My best memories of 7-11 are saving my pennies and walking up to the store and buy a packet of baseball cards. Back then Topps was the only maker of cards so it was pretty special. The hard piece of gum would leave a light film on the first card in the pack.

My nephew was a math adept and maintained a 4.0 grade point from elementary school to high school and also Dean's list 4.0 in college where he graduated as a Chem Eng!! He collected baseball cards and was a big enough dealer who would buy boxes of all the new cards from Topps and the other manufacturers.

I remember visiting him while he was in college and in the family room in the basement he had three shoe boxes of that gum! He opened certain number of the baseball card packages since rookie cards sold at a premium. When he married one of the bedrooms in his house contained his baseball cards and he finally sold them when his first child was born, (his wife insisted that a nursery was more important then a baseball card warehouse, imagine that!!!

I just hope he made a killing when he sold them.

Bought a time share in Tampa/Orlando area. Since he works at the Beulah Coal Gasification plant in North Dakota the family enjoys the month in Florida and rents it the rest of the year. His son is four and he did keep some cards as a starter set for him!!!
