CHICAGO (AP) — Brunch dates and flag football games might be a little easier to get to this Sunday, when phones grace early-risers with an extra hour of rest before alarm clocks go off. The downside: Next week across most of the U.S., the sun will set well before many folks step foot out of the office, leaving them to run errands or take walks in utter darkness. Come Nov. 5, daylight saving time is out and standard time is in, and will last until March 10

SANTA FE — New Mexico’s two legislative chambers remain at odds over whether the state should “spring forward” or “fall back.” The Senate on Thursday voted 25-17 in favor of a bill that would allow New Mexico to remain on daylight saving time all year long, if a federal law is passed allowing the change. Earlier this week, however, the House passed a proposal to keep the state on Mountain standard time all year long. It isn’t contingent on changing federal law. Each bill will now cross over to the other chamber. Neither proposal will reach Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham...

Everyone not named Franklin D. Roosevelt hates Daylight Saving Time. The constant back and forth is confusing, especially for those who have an early Sunday morning commitment. The Standard Time Act of 1918 gave the federal government power to oversee national time zones. That power was extended with the passage of the Uniform Time Act of 1966, which allows the Department of Transportation (DOT) to set Daylight Saving Time for the entire country. Why DOT? Because "time standards are important for many modes of transportation," or something like that. Despite decades of observance, however, more and more Americans are rebelling...

Six years ago, when Tom Emswiler moved from Washington, D.C., to Massachusetts, he saw something that shook him to his core: The sun went down at 4:11 p.m. "I knew I was moving north, but I had no idea how far I was moving east, and so you can imagine my horror when in December the sun was setting" in the mid-afternoon, Emswiler told NBC News on Wednesday. He began dreaming of a better future for the Bay State. An hour into the future, to be exact. ~snip~ The upshot: If the state joins Puerto Rico and eastern Canadian provinces...

I hate these "spring forward" time changes, always have, not only is my time clock messed up, so is my dog's. I know it sounds super anal retentive, but my dog still expects to be fed at 3:00 PM, instead of now 4:00 PM.

Daylight saving time officially begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, although many people opt to set their clocks one hour ahead before going to sleep Saturday night.

States across the country are taking a dim view toward daylight saving time. And some say it's time to turn back the clock -- so to speak. Lawmakers in 10 states have proposed legislation challenging what, for many, is a twice-a-year headache, and one they just endured again earlier this month. The new bills would mostly have states pick a time ... and stay on that time. "Every time you have the spring forward or fall back, you get in the coffee shops, churches and everybody's complaining about it and all of a sudden it dawned on me it is...

Early U.S. Daylight Savings a bust in power savings Mon Apr 2, 2007 6:56PM EDT By Lisa Lee NEW YORK (Reuters) - The early onset of Daylight Savings Time in the United States this year may have been for naught. The move to turn the clocks forward by an hour on March 11 rather than the usual early April date was mandated by the U.S. government as an energy-saving effort. But other than forcing millions of drowsy American workers and school children into the dark, wintry weather three weeks early, the move appears to have had little impact on power...

Millions of Americans will lose an hour's sleep Saturday night, as daylight savings time returns. Officially clocks should be moved ahead one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, but most people will change their clocks before going to bed Saturday night. The lost hour will return October 29 when clocks fall back to standard time. Congress has passed a law changing the dates of daylight-saving time, from March 11 to November 4, but that doesn't take effect until 2007.

Senate OKs daylight-saving time Updated 12:00 a.m. Thursday, April 28 By Mike Smith/Associated Press € Indianapolis The Senate on Wednesday passed legislation that would put all of Indiana on daylight-saving time, but the revised bill must win a second vote in the House to reach the desk of its biggest backer this session - Gov. Mitch Daniels. It was possible that House vote would take place late Wednesday night, although lawmakers have until midnight Friday to end the regular session. The Senate voted 28-22 in favor of the bill, which would require the entire state to change its clocks twice...
