Slurpee day is canceled — kind of. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, 7-Eleven will not be holding its annual birthday celebration and handing out free Slurpees on July 11 (7-11), but it will be offering customers a social distancing-friendly alternative. All 33 million of the convenience store chain’s loyalty app members will receive a coupon for one free medium Slurpee in their accounts, redeemable through the end of July, “allowing you the opportunity to treat yourself when it’s convenient for you, while helping us practice physical distancing in stores,” according to a press release.

Obama's 'Slurpee summit' has convenience store salivating Washington, Nov 5 : Barack Obama seems to have a thing for naming summits after drinks. The makers of those beverages couldn't be happier. The US president jumped on a reporter's suggestion Wednesday that he call an upcoming meeting with top Democratic and Republican legislative leaders a "Slurpee summit" to hash out a way forward after Tuesday's elections, in which Obama's party suffered major losses in Congress. "They're delicious drinks," Obama quipped, joking that he might serve the popular slushed ice drinks at what is likely to be a frosty meeting between leaders...
  • 7-Eleven thankful for free presidential press (Slurpees)

Global convenience store chain 7-Eleven has been getting some free advertising for its signature drink, the Slurpee, from none other than U.S. President Barack Obama. Obama has used the Slurpee -- a thick, frozen, flavoured beverage that is wildly popular with Americans -- in speeches on the campaign trail ahead of next week's mid-term elections to illustrate just how obstructionist and ornery Republicans can be. At a rally at Bowie State University in Maryland this month, Obama said that while his Democratic Party was sweating and pushing to get the U.S. economy out of a ditch, "the Republicans . ....
  • Where did Obama get the "sippin on a slurpee" comment from"?

President Obama has now accused Republicans of "sippin on a slurpee" 25 times. Where did President Obama get that phrase? He must be a fan of the band Varsity. Here is verse 1 of the the lyrics of the "Boy Meets Girl" by Drew Ryan Scott of the boy band Varsity Fanclub. Verse 1: When I Saw This Pretty Young Thing She Was Hanging With The Girls She Was Sippin A SlurpeeBrown Eyes That Caught Me Off Guard So I Walked Up To Her Friend The song can be heard here.

To hear President Obama tell it, Slurpees are the beverage of choice of obstructionist Republicans. In each of 20 political speeches over the last two months, Mr. Obama has included a riff in which he portrays GOP leaders as sipping Slurpees while hard-working Democrats struggle to pull the economy out of a ditch. "We're down there. It's hot. We were sweating. Bugs everywhere. We're down there pushing, pushing, pushing on the car. Every once in a while we'd look up and see the Republicans standing there. They're just standing there fanning themselves -- sipping on a Slurpee." The line never...

Here is one question that probably won't cross the minds of Sasha Cohen, Irina Slutskaya and the other Olympic women figure skaters today, even if they fall: Why is ice slippery? The explanation once commonly dispensed in textbooks turns out to be wrong. And slipperiness is just one of the unanswered puzzles about ice. Besides the everyday ice that you slip on, there are about a dozen other forms, some of which experts suspect exist in the hot interior of Earth or on the surface of Pluto. [snip] Ice, said Robert M. Rosenberg, an emeritus professor of chemistry at Lawrence...

Do you remember your first brainfreeze? The drink that came to be known as the Slurpee was developed in Dallas and introduced to the masses by 7-Eleven Inc. 40 years ago. 7-Eleven registered the term "brainfreeze" in 1994. • More than 6 billion Slurpees have been sold, one for every man, woman and child on Earth. • More than 13 million Slurpees are consumed every month. • Although 7-Eleven started selling frozen drinks in 1965, they weren't called Slurpees until 1967. • About 40 percent are sold in the summer months. • The all-time U.S. Slurpee champion city – Detroit....

I have read many messages which object to same-sex marriage but I am still waiting to learn what specific adverse consequences opponents of gay marriage anticipate to result from its legalization. In other words, suppose same-sex marriage becomes law during 2005. By 2010 or 2015 what specific indisputable adverse consequences to society do opponents predict to occur? With respect to those critics of same-sex marriage who refer to "God's law" and "procreation" --- do they believe that heterosexual couples who cannot have children, or who do not wish to have children, should also NOT be allowed to marry? The essence...
