of our evening gathering, promise.
Press Photographs
Check that out. Limos had to come right by our position, facing our direction. Peace protesters were somewhat hidden on the south side of the street, to the right and behind the limos as they entered the intersection and turned left. Click on any of these graphics for a larger version.
The Saddam Hussein sign was great. This person infiltrated the marxist group and paraded this sign up and down in their midst. Love it.
Yep, these appeared in the press. Here's the last one.
It's pretty hard to say that these folks are not supportive of Bush. None the less, this photo showed up in the press. Miracles never cease.
I probably shouldn't do this, but I thought a little tribute to Michael Moore was in order. This photo showed up on Yahoo's news service. I guess you could say I took a few liberties...
Video Clips
These QuickTime MOV video clips are 0.75 to 1.35 megabytes in size. They play for around 10 to 15 seconds.
Our protesters clip two. Chanting, "USA All the Way!":
Their protesters clip two. Whew, look at those signs. At least a few are ours.
Limosines drive past our position to the entrance of the Kodak Theater.
The Saturn Ion blimp flew over the event for hours. Clip one.
This is a much closer look at the Saturn Ion blimp. Clip Two
Here a member of the press takes a photo of a Freeper with the Bush cutout.
Here's another view of the CommieWoodKills.com banner.
Ambulance w/police motorcade arrives at the rear entrance to the Regincy Hotel around 8:00 p.m. I didn't see a news report to indicate what happened.
Many stars stayed at this hotel.
At this time I'd like to remind folks what this was all about. I support Bush's actions regarding this war effort, and I think about him often these days, but when push comes to shove, these are the guys whose welfare is on my mind constantly.
Well folks, that's about it. Until the next time, Freep On!
You have been BUSY!What an EXTRAORDINARY way to document our recent adventures at the Academy Awards!
THANK YOU, DoughtyOne!

Outside the Kodak theater, as close as the police would allow: thousands of patriots rallied in support of the troops, the President, and America. Flags waving, signs, and chants: "IMPEACH MARTIN SHEEN," "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS," "WE LOVE BUSH," "LIBERATE IRAQ."
NOW FOR WHAT YOU WANT TO KNOW: Yes, we were in plain sight of plenty of media cameras and the LIMOUSINE LIBERAL HOLLYWOOD LEFTIES! Several women in limos held up the "peace" sign, one actress unfurled a "no blood for oil" sign out her limo window. I only saw her sleeve so I'll have to wait until I see the inside pictures to know who it was. Another actress with a platinum blonde short shag held a "war is not the answer" sign out her tinted window as her limo turned the corner to the Kodak entrance.
Because of these Hollywood ingrates, streets were blocked off by police all around the area and we had to walk about two miles around the vicinity of Hollywood and Highland to get to our protest site.
Several people in our crowd had bullhorns and we chanted "Back to Berkeley," "USA" "G-d Bless America," "LAPD," "Smoke Saddam, not crack." Often, the chants were directed toward the ANTI-BUSH, ANTI-FREEDOM nuts who were situated on the opposite corner with their "BUSH IS STUPID" and "BUSH IS HITLER" signs. Most of their ILK were down on Sunset with their drums and their peace signs, gettin' busy bein' stupid...

So I finally start going through, page by page, the Oscar coverage in today's Slimes (that's right... still reading it so that you don't have to). And then I almost had a heart attack. The "E"/"Calendar Part 1" Section is dedicated to Oscar coverage, E1 starting it all off with a big pic of Best Actor winner Adrien Brody smooching presenter Halle Berry and the beginning of the story.Following it in to E2 and E3, there are a bunch of huge picture of various winners from the night, the top of each page prefaced with a huge bold quote. On the left side (heh, heh) is one quote:"Why do you come to the Academy Awards when the world is in such turmoil?Because art is important."Nicole Kidman, accepting the best actress awardOn the right side (in more ways than one ;^) is another quote:"If John Wayne was here, he'd be doing what we're doing. He'd be supporting the troops."Ron Smith, demonstrator at Hollywood and HighlandCONGRATULATIONS, RONDOG!!! The Hollywood Resistance Force was out in strength today Sunday, March 23, 2003.
