  • 15 Discontinued Sodas You'll Never See Again Crystal Pepsi was the butt of a LOT of jokes.

Coke Freestyle machines seem to have all of the soda flavors you could ever want. But not even the Coke Freestyle dispensers can bring back the discontinued sodas of yore. From the inventive (Coca-Cola combined with coffee, anyone?) to the truly strange (we're looking at you, bacon soda), the beverage industry has come up with some wild creations over the years. Here are a few soda flavors that have gone the way of the dinosaur. We can't say we miss them, but it's fun to reminisce about these vintage options.

Hold up, diet soda drinkers. Regular consumption of soft drinks — both sugar-sweetened and artificially sweetened — was associated with a greater risk of all causes of death, according to research published this week in JAMA Internal Medicine. Participants who drank two or more glasses of soft drinks per day had a higher risk of mortality than those who consumed less than one glass per month.

RUSH: Perhaps the greatest example of Trump derangement syndrome today and what, in a sane world, would be a profoundly embarrassing piece of journalism, which is saying a lot given everything that’s happened during the Trump administration. The Washington Post is beside itself. And if you happen to receive the Washington Post daily email blast that is supposed to tell you what’s hot and what’s interesting and what’s leading the day in Washington Post news coverage, this story is at the top of all the news out there. This story is what the Washington Post apparently is the most proud...

(CNSNews.com) - Soft drinks were the top commodity bought by food stamp recipients shopping at outlets run by a single U.S. grocery retailer. That is according to a new study released by the Food and Nutrition Service, the federal agency responsible for running the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as the food stamp program. By contrast, milk was the top commodity bought from the same retailer by customers not on food stamps. In calendar year 2011, according to the study, food stamp recipients spent approximately $357,700,000 buying soft drinks from an enterprise the study reveals only as “a...

HOUSTON, Texas – If you guzzle a lot of soft drinks, you know, carbonated colas, well, you could be paying a little more for all that sugar. And when you do, you can thank the gentle woman from Connecticut, Rosa Delauro. Rep. Delauro (D-CT) is responsible for the “Sugar Sweetened Beverages Tax Act” or just the “Sweet Act” if you prefer the lite version. She wants congress to put an extra tax on drinks that contain sugar or any other sweetener with calories. It would be just a penny per teaspoon, but that could end up adding about 15 cents...

Health organizations and U.S. nutrition experts say they are calling on fast-food restaurant chains to take sugary drinks off their children's menus. Margo G. Wootan, nutrition policy director at the Center for Science in the Public Interest, said McDonald's agreed to drop soda and sugary drinks from Happy Meal menus last year, and 100 U.S. and local health organizations along with nutritional experts said in a letter to Wendy's, Burger King and 21 other restaurant chains that they too should remove the items from their children's menus. Subway, Chipotle, Arby's and Panera already exclude sugary drinks from kids' meals. "With...

SAN JOSE -- Want a Coke at the San Jose Library? A root beer for the kids at Happy Hollow Park and Zoo? Maybe some whole milk for the little one? Forget it! That stuff makes you fat. A San Jose councilman wants the city to stop providing sugary drinks and whole milk at city properties and events to promote healthier diets. "We cannot stop the obesity epidemic," City Councilman Ash Kalra said in his proposal. "But as the city of San Jose, we can do our part by being socially responsible and accountable for the products we make available...

First, it was smoking in restaurants and bars. Then, artery-clogging trans fat in fast food joints and bakeries. Now, Boston health regulators have their crosshairs fixed on soft drinks and other sugar-sweetened beverages sold in city buildings. Concerned about the girth of employees and visitors to government agencies, Boston officials are weighing — gingerly — whether to restrict or even prohibit the sale of calorie-laden refreshments on city-owned property. The city has convened influential health, education, and housing leaders to develop a policy that aims to reduce consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages. While discussions are ongoing, Bill Walczak, head of a...

Snippets: Calling soda the new tobacco, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom will introduce legislation this fall that would charge a fee to retailers that sell sugary beverages. Newsom would need voter approval to tax individual cans of soda and sugary juice, but only needs approval from the Board of Supervisors to levy a fee on retailers. His legislation would charge grocery stores like Safeway and big-box stores, but would not affect restaurants that serve sodas. Jim Lazarus, vice president of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, said the group opposes the soda tax. "Does this mean there's a fee on...

SEATTLE — Ever wonder what the Seahawks' locker room tastes like after a big game? Apparently, Jones Soda Co. (JSDA) thinks Seattle NFL fans want to know. The company started taking online pre-orders Thursday for a five-pack of sodas with flavors it says reflect the hard work of professional football players. Clare Bowles, a spokeswoman for the Seattle-based company, said the four literally named flavors — Dirt, Sports Cream, Perspiration and Natural Field Turf — are "pretty lifelike."

The phenomenal Coca-Cola Company has always fascinated me. This hundred-year-old organization has a history of internecine corporate intrigues, shenanigans by its wealthy families and ongoing conflicts with the government. By taking a brief look at its history as well as two of the skirmishes between Coca-Cola and Washington, the first in 1906 and the second in 2000, we can see how our country has changed in the last century. The story of this multi-national corporation began in the 1880s, when the dispensation of medicine was only loosely monitored. An Atlanta druggist named John Pemberton frequently concocted potions to relieve his...
