My Thoughts On Freedom Of Speech Re: The Academy Awards

I pray for America's military servicemen and women and their families. I pray that this war is over quickly, that our troops come home safely and that there are few civilian casualties.
I find it tragic that the Bush administration's attempts at diplomacy failed so miserably and have led us to the point of starting a war that might have been avoided.
Thank God the constitution enables all citizens to exercise their freedom of speech to say what they believe. That's what's great about democracy and what's great about this country.
In fact, Theodore Roosevelt said, "To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." How dare the media call people who speak out against the war unpatriotic. Exercising freedom of speech is an extremely patriotic act.
I have been arguing that point for many years now, that artists have just as much of a right to speak out as every other citizen. In 1995, I gave a speech at Harvard called the artist as citizen. I made the point then and many times since that artists are citizens first and artists second. We have opinions and ideas, just like anybody else. The difference is that we are given more visibility from which to speak - so we have to be informed and we have to be responsible, but it doesn't mean we have to be quiet.
Hmmmmm.... So what did you say, Babs, when we crticized Clinton when he was President?
But, Barbra dear, you aren't informed and responsible, so....
Couldn't help but notice that your Web page has no e-mail link. I wonder why this is? H-m-m-m-m-m?
If she means, failed diplomacy with France/Germany/Russia, then a successful diplomacy would have us sitting in exactly the same place - just outside Baghdad. . .
Stupid: 'thy name is 'Democrats'. . .
I can't speak for them, but if it were me, I'd say save your prayers. They're meaningless coming from you.
I find it tragic that the Bush administration's attempts at diplomacy failed so miserably and have led us to the point of starting a war that might have been avoided.
Didn't Daschle say exactly this same thing????
Thank God the constitution enables all citizens to exercise their freedom of speech
You invoke the Almighty's name one more time and Satan's going to take you off Hell's mailing list.
Exercising freedom of speech is an extremely patriotic act.
Keep repeating that mantra. Maybe sheer repetition can make up what it lacks in logic.
...we have to be informed and we have to be responsible, but it doesn't mean we have to be quiet.
You're not informed and you're not responsible. Far from it. However, you might want to heed the advice of a wise man who said "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
To whom do you suppose she's praying to? Is anyone else getting sick of hearing people say that they're "praying" for something or someone when it's obvious these people have no regard whatsoever for any supreme being at all, let alone the One True God? What these people really mean is that they are hoping. There is a big difference between hoping and praying. The only god in Barbara'a life is Barbara.
Then why aren't you informed or responsible?
. . .yes, and it must make our Military proud to hear the Demrats expound and exercise their 'freedoms'.
Babara forgets 'context' and timing. . .without it, her free speech, as it aids and abets our enemies, could be construed as treasonous; a word so often confused by Hollywood, for patriotic.
But then 'how could they know'?
You know Babs, sometimes knowing when to shut your alligator-sized mouth so it doesn't betray your hummingbird-sized brain is an extremely patriotic act too. Back in line, maggot.
The big award statuette in the sky.
"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else." "Roosevelt in the Kansas City Star", 149 May 7, 1918
Notice how Babs and every other celeb that had this quote handed to them by their publicist left out those parts that would have forced them to criticize X42 for his failings
