A Virgin Atlantic 787 has collided with a British Airways Airbus A350 while pushing back from the terminal building at Heathrow airport causing minor damage to both aircraft. The Virgin jet was being guided by a tug when its winglets struck the tail of the neighbouring BA jet. Emergency services raced to the scene following the low-speed impact. A Virgin Atlantic spokesperson said: 'We are aware that the wingtip of one of our empty aircraft came into contact with another aircraft whilst being towed from the stand at London Heathrow Terminal 3. 'The safety of our customers and crew is...

A Virgin Atlantic flight was about to takeoff for the Big Apple when a nosy passenger peeked out their window and realized that something was off with the wing. Yeah, the WING to the plane had screws missing! That's what you call a critical oversight. They would have taken off if it hadn't been for the observant passenger: British traveler Phil Hardy, 41, was onboard Flight VS127 at Manchester Airport in the UK on Jan. 15 when he noticed the four missing fasteners during a safety briefing for passengers and decided to alert the cabin crew. "I'm a good flyer,...

Virgin Atlantic unveiled a revamped uniform policy Wednesday that will do away with gendered clothing requirements for its staff and introduce pronoun badges for crew members and customers. The UK-based airline said that, effective immediately, all of its pilots, flight attendants and ground crew members will be given a choice to wear either of its Vivienne Westwood-designed burgundy or red uniforms featuring pants or skirts — “no matter their gender, gender identity, or gender expression.”

In order for people to travel in 2021, they may eventually need a COVID vaccine passport. Several companies and technology groups have begun developing smartphone apps or systems for individuals to upload details of their COVID-19 tests and vaccinations, creating digital credentials that could be shown in order to enter concert venues, stadiums, movie theaters, offices, or even countries. The Common Trust Network, an initiative by Geneva-based nonprofit The Commons Project and the World Economic Forum, has partnered with several airlines including Cathay Pacific, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Swiss Airlines, United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic, as well as hundreds of health systems...

Now that coronavirus vaccines are starting to roll out in the US and abroad, many people may be dreaming of the day when they can travel, shop and go to the movies again. But in order to do those activities, you may eventually need something in addition to the vaccine: a vaccine passport application. Several companies and technology groups have begun developing smartphone apps or systems for individuals to upload details of their Covid-19 tests and vaccinations, creating digital credentials that could be shown in order to enter concert venues, stadiums, movie theaters, offices, or even countries. Sir Richard Branson is seeking a buyer for Virgin Atlantic and has set an end-of-May deadline to save the airline from collapse after a taxpayer bailout proved beyond his reach. The Sunday Telegraph has learnt that the pursuit of a £500m government package has been effectively shelved and that the airline is now focused on securing new private investment in the shadow of potential insolvency.

...The A380 might have built more momentum if not for production debacles. Around the time of the first test flight in 2005, Airbus realized it had underestimated the complexity of wiring the superjumbo. Managers discovered that French and German designers had used incompatible software. ...More setbacks followed. The engine of an A380 blew up during a passenger flight in 2010. Nobody was hurt, but it drew negative attention to the plane. Wing cracks discovered on many A380s led to costly repairs. Customers, including Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd., Air France-KLM SA and Qantas Airways Ltd. , canceled orders. The...

There's no better way to travel to Davos than on somebody else's Gulfstream. And that's how the Democratic operatives involved in Invest Again thought they were going to fly: They were going to go to Switzerland on a private plane owned by the heirs of the Goodrich tire fortune. They were going to meet with Bill and Hillary Clinton, and with Richard Branson, the Virgin Atlantic founder, who had supposedly pledged $12 million in seed money for their new organization. Invest Again: It was a progressive organizer's dream. People quit good jobs to join the staff. Major Democratic strategy firms—Bully...

Does this video really show a UFO? Virgin Atlantic flights out of John F. Kennedy International Airport were treated to a potential New York UFO sighting when a mysterious object was shown racing past the passenger jet as it took off from the runway. In a related report by the Inquisitr, some say a photo by NASA’s Mars rover shows a self-replicating alien probe that’s shaped like a sphere.

A Virgin Atlantic passenger plane has landed safely at London's Gatwick Airport after discovering a problem with part of its main landing gear. Virgin flight VS43 with 447 passengers and 15 crew was travelling from Gatwick to Las Vegas when it had to return. The Virgin Galactic rocket plane had just broken the sound barrier and was shooting toward the heavens when it began disintegrating, battered by powerful aerodynamic forces. The pilots were strapped into their seats as entire pieces were torn from SpaceShipTwo. At more than 10 miles high, with fingers no doubt numb from the cold, Peter Siebold somehow escaped from the hurtling wreckage.

For 15 years she has proudly served her country as a Royal Navy engineer, risking her life in Afghanistan when she fought against the Taliban. But far from showing Nicky Howse the respect she deserved as she flew back to her latest posting, Virgin Atlantic staff chose to humiliate her – by demanding that she remove her uniform because it was ‘offensive’. They warned the 32-year-old helicopter technician she would not be allowed to fly unless she took off her combat fatigues and wore a sleep suit instead. -snip She was confronted by a G4S security guard and Virgin Atlantic...

LONDON, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Virgin Atlantic says it has made air transport history in Britain by completing the first flight by a commercial airline to be powered partly by biofuel. The Virgin Atlantic jumbo jet -- carrying no passengers -- departed from London's Heathrow Airport and touched down in Amsterdam using fuel created from a mixture of Brazilian babassu nuts and coconuts, the BBC reported Sunday. Virgin Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer Richard Branson said the flight marked a "vital breakthrough" for the airline industry. "This pioneering flight will enable those of us who are serious about reducing...

LONDON - The world's first commercial flight powered by biofuel has taken off from Heathrow Airport. The goal of Sunday's Virgin Atlantic jumbo jet test flight from London to the Netherlands is to show that biofuels can produce less carbon dioxide than normal jet fuels. Before it took off, Sir Richard Branson, Virgin Atlantic's president, said the breakthrough would help Virgin Atlantic to fly planes using clean fuel sooner than expected.

UK longhaul carrier Virgin Atlantic Airways has ordered 15 Boeing 787-9 aircraft, placed options on another eight and has secured purchase rights for a further 20 jets. Deliveries of the aircraft are expected to take place from 2011. The aircraft will replace Virgin’s Airbus A340-300s. The airline has yet to make an engine selection for the 787s. It says the order, which it values at up to $8 billion, is the largest so far from a European customer for the 787. It marks a change of strategy for the airline, which famously assisted with promoting Airbus's claims that four-engined aircraft...
