For the first time since 1943, Pennsylvania has a new state record typical whitetail taken with a firearm. The “new” record buck, however, was shot about 60 years ago. Frederick Kyriss shot the 14-point buck, which measured 202 7/8 inches according to the Boone & Crockett scoring system, in Montgomery County some time in the 1960s. He had the skull with antlers attached mounted in his garage for decades without ever having it measured. Game Commission officials aren’t exactly sure when Kyriss took the giant buck, but guessed it was in the 1960s. In the record book, the harvest year...

With a deeper perception of blues into the ultraviolet range, deer see not only blue jeans but residue from UV brighteners in laundry detergent that is invisible to humans. Deer pupils gather more light, and a greater concentration of light-dark photoreceptors gives them better night vision. Eyes positioned on the sides of the head give deer a broader field of view. Deer have incredible motion detection. They can see a hunter blink from a distance, but if there’s no additional movement they don’t know what it is.

Who is hunting right now? Or will be soon? Its archery season in Texas. I am in the stand in shortsleeves, shorts and flipflops. It is quite warm. I had the ac on in the tractor this morning cutting hay and was still drippin' from my pits. I am in the shade now and somewhat cooler, but not a critter to be found. Me, my Solocam, six carbons with Magnus 125's, and my DroidPro. Surfing the WWW (wow, I used just read a book, who'd a thunk it!). Who you be? Identify yourself. I bet Paul Ryan is wishing he...

WASHINGTON – A sleepy Montana checkpoint along the Canadian border that sees about three travelers a day will get $15 million under President Barack Obama's economic stimulus plan. A government priority list ranked the project as marginal, but two powerful Democratic senators persuaded the administration to make it happen. Despite Obama's promises that the stimulus plan would be transparent and free of politics, the government is handing out $720 million for border upgrades under a process that is both secretive and susceptible to political influence. This allowed low-priority projects such as the checkpoint in Whitetail, Mont., to skip ahead of...

Dead Deer Found In Stolen Ambulance Police chased ambulance across three counties. Lexington, NC -- Police chased a man across three counties after he stole an ambulance in Lexington. Authorities say a deer, which had been dead nearly a week, was strapped to the gurney in the back. The suspect has been...

RICHMOND, Va. — A federal appeals court yesterday reinstated a lawsuit challenging a Virginia law requiring parental supervision at a summer camp for juvenile nudists. A three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the American Association for Nude Recreation-Eastern Region could pursue its claim that the law violates its free-speech rights by crimping its ability to spread its social nudism philosophy. The organization claims it had to cancel a summer camp last summer in southeast Virginia because only 11 of the 35 youths who signed up would have been able to bring a parent as...

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- A federal appeals court Tuesday reinstated a lawsuit challenging a 2004 Virginia law requiring parental supervision at a nudist camp for juveniles. A three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the American Association for Nude Recreation can pursue its claim that the law violates its free speech rights, crimping its ability to spread its nudism philosophy. The organization claims it had to cancel last summer's camp because only 11 of the 35 youths who signed up would have been able to bring a parent. "A regulation that reduces the size of a...

The ACLU is now suing for the right to allow people to operate nude camps for teens. The group filed a motion in Richmand, Virginia to invalidate a state ban on such camps. The state had imposed the ban because White Tail Park had attempted to operate a camp last year for kids aged 11-18. The ACLU is attempting to make the argument that lawmakers over reached and over reacted to the camp by passing such a ban. The ACLU is also arguing that such a ban "interferes" with the "right" of a family to raise and nurture their children....

RICHMOND, Va. The American Civil Liberties Union urged a federal appeals court today to reinstate a lawsuit challenging a state law that scuttled plans for a nudist camp for children last summer. U-S District Judge Richard Williams ruled the lawsuit was moot because organizers of the nudist camp withdrew their permit application after the law took effect. But A-C-L-U attorney Rebecca Glenberg argued today that organizers still want to conduct the nudist camp for teens at White Tail Park this year and in future years. She said the new law makes that difficult. The law requires parental supervision at nudist...