Along with around three to five hundred other conservatives, the Los Angeles Chapter of the Free Republic Network made sure Michael Moore (or less) had to pass by fourteen hundred United States flags on the way in to receive his Oscar. Every leftist who sputtered nonsense from the podium, had to pass us by. We waved our flags and shouted Liberate Iraq, Free the Iraqis, L - A - P - D (a supportive chant for the Los Angeles Police Department officers on site) and other phrases sure to make leftists melt like a vampire in the presence of garlic.
Our local Vice-President and Public Relations Officer RonDog (Ron Smith) arranged this event, and did us proud. Ron teamed us up with Fit Aim Act, the Liberty Belles, and representatives from other organizations for which I'll be kicking myself in the morning for not remembering now. Ron will be by to supplement this report anyway. He'll be sure to credit everyone who participated.
Ted Hayes did an excellent job of fielding interviews from a conservative point of view. Ted is with Fit Aim Act, and knows his way around the public relations maze. His burden is homeless advocacy, but Ted is well grounded on many conservative issues and it's a pleasure to listen to him present his views. When you do, you'll find yourself saying "all right" or "Yes!" over and over again. You just can't help it.
Folks, this event was a public relations gold mine for our chapter. Every local media outlet seemed to be on site. BobJ arrived earlier than I did, so he can tell you the orgs he ran into. I say the Los Angeles Times people, several, and several radio stations. I turned on the Oscar coverage on E early this afternoon and there was BobJ standing next to Ted Hayes on the E-Channel. Bob, wearing his free republic hat, was a walking billboard for our cause. You can't buy coverage like that.
I am told that wire service photos already exist on the forum, showing our group at the Oscars. Excellent. After all, we were there to liberate Oscar!
We were one half block from the entrance to the Oscars. All limos passed our location. I saw at least one vehicle with nothing but thumbs up, headed towards the Oscars. Love it!
We made a number of new friends through this event. Other groups we networked with were great. Other individuals who were simply sick and tired of the leftists that seek to speak for us, and showed up on their own, were glad to find us there.
We had one special guest show up. I know you'll find it hard to believe, so did we. Look closely, you'll see who it is.
Yep, like I said, we were shocked too. He waved a flag, joined us in chants and was particularly good on one that said, "We support the President!" and took time to give us his private eMail, so he could join us on our next FReep.
Folks, we had an excellent time. Like other FReeps, we had dinner afterwards. There we discussed this event, and our plans for future activities. RonDog made a presentation on future plans. For the folks we'd met today, that knew nothing about FRee Republic before this, I gave a two or three minute overview of FRee Republic and Free Republic Network. When I mentioned there was a sight out there where between 750 and 1250 articles from around the world were posted every day, and explained that they would find other conservatives they could discuss issues with, they said, "Wow!" Yep, that about sums it up.
What a day. Thanks RonDog. Thanks Ted Hayes. Thanks Free Republic Network. You each did us proud.
More photos will follow. Some video clips will too.
Drop back in. It'll seem like you were there.
Those who attended today, Please add in your comments. I'd love to read them.
FRee Republic and FRee Republic Network rock!

A Political Look at HollywoodThe nerve of the president to start a war just as Hollywood was about to host its most self-absorbed event of the year.
Oh well. Despite the heavy military distractions that were taking place, the 75th annual Academy Awards show went on as scheduled...
-- snip --
...An Internet-sized "thank you" has to go out to an enthusiastic group of demonstrators that displayed support for the U.S. military. They gathered on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, about a half block away from the Kodak Theater.
Many of the demonstrators involved were "Freepers" from the Web site Free Republic.
These folks forced the news media to report the truth - that there are a whole lot of people who believe in this mission, back the president, thank the troops, pray for peace and love this great nation of ours...

The Little People
On Oscar night, Hollywood thanks everyone but the troops.
BY MICHAEL MEDVED
Wednesday, March 26, 2003 12:01 a.m. ESTThe most prominent personalities in the antiwar movement resist all efforts to classify their angry activism as anti-American. But Sunday night's Oscar extravaganza obliterated such defensive distinctions. For 3 1/2 hours, the entertainment elite indulged in the usual orgy of self-congratulation with only hostile or dismissive reference to epic Iraqi battles involving thousands of U.S. troops. They offered no hint of gratitude, affection, loyalty or connection to the superpower that sustains them.
