(NEXSTAR) — It may be hard to think about sweltering temperatures in early March, but the National Weather Service (NWS) is already rolling out changes to the weather alerts used to inform the public of the dangers of impending heat. Americans may be familiar with “Excessive Heat Watches” and “Excessive Heat Warnings,” issued when potentially dangerous heat conditions are in the forecast. Starting this month, those alerts will be no more — sort of. Like it did with wind chill alerts in fall, the NWS is adjusting the names of its heat watch and warning alert. Instead, dangerous heat conditions...

US President Joe Biden’s administration will soon release its National Security Strategy, which is being revised in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The document will no doubt trigger a renewed debate about how the United States should gear up for a new cold war against Russia and China. But before we plunge into a global great-power competition, it’s worth recalling Biden’s promise to create a “foreign policy for the middle class” and take a look at what most concerns Americans.US President Joe Biden’s administration will soon release its National Security Strategy, which is being revised in the wake...

What kind of Supreme Court justice would Harriet Miers be? For anyone trying to assess her qualifications, analyze her philosophy and predict her behavior, Miers would seem to present a fairly blank slate. She has no judicial resume and hasn't left a long trail of noteworthy memos, briefs, oral argument transcripts or law journal articles. Gay Rights An indication of her stance on gay rights comes from this questionaire from the Lesbian/Gay Political Coalition of Dallas Miers filled out while running for the Dallas City Council in 1989. In it, she supported full civil rights for gays and lesbians and...

Why isn't there an uproar over the Jeff Gannon and his gay prostitution business? Why was he allowed into White House Briefing Rooms? What happened to "family values"?

As we all know Bush is ahead in the polls, lets hope thats still the case on November 2nd. What I dont understand is why Bush is not further ahead, given all the controversy and negativity swirling around the skerry campaign. Granted hes got his hardcore base that would support him even if Kerry was somehow linked to the attacks of 9/11. But with issues like: The See BS ANG document scandel, now at least indirectly linked to Joe Lockhart, Kerrys Senior Campaign Strategist; the Swiftie campaign, which clearly shows Kerry as a soldier who negotiated with the enemy in...

WHY ARE THE MEDIA AND THE BUSH CAMPAIGN IGNORING THE SINGLE ISSUE THAT CAN SINK THE KERRY/EDWARDS CAMPAIGN? The most salient fact about Kerry’s military career, that is the center piece of his campaign, is that two thirds of his comrades hate him. This is the issue that can determine the outcome of this election; if we can get the word out. But this is proving to be exceedingly difficult. For example, hundreds of Vietnam Veterans demonstrated outside the Fleet Center on the last two days of the Democratic National Convention including massing in front of Kerry’s Beacon Hill mansion...

U.S. oil prices have set another record on the New York Mercantile Exchange, reaching $44.24 a barrel, the highest since NYMEX launched its crude contract in 1983. (...) Following are some of the factors behind oil's price surge. --RISING DEMAND ... -- LACK OF SPARE SUPPLY CAPACITY ... --REFINERY BOTTLENECKS ... --SCARCER OIL Big oil reservoirs are becoming harder to find and more expensive to develop. Many of the oil provinces outside OPEC are mature, which means that finds are now smaller, need more costly technology to develop and fall faster from peak production.

Just listened to Lieberman's speech - someone please tell me it was as lame as I think it was. It was worse than Teresa in some ways, although not as spacey.

I am so sick of the constant media bombardment on the POW issues. I think we need to push our senators to introduce a resolution in the Senate that states: "Terrorists are not POWs and the terrorists captured in Afganistan are not subject to the Geneva convention - only to US law" or even better pass a bill that contains similar language. Then we can see where John Kerry stands on the issue ....

President Bush has had some really bad news lately and the media have been in a full feeding frenzy over the prison abuses. Polls are now indicating that the president's approval is falling into the 40's. Some are starting to associate him with Carter and Ford. My question for everyone is, is the president in a freefall? What can he do to turn this around, can he turn this around?
