(March 20, 2007)--A Dallas man with a history of robberies was executed Tuesday evening in Huntsville for murdering a convenience store owner during a 1997 holdup. The execution of Charles Anthony Nealy, whose 43rd birthday would have been Friday, was briefly delayed while the US Supreme Court considered his 11th hour appeal Tuesday evening. The high court declined to block the execution. Nealy was the ninth death row inmate put to death this year in the nation's busiest capital punishment state. VISTA, CA – The man killed by Oceanside police this week was on parole and had a history of stealing cars and using methamphetamine, according to court records. Police said Josue Garcia, 23, of Vista, was driving a stolen Chrysler PT Cruiser when a motorcycle officer tried to make a traffic stop Wednesday morning. Garcia tried to run over the officer in the parking lot of La Valle de Vista apartment complex on Taylor Street, police said, before he was fatally shot. The Oceanside officer was identified yesterday as Clint Bussey, who has been with the department for 3½ years....

(August 31, 2006)—Texas death row inmate Derrick Frazier received a lethal injection just after 6 p.m. Tuesday in Huntsville for the 1997 slaying of a South Texas woman and her son. Earlier in the day the US Supreme Court refused to halt the execution. Frazier was one of two men sent to death row for the slayings of 41-year-old Betsy Nutt and her 15-year-old son, Cody, at their home on their Refugio County ranch. (August 17, 2006)--A San Antonio man was executed just after 6 p.m. Thursday in Huntsville for the 1994 abduction, rape and fatal stabbing of a neighbor. Richard Hinojosa, 44, was condemned for the death of Terry Wright, who came upon the man burglarizing her home. Hinojosa’s lawyers said earlier in the day they had exhausted their appeals. Hinojosa denied killing Wright and contended that telling a jury of his previous manslaughter conviction turned the panel against him.
