Is more gun control legislation coming to Congress? The 2018 midterm elections produced a split Congress with Democrats gaining control of the House and Republicans gaining seats in the Senate. The change in House leadership will signal changes in gun control legislation in the near future. The Guardian has detailed House Democrats’ desire to pass gun control legislation in the upcoming Congress: “Ted Deutch, a Democratic congressman from Florida who represents Parkland, where a February school shooting left 17 dead, said this week that he expected House Democrats to focus on bills with more bipartisan support. Those measures included bump stock bans...

The Iowa Supreme Court ruled that the state's Medicaid program must cover sex reassignment surgery for transgender people. The court ruled Friday that the Iowa Department of Human Services discriminated against two women by denying their Medicaid claims for transition-related care. “The ruling means that many transgender Iowans will be able to obtain life-saving medical care that they were unable to get in the past," said John Knight with the American Civil Liberties Union, which represented the women. The state argued that transition-related surgeries were not covered by Medicaid because they were "cosmetic, reconstructive or plastic surgery." It specifically banned...

Let me show you the magic graph that tells you everything. It’s got all the cool stuff; it tells the future, tells the past, tells your strengths, burdens, who's gonna be rich, who's gonna be overworked, the cause of the Healthcare crisis, the cause of every major financial collapse, and yes, even gun violence. This is a population distribution map of the United States. It tells approximately how many people we have at every age range. Who cares? Why is this so important to understand gun violence? Simple answer: Because people at different ages act differently.A few examples, young adults are...

SANTA FE — A bill expanding background check requirements for New Mexico gun sales cleared a key stumbling block Thursday, as members of the Senate voted 22-20 to pass the measure after more than three hours of debate. The legislation, along with other gun bills pending at the Roundhouse, have drawn opposition from most county sheriffs statewide and prompted at least two New Mexico counties — Quay and Socorro — to adopt ordinances suggesting they would not enforce the law.

Fred Guttenberg ✔ @fred_guttenberg A new beginning in the fight for gun safety!!! For the first time in over 8 years, our House Of Representatives is holding hearings. Forget what we did not hear last night, it begins this morning. From the website Heavy.com, Jessica McBride described him as “one of the strongest voices for changes to gun laws in the wake of the mass shooting.” He’s also a committee member for Ban Assault Weapons NOW. Those are the people driving an initiative petition to amend the Florida constitution to outlaw semi-automatic rifles. The small beachhead that the gun-grabbers have...

On Wednesday, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) released a survey showing that college students in Generation Z or iGen are conflicted on free speech and seem to value tolerance and inclusion more than this important First Amendment liberty. Sixty percent of students say "promoting an inclusive environment that is welcoming to a diverse group of students" is more important than "protecting students' free speech rights, even if it means allowing hurtful or offensive speech," the FIRE/YouGov poll found. More than half of students (57 percent) either agree or strongly agree that "colleges and universities should be able...

A few dozen people, some armed with rifles, handguns and extra ammunition, gathered outside the state Capitol Saturday to protest potential gun control measures they fear could come from either newly inaugurated Gov. Tony Evers and his administration or the federal government. Attendees of the We the People rally spoke primarily of three amendments to the U.S. Constitution they believe are under threat: the Second Amendment, which guarantees the right to bear arms; the Fourth Amendment, which protects citizens against searches and seizures without due process of law; and the 14th Amendment, which awards all protections of the constitution to...

OpinionOver one million New Jersey Gun owners defy Governor Murphy's gun magazine ban & turn in demands of what some estimate is easily more than ten million now illegal standard capacity gun mags. New Jersey –-(Ammoland.com)- New Jersey's standard capacity magazine ban is now in effect making New Jersey's one million gun owners criminals in the eyes of the state. But in an act of mass definace, New Jersey residents refuse to comply. Any magazine holding more than ten rounds is now illegal in the Garden State. The standard magazine for an AR-15 holds 30 rounds. Glock 19s, which is...

