The Tarrant County Sheriff is up for re-election following a contentious year filled with controversy surrounding deaths at the Tarrant County Jail. Sheriff Bill Waybourn, who first took office as a Republican in 2017, is facing a challenge from Democrat Patrick Moses, a retired law enforcement officer. Waybourn won with 53% of the vote, according to unofficial results. Since Waybourn took office, more than 60 people have died in the Tarrant County Jail, about half from natural causes, which has spurred numerous calls for Waybourn to resign.

Tarrant County leaders are looking into the county’s voting equipment after delays in election results from Tuesday’s midterm primaries. Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley made the announcement at a watch party for former Fort Worth mayor Betsy Price, one of the five Republican candidates in the running for the county judge seat. As of 10 p.m. Tuesday, the only available elections results for the race were early returns. In the early
  • Welcome to the Texas GOP’s Potemkin Village of Conservatism

    11/13/2021 9:00:00 AM PST · by TigerClaws · 20 replies
Republicans hold America’s reddest large urban constituency in Tarrant County, Texas. The locals consider its seat, Fort Worth, a “Mecca for conservatives.” If any place in America should be beyond the reach of progressivism, it is these 900 square miles of Lone Star land. And yet, a recent incident within the Keller Independent School District has revealed cracks in the red paint of Texas’ conservative Potemkin village. On Oct. 26, Kathy May, a mother of four children in the district, tweeted pictures from Gender Queer: a Memoir, a book found in the library of Timber Creek High School. The illustrated...

The 16-year-old student who planned to attack Muslims here had spent time online researching hate material and sourcing weapons. But his school friends and family had no clue of his online activities and anti-Muslim beliefs, the Internal Security Department said in a briefing last Wednesday (Jan 27). His source of inspiration was Australian white supremacist Brenton Tarrant, who killed 51 people in Christchurch mosque attacks in 2019 with weapons including several rifles. The teenager in Singapore had picked the second anniversary of the shootings in New Zealand — March 15 — to attack Muslims at two mosques here. He also...

The county received bids from Election Systems & Software, Hart InterCivic and Dominion Voting Systems, and a panel of 13 election and county workers spent months evaluating and ranking the machines, Elections Administrator Heider Garcia said. But not everyone agreed that the county made the right choice.

Tarrant County officials voted to close non-essential businesses and impose civil penalties against those who disobey emergency plan orders on Sunday night. Tarrant County Commissioners unanimously voted to close those businesses until at least April 5. That excludes businesses listed by the Department of Homeland of Security as “critical infrastructure.” The first ruled if someone breaks an emergency order in the county’s emergency management plan, they can be fined up to $1,000 or jailed for up to 180 days. This also applies to businesses that are open against emergency orders.

The suspected gunman in an attack on a mosque in Norway on Saturday was inspired by recent white extremist attacks in New Zealand and the US, online posts suggest. Police in Norway have so far only said the attack in Baerum, a town 20km from Oslo, the capital, will be investigated as a possible act of terrorism. In messages posted on the day of the attack, Philip Manshaus, a 21-year-old man who has been named by local media as the main suspect, described himself as “chosen” by “Saint [Brenton] Tarrant”, the gunman who killed 51 people at mosques in New...

The organizers of New Zealand’s largest gun show say they have canceled the event to show respect for victims of the Christchurch massacre and because of “elevated security risks.” New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern vowed to tighten gun laws after the attack. She says banning private ownership of semi-automatic rifles, which were used to devastating effect in the attack Friday on two Christchurch mosques, is an option. The Kumeu Militaria Show, near Auckland, has been held for about five years. …

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) told CNN Friday that he believed President Trump’s “rhetoric” may have played a part in the horrific shootings at two mosques in New Zealand that left 49 dead. "Words have consequences like saying we have an invasion on our border and talking about people as though they were different in some fatal way," Blumenthal said. "I think that the public discourse from the president on down is a factor in some of these actions.” "We know that at the very pinnacle of power in our own country, people are talking about 'good people on both sides,'"...

A ‘BRITISH’ gunman who is believed to have filmed himself slaughtering Muslims in a New Zealand mosque wrote a chilling manifesto before the “terrorist attack”. The white-supremacist shooter, 28, who was born in Australia, said he wanted to take revenge for the "thousands of European lives lost to terror attacks". He boasted that he chose to use firearms so he could influence politics in the US. “Finally, to create conflict between the two ideologies within the United States on the ownership of firearms in order to further the social, cultural, political and racial divide within the United states," he wrote....

Students attending a lecture at Tarrant County College were so frightened by their professor's behavior during a recent class that they had to leave the room. When TCC Adjunct Professor Daniel Mashburn walked into his Astronomy class Tuesday night, several students were alarmed by his behavior. Some thought it was a joke while others called police. Student April McLeod says her teacher got to class about 20 minutes late and turned off the lights and was wearing a ball cap, a toboggan, a scarf over his face and gloves. She says Mashburn never took any of it off even when...

A state investigation is underway over allegations of voter fraud in Tarrant County ... Concerns have arisen over mail-in ballots, which many believe open the door to “vote harvesting,” or the process of illegally filling out and returning the ballots of valid voters without their consent. Mail-in ballots are designed for eligible voters who are unable to leave their homes, are in jail or out of the country, and many argue that such balloting is critical for those who would be unable to vote otherwise. But the mail-in balloting process allows those voters to cast their votes from home without...

TARRANT, Alabama -- A woman caught shoplifting eggs in Tarrant Saturday didn't leave with handcuffs and a court date. Thanks to a Tarrant police officer, she left with food for her family. Officer William Stacy was called to the Dollar General on Pinson Valley Parkway when employees caught the woman trying to steal a dozen eggs, Tarrant Police Chief Dennis Reno said. The woman had her young children in the car. She told Officer Stacy that she was only stealing because she was trying to feed her children. Stacy talked with Dollar General, and they said they wouldn't prosecute. So...
