(August 17, 2006)--A San Antonio man was executed just after 6 p.m. Thursday in Huntsville for the 1994 abduction, rape and fatal stabbing of a neighbor.

Richard Hinojosa, 44, was condemned for the death of Terry Wright, who came upon the man burglarizing her home.

Hinojosa’s lawyers said earlier in the day they had exhausted their appeals.

Hinojosa denied killing Wright and contended that telling a jury of his previous manslaughter conviction turned the panel against him.

I must admit, this would probably sway me as a juror.

Yeah, well, it's been a slow year here in Texas.

And, of course, our eventual goal is to not have anyone left on Death Row (and not because judges or the law get lenient, either).

The Death Row Express Lane is perhaps the only good thing to come from the slaying of Officer Aubrey Hawkins by the escapee Texas Seven. Half of those guys had been on Death Row a while; if we execute these freaks faster, there's less of a chance for them to escape and kill again.

It may change , someday,, we finally have hearings starting next month to review the situation and find a way to do it so the perp doesn't suffer.. I kid you not.

Here in Wisconsinstan we don't even have the death penalty. It's been outlawed since 1856.

I guarantee the perp would not suffer if we strapped a 2000 lb. bomb to 'em and set it off in a hole we nee to dig anyway. Saves on caskets too.

When I used to work in downtown Austin a few years ago, I would pass the Governor's mansion on Guadalupe street on the way home and on the day of an execution, there would be about 20 protesters.

It was my opportunity to do a drive-by-Freep.

Are we in the lead? If not, how many more scumbags do we need to execute to regain the lead? Still, 18 seems like a slow year for us. TIA.

Under Texas law, not all murders qualify for the death penalty.

one of the advantages of living in Texas is that it's too damn hot out for most sissy libs to protest anything.
