CHICAGO (AP) — Brunch dates and flag football games might be a little easier to get to this Sunday, when phones grace early-risers with an extra hour of rest before alarm clocks go off.
The downside: Next week across most of the U.S., the sun will set well before many folks step foot out of the office, leaving them to run errands or take walks in utter darkness. Come Nov. 5, daylight saving time is out and standard time is in, and will last until March 10

Mods pull.
Hooray for Standard Time! Now I can get up with the sun.
Wouldn’t traveling too far east or west too quickly have the same effect? Better stay in your longitude just to be safe.
The ideal would be to stop the change and when spring comes...revert to Standard time...Forever More.
I like my extra hour of sleep. Surprisingly, my dog went along with it too. But if I had my way, it would be standard time all the time.
This whole time change thing is and has been ridiculous from the start. Do the farmers rely on the clock or sun to get work done? Or neither for that fact-when the work is done, it’s done and the day is done. Why would clock time affect the farmers working hours? (I assume that is what you are referring to).
Whatever AP says I don’t listen to or read
I know.
My cat doesn’t care. She still wakes me up to feed her. Now it’s an hour earlier.
Bleh! I would rather stick to DST. Considering that where I live summer sunlight is about 15 hours. Pure solar time would have that as 4:30am to 7:30pm. Since I live on the west edge of EST (should be in CST by the longitude), that shifts to 5am-8pm. I like the 9pm DST sunset.
If you look at this historical standard times map, you can see the Eastern/Central line moving westward - more people want evening sun than morning sun.
If on average every American had one clock to change, and the changing to one minute, including taking it down and putting it back up, then with 350 million Americans that would be 350 million minutes wasted setting clocks. Roughly speaking, that’s about 600 years, or about 8 full human lives, and this waste occurs twice a year. So daylight saving time wastes about 16 lives a year, every year. This doesn’t include car accidents, suicides, and missed appointments and flights, extra stress, disrupted circadian rhythms, etc.
DST is a classic example of out-of-control government.
Keep standard time permanent, it is more in sync with our bodies as opposed to DST.
Whining about a 1 hour time change is that - whining. Get over it snow flakes.
Wait an hour... Don’t all you folks start posting here an hour later?
You’re early!
It looks like the Davos-Chamber of Commerce types want a consistent year round time namely the clock forward 365 days a year.
See it as better for business later in the day.
Peter Hitchens writes about this notion being pushed a lot and his objections see a downside to it.
For instance clock forward in wintertime means sunrise after 8am.
Anyway, the day we turn our clocks back is one of my favorite days of the year. That extra hour of sleep makes all the difference. I woke up this morning with tons of energy and ready to tackle the day.
I don't care about it getting dark an hour early. This time of year, it gets too cold to be sitting outside anyways at the end of the day. I know that come Spring, we'll get that extra hour of daylight back again - when we can better appreciate it!
“I know Standard time is for the farmers...”
Actually, Standard time, the official time set in about 1880, had nothing to do with farmers but with the railroads, etc.
Farmers have never set their chores by the clock, since livestock and crops don’t.
Daylight saving time was a byproduct of the First World War and an effort by the United States to follow the lead of several European countries who had adopted the measure to save on fuel costs during the war by adding an extra hour of sunlight to the day, according to the Library of Congress.