The ceremony featured little patriotic imagery and among presenters and award winners, not one chose to wear the American flag lapel pins now ubiquitous elsewhere in American life. Instead, dozens of the biggest stars sported silver "Dove of Peace" pins to signal their opposition to the war.
Meanwhile, Bill Conti and the Oscar Orchestra avoided any remotely nationalistic music during the evening. Perhaps the experience of the Miramax Oscar Eve bash persuaded the responsible parties to shun such tunes. At that glittering occasion, entertainer Michael Feinstein tried to lead the assembled stars and swells in "God Bless America," only to find many members of the crowd ostentatiously refusing to participate.
Of course, the absence of themes and symbols celebrating the U.S. didn't mean that Oscar winners excluded tributes to other nations. In his tirade against George W. Bush and his "fictitious" election, presidency and war policy, documentary film maker Michael Moore pointed with pride to his "Bowling for Columbine" producer's Canadian citizenship. After receiving the Academy Award for his score to the movie "Frida," Elliot Goldenthal declared his passionate commitment to noble Mexican traditions of "political art" and, hoisting his gold statuette, solemnly said "this is for Mexico."
The only specific references to American identity came in relation to "Gangs of New York," introduced in scripted remarks as "about the conflicts that helped define what it means to be an American"--as if vicious street fights between nativist and Irish gangs in the 1850s somehow represent our national character.
At least British thespian Peter O'Toole thought to express appreciation for America when he accepted his honorary Oscar. "I think of the United States and of the loves and friendships I've known here for more than half a century," he said, "of how much the nation has given to me both personally, privately and professionally. I am deeply thankful."
The surprise winner for best actor, Adrien Brody of "The Pianist," also displayed some emotional connection to the general public in his well-received acceptance speech, and even made oblique reference to our forces in the gulf. "Whether you believe in God or Allah," he said, "may he watch over you and let's pray for a peaceful and swift resolution." Of course, the desire for a "peaceful resolution" suggests some miraculous settlement that falls well short of victory, so Mr. Brody said nothing that could contradict the most stubbornly anti-American sentiments in the Oscar auditorium.
Similarly, Academy President Frank Pierson never wished our troops victory in their war, but merely hoped for their speedy return. He also sent a message to "the Iraqi people," saying, "let's have peace soon, and let you live without war," but never embracing the idea that they deserved to live in freedom.
Finally, host Steve Martin concluded the broadcast with an apparent message to our armed services: "And to our young men and women who are watching overseas, we are thinking of you, we hope you enjoy the show. It's for you. Good night." Even here, Hollywood shunned any explicit mention of the U.S. military, since "young men and women . . . overseas" could be movie company reps watching in Paris.
In the midst of war, even Democratic front-runner (and Bush critic) John Kerry observed that "for America now, the only exit strategy is victory. This is our common mission and the world's cause." If Barbra Streisand (who emphasized the importance of protest) and Susan Sarandon (who flashed a peace sign) had expressed similar sentiments, it hardly would have compromised their liberal credentials.
Their failure to do so underlines the gap between ordinary citizens and the entertainment establishment. The ratings for this year's show were appallingly low (with the weakest audience share in Academy history), and the mounting backlash to celebrity leftists raises the possibility of permanent damage to Hollywood's standing.
Impassioned demonstrators outside the Oscar ceremony waved American flags and carried signs declaring "Support Our Troops" and "Impeach [Martin] Sheen."Beyond threats of boycotts and petitions (which scare no one), there is a pervasive sense of disillusionment and anger that ought to alarm the industry. For years, Hollywood has promoted messages that neither reflect nor respect the values of everyday Americans. On Oscar night, the contrast between our struggling troops in Iraq and the stars who wouldn't support their efforts proved too glaring to ignore--or forget.
Mr. Medved, author of "Hollywood vs. America," hosts a nationally syndicated radio show on politics and pop culture.
