A Florida college is seeking to fire a professor whose controversial tweets — including one claiming “black privilege is real” – led to widespread calls for his termination as protests raged in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death. An investigation by the University of Central Florida determined that associate psychology professor Charles Negy created a “hostile” classroom environment and tried to deter students from filing complaints, the Orlando Sentinel reported. The probe also found that Negy didn’t report a student’s claim that she was sexually assaulted by one of his teaching assistants and gave false information during the investigation, which...

I’m an attorney representing a professor at the University of Central Florida who is being subjected by the university to what can only be called an inquisition after expressing opinions on Twitter that led to widespread calls for his firing. UCF is a public institution—an instrument of the state—and is now bringing its full power to bear against a man who dared to question the prevailing orthodoxy that has quickly descended over so many of this country’s institutions. I cannot bear witness to what the university is doing to this man without speaking out against it. If we do not...

UCF has suspended sorority Pi Beta Phi after receiving an anonymous complaint of hazing, including members forcing others to use drugs and drink alcohol until they blacked out. An anonymous person alerted the University of Central Florida on Nov. 16 about a post on the website that described a friend’s experience in Pi Beta Phi. UCF sent the sorority a letter Nov. 21 demanding it cease all activities, including business meetings, fundraisers, socials, mixers, intramural competitions and recruitment events while the university investigates the allegations. A hearing is scheduled for Dec. 5. The accusations are “of utmost concern” to...

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A few UCF players responded with tears. Others with silence. And still more with looks of satisfaction. The scene in the Knights' locker room offered a full range of emotions Tuesday after their 40-32 loss to LSU in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl that snapped a 25-game winning streak for the upstart out of the American Athletic Conference. "I'm proud of these guys for the way we came out to play with LSU," linebacker Nate Evans said. "I mean, it's LSU, a team we should never be on the field with, according to higher people." ….. "Our team...

It's only fitting that Atlanta, home to the SEC title game, is hosting the all-SEC College Football Playoff National Championship presented by AT&T. No. 4 Alabama didn't play for the SEC title this year because it didn't win the SEC West, but the Tide will have a chance to finish the season as the best team in the conference and the country when they face SEC champion and No. 3 seed Georgia at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Georgia, which will be playing roughly 70 miles from its campus in Athens, will be the first team to play a national championship game in...

The terrorist front group that coerced federal and local law enforcement agencies in the United States to change the way they conduct terrorism training is also wielding its power to control what occurs in the nation’s public schools, including large taxpayer-funded universities. It’s a distressing power grab by a wealthy and politically-connected group, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), that promotes itself as the nation’s largest Muslim advocacy organization. The truth is that CAIR is a terrorist front group with extensive links to foreign and domestic Islamists. It was founded in 1994 by three Middle Eastern extremists (Omar Ahmad, Nihad...

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A new study by the University of Central Florida's Diversity and Ethics in Sport released Thursday shows that the top leadership positions at Football Bowl Subdivision schools and conferences remain mostly white and male. [...] Study author Richard Lapchick called those numbers "unacceptable" and said part of the problem with getting more diversity throughout the system falls on the lack of penalties or sanctions for institutions that aren't more diverse.

ORLANDO, Fla. — A professor is facing a formal complaint for how he teaches students at the University of Central Florida Wednesday. The Council on American-Islamic Relations claims Jonathan Matusitz, a UCF professor, supports an anti-Muslim hate group. It said in the letter the professor is a member of Act for America, a group that is against Muslims. Matusitz told Channel 9 he's spoken to the organization before. The letter asks UCF to review the professor's teachings. A video of Matusitz was posted on YouTube.

A 911 call from a student at the University of Central Florida and a quick response by campus police may have prevented a mass murder. Campus police said Monday that 30-year-old James Oliver Seevakumaran -- who shot himself in the head as officers arrived, before any other students were hurt -- was heavily armed with two guns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a backpack filled with explosives and a plan to attack other students as they fled the seven-story dorm where he lived. Seevakumaran's roommate, who hid in a bathroom after Seevakumaran pointed a gun at him, called authorities about...

A woman in Seminole County was raped by a University of Central Florida student she met on the online-dating website, according to the Sheriff's Office. The victim, whose name and age were redacted from arresting documents released Tuesday, told deputies she met 22-year-old Aaron Floyd on the website on Thursday. The two exchanged emails and cell-phone numbers, an arrest report states. The report says Floyd asked the victim questions that were "sexual in nature," and which made her uncomfortable. However, she eventually agreed to meet Floyd at a restaurant in Sanford on Friday, deputies said. According to the report,...