Did suburban women cost the Republicans the House of Representatives? Most suburban women can be easily persuaded to vote for Democrats because they do not think seriously. Serious thinking in the political sense is concerned with where we are going as a nation, our moral values, our long-term prosperity, our security, our freedom and its inherent responsibilities. G.K. Chesterton said, “Thinking means connecting things, and stops if they cannot be connected†(Orthodoxy, 1908). Don’t get me wrong – there are many intelligent, serious conservative women in Fairfax County (not to mention the nation as a whole), but they are sadly...

For months, gun control advocates in Washington State have peddled initiative 1639, which moves to create stricter firearms laws. On Tuesday, 60 percent of Washingtonians voted in favor of ballot measure, the Seattle Times reported. Specifically, i-1639 will: • Raise the age someone can purchase a rifle to 21. • Create an "enhanced background check system similar to what is used for handguns." • Require a person to complete a firearms safety training course. • Create a common stand for secure gun storage. Those in favor of the measure believe that even further gun laws will prevent mass shootings. “My...

Fashion and beauty magazines are struggling to stay relevant these days. With young women turning to Instagram and YouTube for style tips, print magazines are becoming a dying breed. In a plaintive attempt to remain connected, fashion and beauty magazines rushed into politics to cling for dear life. But not just politics — socialism, to be exact. Some headlines from Vogue and Teen Vogue:April 11, 2018 - What “Capitalism†Is and How It Affects PeopleMay 10, 2018 - Who Is Karl Marx: Meet the Anti-Capitalist ScholarJune 25, 2018 - 28-Year-Old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Might Just Be the Future of the Democratic PartyOctober 15,...

Florida voters are still casting ballots in the race for governor, but already some liberals can’t help but ask: Could Democrat Andrew Gillum be their answer to 2020? The 39-year-old African-American mayor of Tallahassee is in a dead heat with white 40-year-old pro-Trump Republican Ron DeSantis. Gillum lit up national progressives by pitching Texas voters an unabashedly progressive platform, including....

What do you see there today? Is the suburbs trending Republican, Democratic or what? What about the suburban white women?

Political analysts have been saying for months that women will be the decisive force in November’s election in Colorado and nationally. So far, in Colorado, men have turned in more ballots than women. In Colorado, the total number of ballots filled out by men is 130,394 versus 126,005 by women, according to figures released today by the Colorado secretary of state’s office. Democrats and Republicans have turned in essentially the same number of ballots, with the Democratic total at 91,580 versus 91,190 for Republicans. Voters who aren’t affiliated with any party turned in 72,154 ballots so far. The next highest...

Donald Trump has ordered the military to be on alert over a US-bound migrant caravan as he declared a national emergency. Referring to the caravan from Honduras, the president tweeted: "Sadly, it looks like Mexico's Police and Military are unable to stop the Caravan heading to the Southern Border of the United States. "I have alerted Border patrol and Military that this is a National Emergency." He added that the US would begin "cutting off, or substantially reducing aid" to three Central American countries.

Last week there were six unique encounters between President Trump and U.S. journalists where the topic of illegal aliens and family border separations was brought up. It seemed odd at the time because the issue has not been a topic within discussion. These exchanges culminated in CBS correspondent Leslie Stahl asking the same question repeatedly during a 60 minutes interview on Sunday night. Now things become clear. There are thousands of Honduran migrants traveling north to the U.S. border timed to arrive in conjunction with the mid-term election. Obviously an engineered narrative timed by the political left and media allies....

"My name is Alyssa Milano, and I do not have equal rights under our Constitution. I have a three-year-old daughter named Bella. She does not have equal rights under the Constitution, either." This is how I began my testimony at a Congressional shadow hearing on the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) just a few months ago. At that point, I didn't think it could be possible to feel more urgency about insisting that women be protected in our government's highest legal document, the US Constitution. I was wrong. Now, as I watch Brett Kavanaugh's likely ascension to the Supreme Court, it...

Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins -- a key swing-vote whose dramatic floor speech on Friday assured Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court -- revealed on Sunday that she initially thought Kavanaugh "perhaps needed to withdraw" after she heard Christine Blasey Ford's "very compelling and painful" testimony. But then, Collins said, "When [Kavanaugh] came back with a forceful denial, the anger and anguish he showed, and then the lack of corroboration, led me back to the fundamental issues to our legal system." Both Ford and Kavanaugh testified at length in late September before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Ford alleged that...
