US President Joe Biden’s administration will soon release its National Security Strategy, which is being revised in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The document will no doubt trigger a renewed debate about how the United States should gear up for a new cold war against Russia and China.
But before we plunge into a global great-power competition, it’s worth recalling Biden’s promise to create a “foreign policy for the middle class” and take a look at what most concerns Americans.US President Joe Biden’s administration will soon release its National Security Strategy, which is being revised in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. ...
The foreign-policy “blob” may be gearing up for a global cold war, but Americans are focused on security at home. According to a survey by the nonpartisan Eurasia Group Foundation, nearly half of Americans think the United States should decrease its involvement in other countries’ affairs; only 21.6% would increase it. Nearly 45% would decrease US troop deployments abroad; only 32.2% would increase them.
Polls, of course, are merely snapshots, and war fever can transform opinion. However, a 2021 report by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs reported many of the same priorities.
Far more Americans (81%) said they were concerned about threats from within the country than from outside the country (19%). Among foreign-policy goals, more than 75% of respondents ranked protecting American workers’ jobs and preventing the spread of nuclear weapons, respectively, as very important.
Ranked lowest were “helping to bring a democratic form of government to other nations” (18%) and “protecting weaker nations against foreign aggression” (32%).
Didn’t read the article, bur van den Shovel gets it right for once.
Going to be hard to ‘gear up’ when you are economically imploding and your national debt continues to balloon past 30 trillion dollars.....
And not just unneeded war. Spending trillions to colonize the moon or mars is no better. Time to “live within our means” instead of frivolously throwing away our Grandkids future prosperity and enslaving them.
LOL, Katrina vanden Heuvel? Seriously? When has she ever been right?
The January 6 Committee’s Audience Won’t Match Watergate’s. But It Should.- Republicans have already accepted Trump’s “big lie” that the television landscape has changed.
The US Needs a Better Gun Policy. Democrats Can Make It Happen.
President Donald Trump’s greatest dereliction of duty — his disgraceful denial of climate change
Trumps Most Dangerous Betrayal Yet
30 percent of my paycheck is take by the federal government, the stat of Michigan, and the local governments therein before I even see it. I could almost buy a new car in the lower price range with what is taken out of my check at the end of the year. That is before inflation eats up money I’d normally try to put into savings each month. The federal government spies on its own citizens, and calls veterans (among many others) domestic terrorists in waiting. We have unchecked invasion ongoing at the southern border. We have unelected billionaires trying to influence government and destroy our economy, our food supply, our supply chains under the guide of some contrived climate emergency. So, yeah, totally concerned about what’s going on elsewhere in the world.
What would George Washington do?
KATRINA VANDEN HEUVEL
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Say no morw!
Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
>>That is before inflation eats up money I’d normally try to put into savings each month.
A substantial part of the inflation you are experiencing is due to foreign policy regarding Russia and China disrupting energy and other natural resource supplies, as well as supply chains for other goods.
Americans (most) don’t want a hot war either, unless it is to defend the US.
Don't want to go fight in Vietnam? No problem! Just head out into the street and support the enemy!
The federal govenrment has kept growing and spending and ignoring the Constitution? All we care about is whether we get our Egg McMuffin in time.
The Soviets - I mean Russians - invade a sovereign country and kill thousands? Not our problem..
The Federal government arrest and imprisons Trump supporters for an enthusiastic demonstration that is labelled as an "insurrection" and holds them indefinitely. Wonder what's on TV tonight?
The FBI has finally stooped to arrest a father of seven for pushing an abortion escort who was aggressive with his young son. Crickets.
It is impossible to underestimate the average commitment of our fellow citizens.
“US President Joe Biden’s administration will soon release its National Security Strategy”
My prediction for the new ‘strategy’: “If Russia doesn’t leave all of we deem to be Ukraine, then we’ll nuke Moscow”
Putin has made it clear that this is two-way street, and he certainly has the means to do just that.
I’m just glad that Trump is gone and replaced by RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP, as Trump was going to get us into a nuclear war.
Do you have better polling data than the numbers she cited?
Do you think that the American public supports the neoCon PNAC foreign policy of Victoria Nuland and company?
Biden, Blinken and Milley are doing everything that can to make sure there is no cold war. Now a hot nuclear war in Europe, that’s a different story.
Sounds like she actually listened to her late husband on that issue. Good for her to carry on his memory.
Trump would have our nuke subs repositioned to send a threat to Putin.
