MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- It appears Jeff Gordon loves Martinsville in the springtime. For the third time in his career, Gordon grabbed the Bud Pole at Martinsville Speedway, turning a lap of 94.307 mph Friday to earn the top starting spot for Sunday's Virginia 500. Gordon, whose three poles at Martinsville have all come in the spring race, knocked Dale Earnhardt Jr. off the pole. Earnhardt's best lap was 93.863. The rest of the top five included Ryan Newman, Ken Schrader and Rusty Wallace.
