Afederal judge on Friday agreed to recuse himself from overseeing the exonerated Central Park Five’s defamation lawsuit against President-elect Trump. Shanin Specter, the Central Park Five’s lead attorney, disclosed earlier this week he has been friends with the judge since childhood and represented him and his wife in legal matters. “Defendant respectfully submits that a reasonable person would question the Court’s impartiality in this matter, and therefore seeks recusal,” Trump’s attorneys wrote in a motion requesting that U.S. District Judge Michael Baylson remove himself from the trial. Baylson, an appointee of former President George W. Bush, quickly agreed to the...

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) — When it comes to the niche business of moving elephants, Dr. Amir Khalil and his team might be the best. Kaavan was dubbed the “world’s loneliest elephant” at the time, and the project was a great success. But he was not the only one that needed help.... Charley, an aging four-ton African elephant, had outlived his fellow elephants at a zoo in the...

On Sunday evening, July 30, at around 8:00, I was in a supermarket near Roosevelt and Canal in Chicago’s South Loop, an upscale shopping, health club and movie hub on the edge of downtown. The area has been regarded as safe and on the upswing since the late 1990s and is even being considered for a new White Sox park or Bears stadium. While entering the store I noticed scores of African American teenagers lining the street. At first, I thought that there was some kind of festival or parade. But there was already a city policeman guarding the entrance....

I’m angry; you will understand why by the time I finish. We are transitioning into what might be called the Post-America period. All the pillars of a free Republic are under attack. Forces are surging from all sides, led by Progressives who sense they have us on the run. During war, you send scouts out ahead to reconnoiter in advance of your main force. The Progressive scouts are sending messages “meeting light to no resistance.” Progressives are emboldened, believing that whatever they do is working, and their victory is in sight. Let me explain why I hope they may be...

I don’t know which is more discouraging: that the Mayor of Chicago actually tried this verbal flim-flammery or that the assembled media at his press conference didn’t erupt in laughter at his attempt to blackwash rampaging looters. He thought he could get away with it, and so far as one can see, he did. Watch this Grabien video, where Mayor Brandon Johnson says: Johnson: “That’s not appropriate. We’re not talking about mob actions, I didn’t say that — hold on a second, okay. Respectfully, these large gatherings —“ Reporter: “That caused damage.” Johnson: “— these large gatherings — just hold...

Yusef Salaam, a member of the exonerated “Central Park Five,” has officially won the Democratic primary for a seat on the New York city council, almost ensuring his eventual election to the seat. Salaam had a significant lead over his opponents, New York Assembly members Inez Dickens and Al Taylor, for the nomination to represent Council District 9 in Central Harlem, but he needed additional votes released Wednesday to clinch victory. Initial unofficial results put Salaam as the clear leader with 50.14 percent of the vote, while Dickens and Taylor had about 25 and 14 percent, respectively. Incumbent Kristin Jordan,...

“White privilege” conveys the idea that white people have impunity. They can abuse, even kill, people of color without consequence. Yet, it is white officer Chauvin who is in jail charged with the murder of black George Floyd, while the two black Maryland teenagers who murdered 59-year old white John Weed at the county fair for not giving them a dollar were sentenced by white female judge Julie Stevenson Solt to “anger management training” and “behavior modification” but otherwise unpunished. Here is the report—https://www.revolver.news/2020/08/black-teens-kill-white-man-county-fair/ . The story was covered locally (for example, https://aminerdetail.com/outrage-over-frederick-fair-murder-sentencing/ ) but kept out of national news...

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot slammed looters and rioters who descended upon the downtown area early Monday morning, calling the overnight events “an assault on our city” and telling criminals, “We are coming for you.” Police said more than 100 people were arrested and at least 13 officers were hurt over the course of the events. “We are waking up in shock this morning,” Lightfoot said. “These individuals engaged in what can only be described as brazen and extensive criminal looting and destruction. And to be clear, this had nothing to do with legitimate, protected First Amendment expression.”
