Tarrant County votes it can fine, jail those who disobey emergency coronavirus orders
FORT WORTH STAR TELEGRAM ^ | MARCH 22, 2020 | KALEY JOHNSON

Posted on 03/23/2020 3:53:56 AM PDT by eastexsteve

Tarrant County officials voted to close non-essential businesses and impose civil penalties against those who disobey emergency plan orders on Sunday night.

Tarrant County Commissioners unanimously voted to close those businesses until at least April 5. That excludes businesses listed by the Department of Homeland of Security as “critical infrastructure.”

The first ruled if someone breaks an emergency order in the county’s emergency management plan, they can be fined up to $1,000 or jailed for up to 180 days. This also applies to businesses that are open against emergency orders.

This is ridiculous!!!

NY and CUOMO know no bounds!!!!!

Oh wait... :)

I’m sure there won’t be Quite the number of posts on this thread as there are when it doesn’t fit the NY/CA narrative.

However, cuomo is insane when he talks about 4 to 9 months.

Unless others follow suit..

Nothing is impossible anymore

Apparenty the death rate is declining. Even Fox News can dig up stats. Who knew? Death rate dropped from 4.06% to 1.84% in 7 days, and that was 8 days ago. Could be much lower now.

Even the reality challenged Brit Hume told some truth it seems:

In the fact-challenged world of the coronavirus COVID-19, there are still actual facts out there, and Fox News analyst hit a homer with a single post on Twitter.

“As the number of cases has expanded, the mortality rate has declined. It will likely decline even further if and when those without symptoms can be diagnosed and counted,” Hume tweeted.

He included a tweet from another Twitter user that laid out the death rate in the U.S. from COVID-19.

4.06% March 8 (22 deaths of 541 cases) 3.69% March 9 (26 of 704) 3.01% March 10 (30 of 994) 2.95% March 11 (38 of 1,295) 2.52% March 12 (42 of 1,695) 2.27% March 13 (49 of 2,247) 1.93% March 14 (57 of 2,954) 1.84% March 15 (68 of 3,680)...

4% death rate now below 2%. At this rate the number dead may be below or not much above the death rate from the flu last year of 80,000.

That was my sarcasm.

I live on Staten Island which is part of NY and folks here have been going nuts about the lockdown.

But beaches are closed now In FL and now this in TX, as well as the lockdown in Dallas.

It ain’t so much a blue/red state thing anymore.

We will see this in many, many states before all is said and done.

And if states like TX and FL and others are doing it, then it will make me think this is more serious than I might be taking it.

I AGREE that blue states are quicker to act and want the power.

So if red states are doing it now...they might know things we don’t about how bad this can get

Effectively martial law. These local politicians had best tread carefully. These draconian shelter in place one size fits all ordinances may come back to bite them in their unschooled big arses. NY and LA are examples of which I refer to, all of the state of NY is not suffering from the epidemic like the city itself is. The rest of NY state is no where in the same shape as the sardines packed into the city is.

No rhyme or reason, one size fits all kind of laws doesn't make any reasonable sense for those out in the countryside. The unequal application of the law will naturally breed contempt for it and lead to anarchy and deservedly so IMO.

This is a result of the increased testing. Before, you had people dying from COVID-19, but you didn't know how many others had the disease. Now, you are starting to learn how many others have the disease without them dying first. The problem is, it's just getting started.

Actually, the governor left it up to the counties and local municipalities to decide for themselves. Tarrant County and Dallas County next door are two of Texas virus hotspots right now.

Your saying it’s just getting started is speculative and we don’t go by that.

His point of saying it is just getting started is speculative, and we don’t go by that. We go by logic and stats.

Those percentage comparisons are totally bogus. The number of cases diagnosed is expanding rapidly both from expanded testing and, presumably, continued spread.

But it takes weeks to move from infection to death. The absolute death rate is still clearly rising.

Texas Governor said yesterday, a $1,000 fine and/ or jail time. However, he also said that he would not proclaim the entire state in “shelter in place “, there are only a few counties with the infected.

Ok, great! Looks good on paper, what’s going to happen when people start dying all over the place?

Nope. As of March 23rd it has dropped aan to 1.3%. Stop CNN and MSNBC like fear peddling. You dont know the sky will fall and the stats we can go by look better and better while all you have is speculation.

Have anything besides an emotonal outburst to prove your point?

Saying the sky will fall won’t make it so.

All we have are stats and now another drop as of today shows the death rate down to 1.3%.

Or, as we have suspected for years (and decades), many that claim to be on the right are really just not as far to the left. The term RINO came from somewhere, after all.

Again, you clown, death rate “drops” at this point are due to still bad data from limited tested. Actual “rate” of eventual death for the disease in the modern world maybe something like 0.5%. But with about 3x as contagious that makes it around 15x as dangerous as the flu.

It looks hopeful that the available drugs, warming weather and the tendency of viruses to weaken over time.

But right now, in the US, it is pretty much guaranteed it will get much worse in terms of hospitalizations and deaths over the next month before it gets better.
